This picture displays me using www.lifeprint.com to learn sign language. During this week, I
focused on “clothing” vocabulary. In this picture, I am practicing the sign
for “socks”.
By using www.lifeprint.com, this week I focused on “animal” vocabulary words. This picture shows me practicing the
sign for “bird”.
During this week, I began to use the vocabulary I had learned to create
sentences. In this picture, I am signing “What is your favorite animal?”
Today, I taught sign language to a student who was extremely
interested in the language. This picture displays me teaching the sign
for “brother” to Ashley Bridges.
In this picture, I am teaching Ashley the sign for “interesting.” Later on, I taught Ashley to use the word in a simple sentence.
When I asked Ashley what she was interested in learning to sign, she immediately said “food”. In this
picture, I am teaching Ashley the sign for “hamburger”.
This picture was taken during the time I was teaching Ashley to sign
personal statements. In this picture, I am teaching Ashley to
sign “My name is Ashley.”
Today, I went on a shopping trip to Michaels to get some ideas for a visual
display. As soon as I saw this shiny silver scrapbook, I knew I wanted to create a scrapbook to document the
lessons I gave Ashley.
When I wasn’t learning new signs or teaching sign language to Ashley, I practiced signing
conversations to my mom. Although my mom didn’t know sign language, she was
extremely supportive by simply sitting down and watching me sign to her. In this picture, I am signing “my name is Maida” to my mom.
This picture displays me having a simple conversation with my mom in sign language. In this picture, I am signing “how are you?” to my
mom. Since my mom didn’t know sign language, whenever I felt that I needed to
practice sign language with someone, I would speak and sign a question to my mom and she
would speak her reply.
Since my project facilitator was very busy with work and her family, it became quite difficult to meet up with her sometimes. Nevertheless, we
stayed in contact through social networking sites. In this picture, I am emailing my project facilitator, Andy, about some questions I had
about some signs that I had learned.
In this picture, I am emailing Andy to see if she has any suggestions about what my
visual displays can be. Since I am not very artistic, I asked Andy for some advice on
what possibilities I had for a visual display that didn’t consist of drawing or painting.
