Our volunteers are in the best position to enjoy the zoo: from the inside. As a zoo Docent you will gain new skills and knowledge while you work with zoo professionals and share your discoveries with others. No experience necessary. Must be 18 years or older. From pre-school classes to week long zoo camps there’s a variety of educational opportunities for everyone to enjoy. You can celebrate a birthday, family reunion, wedding, or corporate picnic at the Abilene Zoo! Information brochures, applications, and registrations for programs are available in the zoo gift shop or online at www.abilenezoo.org All Memberships Include: • One (1) membership card. • Free admission to the zoo (during regular open hours) for one year plus some special events. • Free or discounted admission to more than 150 other zoos and aquariums. • Invitations to great members only events. • Discounts to most education programs, birthday parties and camps. • 10 percent discount in the Zoo Store. • Subscription to the Abilene Zoological Society newsletter, Zoo News. • Members only e-mail, including the monthly “Critter’s Corner”. Please stay on the walkways. Animals may appear tame but can be dangerous.

The animals are on strictly controlled diets. For their health, please do not feed any animals except the ducks at the wetlands exhibit, the fish at the lake, and the giraffes. Duck and fish food is available from vending machines at their exhibits. Tokens can be purchased at the zoo gift shop and redeemed for giraffe crackers at the giraffe exhibit.

Skateboards, bikes, rollerblades, pets, and balloons are not permitted in the zoo. The Abilene Zoo is a smoke free facility.

Notice: Some animals may not be on exhibit due to weather conditions or animal care requirements.

Located at the zoo entrance, adjacent to the Watering Hole, across from the ocelot exhibit, and at the Creepy Crawler Center.

The Watering Hole, located across from the spider monkeys, serves drinks, hot dogs and a variety of other food items.

People and items may be claimed at the zoo gift shop.

Any uniformed employee on grounds or gift shop staff can provide assistance.

T-shirts, hats and many other souvenirs can be found at the zoo gift shop.

Learn more about the animals you see and how you can help conserve wildlife and wild places during one of our keeper chats, held Memorial Day-Labor Day. Look for the daily schedule of chats at the zoo gift shop.

Available for rent at the zoo gift shop. A limited number of adult wheelchairs are available at no charge.

See the zoo aboard the Safari Express train. Purchase your train token and check the train schedule at the zoo gift shop.
