ANNUAL REPORT OF THE PASTOR
1
To the Members and Friends of the Peak Springhill Parish:
I give thanks to God that together we have been faithful servants in the ministry at the Peak Springhill Lutheran Parish. We have been faithful in worship attendance, we have been faithful in sharing our time, talents and financial resources. Our worship attendance is high in proportion of members who regularly attend. Most churches are pleased to have 25-30% of their members attend; we have much closer to an average of 50% attending on most Sundays. Could we do better? Of course we could. Some folks actively go to new neighbors and invite them, telling them why they attend and how that impacts their lives. Those neighbors might not come to visit, but we know some who do. Both congregations in our parish are welcoming, friendly places to visit, and our folks go out of their way to greet someone who is new and not just for the first time that they visit. We have reached out to the larger community with our financial resources for World Hunger Relief and for Hurricane relief; and with our time and talent providing and serving a hot meal at the People’s Picnic at Finlay Park. We have collected food and other needed products for We Care, with our parish providing 948 pounds of food during 2018. We collected school supplies and backpacks and passed them out to the participants at our HUB VBS program, as well as hot breakfasts and lunches, mentoring, classes, projects and friendship. We provided a caring and supportive parish for Shelia Goins to complete her field hours toward her seminary degree. You as a parish have provided prayers and blessings and support for me in my fight with cancer; and you have faithfully provided the same for those in our parish who have been shut in, ill, and dying. And you didn’t stop there, but continued to provide support to the family members who have buried their loved ones.
St. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians that we are as fragile as clay pots, but that we are trusted with the glorious good news that Jesus, the only son of God has come to save us and all of God’s holy children. God’s Spirit has been poured out upon us so that we can live faithful lives and tell the story of
God’s love. Will we ever stumble or turn away from God? Yes, we will—but God’s power and desire to forgive us is more than we can ever measure, and the Lord comes to call us back. Come back to hear God’s word preached and
proclaimed. Come back to receive the promise of forgiveness, hope and
2
eternal life in the bread and wine of the Lord’s Supper. Come back to the fellowship of your brothers and sisters in Christ. It is never too late to hear again that God loves you, forgives you and has a home for you in the life to
come.
With God’s love,Pastor Beverly Aurand

We were saddened by the passing of Mrs. Frances Shealy, who leaves a legacy of Christian devotion and was a friend of many.
Unused food remaining from FACES and other Church activities are taken to Finlay Park to feed the hungry at the People’s Picnic.
Finance & StewardshipThe Finance & Stewardship Committee continued to sponsor monthly articles in the Mt. Olivet Newsletter. These articles are published to make everyone aware of God’s call to us and to encourage members and friends to utilize their time, talents, and resources to serve Christ in the Spring Hill community and beyond.
In March, the committee reviewed the financial activities for the calendar year of 2017. This review documented that Mt. Olivet’s finances were in order to support our mission of God’s work. In October, Mt. Olivet’s and Mt. Hermon’s committee chairmen met to develop a proposed budget for the parish with input from the Pastor and the Joint Treasurer. Later in the month, the committee adopted the proposed Parish Budget and held a working session to develop a recommended 2019 Budget for Mt. Olivet. The budgets were reviewed with the Congregational Council at their November meeting where they were approved for submission to the congregation. The budgets were presented and adopted at the Congregation’s Annual Meeting on November 18th.A special thank you goes out to Linda Branham, our Treasurer, for all her work in managing the day to day financial activities of both the congregation and the parish.
At Mt. Olivet we are blessed to have members who contribute services, materials, and other gifts which help keep our budget and expenses manageable. In 2019, we ask everyone to continue praying that the Holy Spirit will empower us to meet our financial obligations and expand our mission of God’s work.

