The Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe Incorporated is truly indebted to the Late Zartoshty Brothers, our patrons and benefactors, and members of their families for their immense support. The interest of the Late Zartoshty Brothers in the welfare of the Zoroastrian Community in the United Kingdom and Europe and indeed Zoroastrian communities throughout the World was admirable. Their generosity and munificent donations have surpassed the normal duty of a Zoroastrian for Charity.

The support and benevolence of the Zartoshty Brothers and their families is exemplary in the history of our Association. The ZTFE was able to purchase and renovate the heritage listed Grade II* Zoroastrian Centre, because of their support! Mobed Mehraban formally inaugurated the Zoroastrian Centre in 2005, on the occasion of the Eight World Zoroastrian Congress, hosted by the ZTFE with the patronage of the Zartoshty Brothers and their families. Their munificent donations to the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, has been acknowledged and honoured by them with the inclusion of the names of the Zartoshty Brothers on the Donor Board displayed in the foyer – entrance of the SOAS building. It was their endowment, together with the £1 million bequest from the MHBKHF Trust Funds connected to the late Professor Emeritus Mary Boyce, which created “the Zartoshty Professorship” in Zoroastrianism in the Department of the Study of Religions, SOAS. This has ensured the continuity of the advancement of the study and understanding of Zoroastrianism at SOAS in perpetuity. The Zartoshty Brothers inspired the ZTFE to core fund “The Everlasting Flame: Zoroastrianism in History and Imagination” exhibition in 2013 at SOAS and sponsoring the exhibition catalogue dedicated to their memory.

The B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital, Mumbai was very close to the hearts of the Zartoshty Brothers. The Petit family had donated large sums of money to ameliorate the Zoroastrians of Iran in the 19th century. The Zartoshty Brothers had funded the building of a wing and also donated large sums towards the hospital. Their generosity has been the catalyst for our Association to establish, “ZTFE Friends of B. D. Parsee General Hospital”.

May the Zartoshty Brothers continue to bless us from their heavenly abode in Garothman Behesht. May the fravashis of Mobed Faridoon and Mobed Mehraban always come to our assistance whenever they are invoked! Amen.

Message from Homa Zartoshty

I am always very happy to read about the activities conducted by the ZTFE. My family and I are even more happy to note that you always remember my late father and my late uncle in whatever you do and acknowledge their memory. We send you our congratulations that you have undertaken a project to care for the elderly members of our community. You have our best wishes and support. God bless you and we remind you to always keep our Zoroastrians from Iran and from India completely united.

Homa Zartoshty

Dear ZTFE members and friends

As the oldest Asian voluntary faith based organisation in the United Kingdom, the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe (ZTFE) has celebrated an active membership since it was established in 1861. In recent years, we have raised funds for multiple ambitious projects including:

• The purchase and renovation of the Grade II* Heritage Cinema building in Harrow as our New Premises – Zoroastrian Centre, increased the ZTFE’s assets by £2.5 million. Today, the Zoroastrian Centre in Harrow is the only officially recognised Zoroastrian place of worship in the UK.

• ‘The Everlasting Flame: Zoroastrianism in History and Imagination’ exhibition, at SOAS for which the ZTFE’s initial core funding acted as a catalyst to persuade others to have a higher level of confidence to sponsor the project. The Government of India have sponsored this exhibition to be launched in New Delhi on 19th March 2016, as part of awareness of the Parsee Zoroastrian’s contributions to the nation.

• Evangelising fundraising for deserving Charities such as the B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital of Mumbai, the ‘Navsari Atash Behram & Vadi Daremeher Trust Fund’, Poor People’s Project with Zoroastrian Studies of Mumbai, amongst others.

For resident Zoroastrians of the UK, the need to focus on the growing numbers of Senior Citizens of our community in a structured and cohesive manner, especially to support the isolated elderly of the Zoroastrian community – has been widely discussed for many years. Hence prior to the ZTFE AGM on 24th November 2013, the Managing Committee and Trustees sanctioned the ZTFE’s intention to establish the first Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Home (ZSCH) in the UK, within close proximity of the Zoroastrian Centre. Counsel Emeritus Noshir J Avari was appointed Chairman of the project. The Steering Committee made up of ZTFE members, including Managing Committee and Trustees, and well-wishers had their inaugural meeting on 15th July 2015, and agreed to organise the first fundraising Gala Night on 24th October 2015.

At the time of the inaugural meeting, the ZSCH Fund stood just over £8,600. Today the fund stands around £73,000, thanks to some of the benevolent members of our community. The proceeds of the advertisements in this souvenir itself total over £5,000. However our target is to cross £100,000 by year ending 31st March 2016. I am certain that all of you will make generous donations, thus enabling us to achieve our target.

On behalf of the ZTFE, I thank the Steering Committee in organising a sell out Gala Night and all of you for your participation. Do have an enjoyable time, but don’t forget that; “Parsee thy name is Charity”!

Khshnaothra Ahurahe Mazdāo!

Zartoshty Brothers Hall, Religious and Cultural Centre of the Parsee & Irani Zoroastrian CommunityRegistered Charity No: 277185 • A Company Limited by Guarantee Registered in England No. 1403266

Dear ZTFE members and friends

Tonight is a night of fun and fundraising. The purpose of the Gala Night is essentially to raise funds for the Zoroastrian Senior Citizens Home (ZSCH) – a visionary project of the ZTFE Managing Committee.

The ZSCH concept is essentially to preserve the wellbeing of the elders of our Community. Provided that these elders are in reasonably good health, and are able to take care of themselves, they could be housed under one roof so as to enjoy their retirement years in the close proximity of other like-minded Zoroastri-ans. Loneliness in old age can be a very cruel phenomenon and the Senior Citizens Home would aim to lessen the pain of loneliness. Today the NHS spends large resources in tackling dementia, one of whose root causes is loneliness.

When chairing the inaugural meeting of ZSCH Steering Committee on 15 July 2015, the ZSCH Fund stood at a mere £8,600. Today, some three months later, the Fund stands at around £73,000. With your support and commitment to this worthy cause, tonight’s Gala event could raise yet more funds. We have, for in-stance, 4,000 books containing five raffle tickets of £1 each, for sale. The raffle will be drawn next year at the occasion of the Persian New Year – Jamshedi Navroze. There are very many attractive prizes donated by benevolent individuals. With the sale of all raffle tickets (£20,000), plus the sale of advertisements in the brochure and the profits from the sale of tickets for tonight’s Gala event, I expect that the funds would rise in excess of £100,000. This is, however, only the beginning. There is a long road yet to travel. With your financial help and support we could succeed in creating history for the betterment of our future generations.

The Steering Committee is made up of very committed and focused individuals. Most of them are profes-sionals in their own line of activity. They will come up with imaginative and clever solutions in relation to the shape and size of the Senior Citizens Home. However, and very importantly, their views can only be shaped against the background to fundraising and the total funds raised at any given time.

I therefore implore you all to enjoy tonight’s function, but not forgetting the essential Zoroastrian spirit of charity. I should like you all to please pledge your support to this project by completing the relevant form and I trust I can count on your magnanimous support.

May Ahura Mazda’s blessings be upon you all.
