Brief HistoryBrief History
Prior to 2003, in the State of Goa, 3 kgs of rice was
distributed to primary students under Mid Day Meal
Scheme.
• In 2003-04, Kachori, Ladoos, Chakli, Shankar Pali,
Biscuits, etc. were distributed.
• In 2005-06, items such as Bhaji Pao, Vegetable Pulao,
Shira, Pohe, Upama & Moong Bhaji Pao were served .
• Tenders were invited Taluka-wise from local Self Help
Groups to serve hot cooked food to the children of
schools from the year 2005.
• At present there are 111 Self Help Groups/Mahila Madals
and five P.T.A’s supplying Mid Day Meals in all the 12
Talukas of the State.

Supply of MealsSupply of Meals
111 Self Help Groups/Mahila Mandals and five P.T.A’s
supply meals to the schools.
Selection of MDM suppliers is done by after inviting
applications from eligible Self Help Groups, fulfilling the
following conditions:-
License from Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration.
Group registered with Registrar of Co operative Society Act
under Societies Act 1860.
Taluka wise Residence Certificate of the Self Help Group is
obtained.
Meals are supplied to children during the interval/recess
time.

F.C.I. Depot (Food grain) State Nodal Officer & Quality Control Officer of FCI. Samples are stored in the Directorate of Education. Self Help Groups are provided with the samples to cross
check the quality at the time of receiving the food grains from the civil supply godown/s.

• Internal disputes among the member/s of the Self
Help Group/Mahila Mandals.
• Non-submission of bills by the Self Help Group on
time, thereby delaying utilization of funds.
• Minor complaints from schools with respect to
quantity and quality of meal served.

• Bills of the S.H.Gs/Mahila Mandals/P.T.A’s Helpers, Trasport Conctractor & FCI are settled at state level.
• Funds are not released at District level, Block level & School level.
• Groups are reluctant to supply MDM’s if strict action like fine is imposed.
• Std V is under Upper Primary in State of Goa while entering the data in MIS web portal. (In other States Vth Std. is covered under Primary.)

•Revision of menu of MDM is under consideration of the Government.
•The procurement of Plates of uniform size for serving MDM to students of Government schools is under process.
•Selecting wheat based menu is in the process.
•More PTAs will be involved to supply MDMs. 24
• This year additional Self Help Groups/Mahila Mandals/PTA are involved. Kitchens are located close to schools. Hence hot cooked food has been supplied.
• Sheera was removed from the MDM menu as it was not preferred by majority of students.
• Many SHG’s/ Mahila Mandals are supplying Hot Cooked Meals in insulated container.
