The Fun City FEC chain in the Mid-dle East was created several years ago by the Landmark Group and today boats operations through-out the Gulf region.The group has recently invested extensively in the development of high end entertainment cen-tres and Zamperla has supplied many rides to the chain as part of this expansion. Among these are a number of Jump Around at-tractions, a best seller for Zam-perla and a well-known attraction around the world, as well as sever-al Happy Swings, the most recent success story in Zamperla’s exten-sive range of kiddie rides.In August 2011, the renovation

of Fun City Bawadi Mall in Al-Ain was completed and the venue re-opened to the public boasting a strong selection of Zamperla at-tractions, including two family thrill rides - a 13.5m Sky Tower and a Mini Discovery - in addition to a set of Midi Bumper Cars featuring the new Grand Turismo theme.The rides have proved extreme-ly popular with visitors and Fun City’s management reports that it is very happy with the perfor-mance of the attractions, custom-ers loving the fun, bouncing action of the Sky Tower and the equally entertaining and exciting swinging motion of the Mini Discovery.

June 2012 will see the opening of the largest FEC to be built by Middle East based Aswad – and Zamperla will be the supplier of most of the rides at the new venue.Situated in the Flamingo Mall in Jed-dah, Saudi Arabia, Adventure World (Aswad’s brand name for its FEC projects) Jeddah will fea-ture a wide range of Zamperla at-tractions, including classics such

as Mini Discovery, Magic Bikes, Lolly Swing, Crazy Surf, Jump Around and GT Bumper Cars. Additionally, a Speedy Coaster, the highly successful family coast-er that made its debut in 2010 at Coney Island’s Luna Park in the US, will also be among the rides on offer. This will be the first ex-ample of the ride to operate in an indoor location, but we are con-fident it will be just as popular inside as it has been at recently completed outdoor installations in Indonesia and the UK.

This particular Adventure World FEC is the last of five such proj-ects initially planned for develop-ment by Aswad, all of which have incorporated Zamperla rides. However, a sixth project has now been scheduled by the company for opening in August this year, in Hael, Saudi Arabia, and a number of Zamperla rides have been or-dered for this venue too.Watch out for more information on this project and the special snow theming we created for our rides at this latest location.

Middle East FEC chain brings Disk’O fever to major indoor venue.

The well established hypermarket chain Al Othaim in Saudi Arabia has once again called upon Zam-perla to supply a major attraction for one of its FEC venues.The company began develop-ing its Safori Land branded FECs within its hypermarket locations around 12 years ago, each centre ranging in size from 8,000sq.m to 12,000sq.m. Each venue also features a clear indoor height of 12m., enabling the company to in-stall a variety of major and thrill rides, creating entertainment destinations that could in fact be considered indoor amusement parks.

Having already installed several Zamperla attractions over the years, last year Al Othaim pur-chased the first Disk’O for the company’s FEC in Damman. And having enjoyed great success with this ever-popular ride the com-pany has now installed a second Disk’O, this time at its Hasa FEC.The attraction continues to prove its popularity around the world, at both indoor and outdoor loca-tions, with other recent examples of indoor installations taking place at Voronezh Star & Mlad in Russia and at the Brazilian FEC Mar A Mar. The Disk’O fever is spreading!

The last one mentioned here will be added to Fantasilandia in Chile and will be the first of the eight arm model of the attrac-tion, which has been developed to accommodate the needs of larger parks which require a bigger capacity. This model will provide a total of 32 seats, giv-ing a theoretical hourly capacity of 600 pph.But this is only the first ‘evo-lution’ of the Air Race. As our development of the ride con-tinues we have many other sur-prises in store for you over the coming months and in the lead up to the IAAPA trade show in Orlando in November. Watch this space!

success of the Zamperla’s Air Race 6, our tech-nical department is hard at work on several new ver-sions of this in-credible ride.

Having made its debut at Coney Island, New York, during the summer of 2010, the amazing Air Race ride proved to be an in-stant hit with visitors to the Luna Park, being ranked as the ven-ue’s #1 attraction.Air Race is as spectacular to watch as it is to ride and park own-ers soon began to show a lot of interest in the attraction, having

heard the great reviews it was receiving in the US.The second version of the ride opened at Aquashow

in Portugal in the summer of 2011, with the ini-tial plaudits being reconfirmed by park opera-

tion manager Juri Tietzen, who told us:

“Feel free to send your clients to us because the Air Race is a really fabulous ride. Speaking well of this ride is very easy.”

Word of the popularity and success of the first two Air Race installations has now clearly

spread and 2012 is set to be the ‘year of the Air Race’ for Zamperla, with

no less than seven more exam-ples of the ride due to open

during the year. These will be in countries throughout the world, including North Korea, China, Ukraine, In-donesia, Australia, the USA and Chile – a highly impres-sive list of openings in one year for a major ride!