Lutheran Men in Mission
The Lutheran Men’s group experienced a great year of fellowship, service, and spiritual growth. Our group normally meets on the first Monday evening of each month and shares a meal with WELCA. A business meeting with programs as scheduled follows the meal. We also enjoy quarterly meetings with other Lutheran Men’s Groups in the Heartland Conference.
At the SCLMM Convention in February, our unit was presented one of the twelve South Carolina Outstanding Unit Awards for 2017. The convention was held at Newberry College and was attended by Gerald Edwards and Robert Huff, both of whom are members of the state’s Committee of 100.
Meetings in 2018 included programs on the following topics: Our 2018 Calendar, LMIM Unit Award Process, Operation InAsMuch, and Project Reports. Joint Bible Studies with WELCA were led by Pastor Beverly Aurand in February and June and by Pastor Larry Hagerty in October. We also held planning sessions to prepare for Operation InAsMuch, Family Night, Lutheran Men’s Sunday, and Manager Scene Setup. During 2018 we participated in various projects including: Displaying the Lenten Crosses, assisting Social Ministry with Lenten Meal and Funeral Meal, cleaning a section of highway for Operation In As Much, sponsoring Relay For Life luminaries, assisting the Youth in collecting school supplies for the HUB VBS attendees, barbequing chickens for Family Night, leading service for Lutheran Men’s Sunday, cleaning of the Fellowship Building floors, and assisting in decorating the church and Christmon Tree. Special thanks to

Dan and Hazel Caudle for the restoration of the old characters and the fabrication of new ones for our manger scene. The improvements to the display on the front lawn were enjoyed by all this Christmas Season.
Officers for 2019 will be Eddie Boozer, President; Robert Huff, Vice President; Gerald Edwards, Secretary; and Jerry Derrick, Treasurer. A current revision of our 2019 Calendar is posted on the Bulletin Board in the rear of the Narthex.
We are proud of our service and are currently being considered for a 2018 South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission Outstanding Unit Award. All men of the congregation are strongly urged to join us for fellowship, learning, and outreach. In 2019 we will continue to seek ways to increase our group’s membership and expand its service!

Women of the ELCA (WELCA)
Our SymbolCross, water, and the water lily identifies the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as children of God, baptized, forgiven, and adopted into God’s family. It is a reminder of the growth, beauty, and vitality that rises out of life-
23
giving baptismal water. It is also a reminder of the mission of the church to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mathew 28:19).
The NameMt. Olivet Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America(WELCA).
Purpose StatementAs a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing, and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
One Mission, Three Mission AreasCommunity, Growth, and Action---our three mission areas are at the heart of the ministry of Women of the ELCA. These three mission areas unite us in our one mission: To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
OfferingsA Regular offering is received at each monthly meeting. A budgeted amount of the offeringIs sent to the SC Synodical Unit and the balance is used to carry on the work of our own unit.
A JOY offering is received twice a year---usually in May and November. All of this offering is sent to the SC Synodical Unit to help support specific ministries of the ELCA.
The Sunshine offering is used in our own organization to cheer hospitalized WELCA members, whether with a flower or a gift.
MembersWELCA welcomes any woman and invites all women of the church to join our group. We all work together to serve our church, community, and world. We now meet on the 1st Monday night of each month unless it falls on a holiday, at 6:00 p.m. with our business meeting followed by the meal with the Lutheran Men.

What WELCA Has Done In 2018
The theme of the 2018 SC WELCA convention was “Christ, Be our Light, “ based on the scripture John 8:12: “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” We should all want to be lights for Christ as we journey throughout our lives. In January, we began with the installation of the 2018 officers. In February, we participated in a Bible study and sponsored a canned food drive for WE CARE. WELCA hosted the World Day of Prayer Service followed by a reception. In April, we participated in Operation Inasmuch by picking up Trash along the stretch of the highway in front of the church. WELCA collected items for the SCWELCA convention project. In May,we had a JOY offering program and received the JOY offering and purchased 2 pigs and 10 chicks through the ELCA Good Gifts. Sheila Huff and Betty Jo Amick attended the SCWELCA convention at Redeemer,St. Andrews June 8-9. We collected school supplies for HUB children in July. WELCA along with Lutheran Men sponsored the Annual Family Night BBQ in August.A donation of non-perishable food items was given to Chapin WE CARE during September. The Heartland Fall Conference was held on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at St. Phillips, Newberry. The conference project was monetary donations to the Newberry Free Medical Clinic. Golden Agers were honored at Homecoming. WELCA lead the worship service on October 21. In November, the executive meeting was held to plan for 2019. The JOY offering was received and a pig, tablets for purifying water, farm tools, 10 chicks, were purchased through the ELCA Good Gifts Fund. A donation was given to the Newberry Boys Farm. WELCA prepared the meal for the Congregational Christmas luncheon on Sunday, December2. Christmas gifts were distributed to our Golden Agers. Thanks to the congregation for all your support. We give God the Glory and Praise, for without Him, we could not have accomplished everything! Ladies, of Mt. Olivet come join us. We need each of you!
