cHange in the job recruitment

“I will only hire someone to work directly for me” (Communication skill and Team work)

And “look for people who are able to analyze the value of the company”)

Change in the society

Tasks or jobs that involve critical thinking, creativity, team work and and complex communication skills

Thus, We need to change the way students learning (mathematics) in

the school

CHANGE IN THE TEACHING & LEARNING

•Change in Teaching & learning

‘Chalk & talk’ Guided reinvention

•Change in learning and assessment materials

Level EASY -> MIDDLE and DIFFICULT level

Why we need PMRI?

•Poor attitude of Indonesian students toward mathematics

•Low achievement of pupils in mathematics comparing to other countries TIMSS and PISA

•Mathematics learned as a ready-made product

•Teacher centered instruction

•Mathematics modern is left all countries

What is PMRI?

• PMRI- Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia is an adaptation of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), a Dutch approach to mathematics education (Freudenthal, 71)

• Adapted since 2001 at four LPTKs

• A movement to reform mathematics education in Indonesia

• An Innovation in mathematics education

PHILOSOPHY & CHARATERISTICS of PMRI

1) Philosophy: Math is a human activity

2) Characteristics of PMRI:

• Use of contextual problems or applications as a source & a starting point for learning.

• Use of models in bridging informal & formal math

• Intertwining among mathematics strands

• Use of interactivity or constructivism instruction

• Use of smart student’s strategies

Example of Context: Borobudur – MATH PATTERNS

Panjat Pinang – TEAM WORK

ICE BERG: The levels of MODEL concept

context level

formal level

Interactivity Student’s in Primary School

INTERACTIVITY: Student’s in Secondary School

Interactivity: Student teachers’ in LPTK

Teacher Activities in workshops

PMRI IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

Bottom-up Strategy

•Strengthening LPTK and Schools

•Capacity Building of the PMRI team

•Developing teaching materials based on classroom experience & research

•Establishing local PMRI centers (P4MRI) at each participating LPTK

Spreading of LPTKs involved

Pmri MAIN IMPLEMENTATION ACTIVITIES

• Series of PMRI Workshops

• PMRI Task forces: Research & learning materials

• Developing International master program on RME/PMRI

• Developing P4MRI network (www.p4mri.net)

• National contest on Literacy Mathematics and PISA workshop for Math (and Science) teachers

• SEA-RME: PMRI as content of QITEP, training center for ASEAN countries in Jogyakarta

Design research for improvement

•Product (innovation and creativity) and process oriented (local instructional

theory)

• Three cycles: ANALYSIS, DESIGN AND EVALUATION (Akker, 2006)

• Trendy in the educational research

• Matching with Dikti Funding
