Hands on Training for Energy Conservation in Compressed Air System
(10 - 11, November 2014)IntroductionIndustrial manufacturing facilities use compressed air as an essential energy source topower pneumatic tools and equipment, for process or control applications and to meetinstrumentation needs. In Indian industries compressed air systems account for nearly 25%of industrial electrical energy demand. Compressed air system optimization offers a savingpotential of 20-25%. Matching the compressor to the system to enable best efficiency pointoperation is often ignored during the selection of compressors. The energy saving potentialin compressed air system is hidden and can be unearthed only by a detailed study includingmeasurement of flow and determination of operating efficiency.
The hands on training will serve as a valuable programme for learning the importance ofproper compressor operation and typical behaviour in application. The programme isdesigned to provide the practical knowledge and skills needed to address common concernsinvolving compressors and apply it back into your work place.
ObjectivesHands-on exercises are essential to allow the participants to have a feel of energy efficiency, gain life long experience and develop right expertise for energy efficiency projectimplementation.
Compressor Training FacilityThe compressor training facility has 2 screw compressors of Hitachi make. One compressoris on load-unload control and the other with a VFD control. Each compressor is driven by a7.5 kW motor. The compressed air system comprises of air receiver, a refrigerated air dryer, air filter and distribution system of various pipe sizes and headers. The flow measurementsare carried out with advanced vortex, magnetic and thermal flow meters. The data iscaptured through a data logger and then displayed visually in a computer for analysis andunderstanding.
CoverageThe practical energy efficiency training covers the following.
Load/unload control vs. speed control using VFD Effect of pressure reduction on power consumption
