Heartbeats from your priest Fr Eduardo
Great and wonderful things are ahead of us, and for this we should be ready at all times, avoiding complacency. For we do not know what is in store ahead of us; only God knows. This Sunday’s readings speak on this theme of readiness. We are to be ready when the Lord comes.
WORD of GOD in a NUTSHELL: In the 1st Reading from the book of Wisdom, the people recall that it was at night that the Exodus to the promised land began. They were watchful and ready when the Lord called them. These are the qualities the Lord is expecting from his disciples in the Gospel passage we read today. They, too, are ready for action, ready to meet the Lord when he knocks at their door, even in the mid-dle of the night. The Psalm is a song of confidence in God. It reflects on the concern the Lord has shown for his people over the generations. In trust and hope our soul is waiting for the Lord. The 2nd Reading from Hebrews reminds us that faith is essential. It sustained Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Sarah, who all believed in the promises made to them. It is faith which enables them to keep watching and waiting for the coming of the Lord.
CHALLENGE: This week, I may want to consider that every time I attend the Eucha-rist, I am invited to the Lord’s Supper – and that, like the Master in the Gospel pas-sage, he waits on me with love and compassion. I should do so with my life: ready with LOVE and COMPASSION.
ADDENDUM: On a personal note, I have been preparing and getting myself READY for this Sunday’s world biggest running day: CITY 2SURF. It would be fun, but I suspect it would be tough running more or less 10KM in one go. I do this one for you dear parishioners and for our church. I wish to generate funds so that we can finish our long-standing project: REPAIR of church pews.
Let’s do it! WE CAN DO IT! I will start (with my fragile knees) and join me accomplish this project. No complain. No criticism. Just pray. Get the envelopes on your seat and put bigger amount from your heart, either by cash / cheque or by EFT to St Joachim Catholic Parish BSB 062-784 Account # 3505001. Check our parish website or listen to announcement on HOW TO DONATE for this cause. I thank you from the deepest recesses of my heart ( and the fragility of my knees). God Bless You all!

Parish Mission Statement
Ecumenism in Australia, Yesterday and Today The Commission for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations in the Archdiocese of Sydney invites you to a special lecture reflecting on Pope John Paul II’s Ecumenical Encyclical, Ut Unum Sint ( That They May Be One). We will discuss the Encyclical, its call to action and ask ourselves how far have we come and how far have we still to go. Speakers: Fr Gerard Kelly, Catholic Institute of Sydney Mr Thomas Westenberg, Commission for Ecu-menical and Interfaith Relations, Catholic Archdio-cese of Sydney Location: The Peter Cosgrove Centre, Level 18, The Tenison Woods House, 8-20 Napier Street, MacKillop Campus, Australian Catholic University, North Sydney
Safeguarding Office - Archdiocese of Sydney Abuse is a crime. The appropriate people to deal with a crime are the police. If you – or anyone you know – have been abused, please contact the police. Alternative-ly, you can contact the Safeguarding and Ministerial Integrity Office at (02) 9390 5810 or [email protected]. You may also want to speak to your Parish Priest who will be able to provide support and guidance. The Archdiocese has a legal obligation to report crimes to the police .
Vocations Enquiry Day with Capuchin Friars Saturday 24 August (2-7pm) Young men (18-35) are invited to come and hear about vocations to the priesthood and conse-crated religious life. The Capuchins will host this opportunity to hear about our way of life, to pray, and have your questions answered. It’s at St Fiacre’s Parish Hall (top of the driveway at 98 Catherine Street, Leichhardt). Concludes with dinner. For those who would like, there will be the optional opportunity to then go out on the Friars’ Van – which is a Capuchin ministry to the homeless in Sydney. To register interest, contact Father Thomas: 0432 362 052 or [email protected]
NSW Abortion Bill- Contact your MP - The Reproductive Health Care Reform Bill 2019 (Bill) was tabled in NSW Parliament. If passed, it will make abortion legal up until birth in NSW, for any reason, as long as two doctors agree if the baby is more than 22 weeks’ old. There has been no community consultation on this Bill. Attempts to rush the Bill through Parliament intentionally exclude the voices of all concerned citizens, including people of faith, from the debate. We must act immediately to try and stop this Bill. Please urgently contact your NSW State MP and ask them to vote against this Bill.
