MOUNTAIN BIKER’S RESPONSIBILITY CODEMountain biking involves the risk of serious injury or death. Your knowledge, decisions and actions contribute to your safety and that of others.
1. STAY IN CONTROL.You are responsible for avoiding objects and people.
2. KNOW YOUR LIMITS.Ride within your ability. Start small and work your way up.
3. PROTECT YOURSELF.Use an appropriate bike, helmet and protective equipment.
4. INSPECT AND MAINTAIN YOUR EQUIPMENT.Know your components and their operation prior to riding.
5. BE LIFT SMART.Know how to load, ride and unload safely. Ask if you need help.
6. INSPECT THE TRAILS AND FEATURES.Conditions change constantly; plan and adjust your riding accordingly.
DOWNHILL BIKE PARK VS CROSS-COUNTRY RIDINGThe Granby Ranch downhill bike park is a significantly different experience from cross-country riding. The trails require constant physical and mental effort in order for all riders to maintain control.
CLOTHING: Protective clothing and equipment is highly recommended. The best protection from abrasion requires a properly fitted full-faced helmet, gloves, long pants, long sleeves, leg armor, arm armor, and solid flat-soled shoes.
EQUIPMENT: The downhill bike park trails are specifically designed for full-suspension mountain bikes. The trails are rocky, bumpy, and become much more difficult without high-quality suspension. Without full suspension, fatigue becomes a factor much sooner. The steep grades necessitate disc brakes for adequate stopping power. Cantilever brakes will increase the fatigue factor as more effort will be required to maintain control. All downhill bike park participants should ride a properly sized bike and should be able to stand over the seat with their feet flat on the ground. A bike that is too large or with a high seat post significantly increases the risk of injury.
7. OBEY SIGNS AND WARNINGS.Stay on marked trails only. Keep off closed trails and features. Ride in the direction indicated.
8. BE VISIBLE.Do not stop where you obstruct a trail, feature, landing or are not visible.
9. LOOK OUT FOR OTHERS.Look both ways and yield when entering or crossing a road or trail. When overtaking, use caution and yield to those ahead.
10. COOPERATE.If involved in or witness to an incident, identify yourself to staff.
KNOW AND FOLLOW THE CODE. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
Stop by The Grill to fuel up for the trails or cool down after a ride with our great burgers and drink specials!
