Project Description
The 36,000 residents of the remote communities in the Andes mountains outside of Quito have little access to clean water. Only 12% of the families have access to potable water. The major source of water for drinking, cooking and washing is rivers and streams. Raw water is plentiful; clean water is not.
Why This Project?1) There are minimal potable water resources
2) Many use contaminated water
3) Residents have serious gastro intestinal infections
4) Schools with young children lack sources of potable water
5) Sick students lead to high rates of absence from classes and low educational performance
