ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

BUCKTOWN

Located just a few miles northwest of Chicago’s Loop, Bucktown has become one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Chicago. Over the past decade, the community has rapidly expanded its acclaimed shopping and dining scene, attracting residents and tourists alike.

Originally a working class neighborhood, Bucktown reportedly was named after the many goats that were raised in the neighborhood during the 19th century. The neighborhood first gained popularity as an artist’s community, and has since evolved into a diverse neighborhood catering to a wide variety of residents.

The neighborhood is served by the Chicago Public School District, which offers a number of top-notch public schools in the area including Drummond Elementary School and Burr Elementary School. Residents also have the option to attend private schools located nearby.

Transportation around Chicago is accessible via the CTA Blue Line and various CTA bus routes. The Kennedy Expressway is also located just east of the community, providing convenient access to the city and surrounding suburbs.

As Bucktown continues to grow in popularity, Damen Avenue has emerged as one of the top retail locations in Chicago. The strip offers a mix of boutiques, consignment shops and high-end retailers such as GANT, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Club Monaco and Joe’s Jeans. A number of acclaimed eateries can also be found in Bucktown, including Piece Brewery & Pizzeria, The Bristol, and Hot Chocolate. Several community events are held throughout the year, including the annual Bucktown Arts Fest, which showcases the works of hundreds of artists, as well as poets, dancers, musicians and performers.
