From Our Parochial Vicar
Throughout the Bible we see the image of the shep-
herd. The first shepherd mentioned was Abel; the
shepherd was often depicted as the self-sacrificing
caretaker of sheep who was dedicated to their well-
being and safety. The shepherd par excellence is the
Lord who is the Shepherd of Israel, leading his people;
no wonder Israel chants, “The Lord is my shepherd, I
shall not want.” The Israelite leaders and kings are
also called shepherds who must be good shepherds as
unfaithful shepherds were to be punished. Christ
comes as the Good Shepherd par excellence because
he knows his sheep and they know him; he is even
willing to lay down his life for his sheep. Christ’s min-
isters are to be shepherds; no wonder he entrusted his
flock to Peter, the leader of the shepherds. May the
Lord help us to love him and know him back as our
Good Shepherd.

On their 50th Wedding
Anniversary
In November, 2016 The Society of St.
Vincent de Paul established Vincent’s
Legacy, a ministry that provides gen-
tly used furniture and household
goods free to those in need. As word of this pro-
ject spread, demand for the service increased
while the number of volunteers remained stable.
Because of the support given to the St. Vincent de
Paul conference in this parish, we are asking the
parishioners to pray that a sufficient number of
new volunteers come forward so we may continue
to serve those in need in a timely and efficient
manner. Individuals need not be members of the
Society to volunteer.
There are a variety of opportunities at our Wall,
NJ facility that do not involve lifting or movement
of furniture and we do not require a firm time
commitment. If, as you are praying, the thought
that you might consider volunteering crosses your
mind, we would love to hear from you. Please let
us know of your interest by leaving a message at
609-557-SVDP (7837). We will return your call
shortly after it is received. For a list of volunteer
opportunities email [email protected].
