Have some faithAWARD-WINNING stand-up comedian and comedywriter Paul Kerensa is heading to a church near you.The scriptwriter on much-loved sitcoms including NotGoing Out and Miranda, will perform at St Matthew’sChurch in Cheltenham tomorrow night.The gig coincides with the release of Paul’ first book,So A Comedian Walks into a Church – a light-heartednon-fiction account of the influence of Christianity oncomedy.“As one of those rare things – a comedian and aChristian – I thought it was an unusual mix that mostweekends I’m in an unfamiliar town telling jokes onthe Saturday night, staying over and then poppinginto a local place of worship on the Sundaymorning,” Paul told The Buzz.“If you’ve never stepped in a church before, don’tworry, you won’t burn up on entrance, and we’re justout for a good laugh. If you’re a church regular, oreven from another church – or another religion –then bring some friends and come on down.”Tickets for the 8pm gig cost £7.50 and are availablefrom the church office. I think it wasSchopenhauer’s theory thatwe’re cursed by longing forthe thing in front, so we grabit and then long for where wewere before.”Kane is the ideas man ofcomedy.
