GOVERNOR'S REPORT MARCH 2019GOVERNOR'S REPORT MARCH 2019

TAKE A ZONTA JOYRIDE!

"Whether you are talking about education, career or service, you are talking about life. And life must really have joy. It's supposedto be fun." --Former First Lady Barbara Bush

Identify your "WHY?" -- in Zonta and in life.My "WHY?" is based on gratitude and my

desire to share time and resources in thanks for all the blessings Ihave received. Zonta allows me to share JOY by empowering womenthrough Zonta. I, in turn, receive even more JOY as I meet newpeople, make new friends and see the results of our efforts locallyand around the world.

Our Zonta International President Susanne von Bassewitz said itbest: "We all believe in making the world a better place byempowering women and we find JOY in doing this in a community oflike-minded people that even extends to other nationsand cultures."

Join us at your area workshopthis spring where we will workto find our personal "WHYZonta?" that we can share withothers and strengthen ourorganization for the future!

a woman friend or mentor in your life. I amsure many women were pleased andtouched by the thought. All money collectedthrough that campaign went into the RoseFund -ZIF's unrestricted funds that are usedto complete the shortfall in any of ourpromised projects this biennium. As of theend of February, we are at 133% of the$200,000 goal, putting us in good shape. This is a great fund if you want yourindividual gift to go to "greatest need."

The first year of the biennium will soon be over, and only 14 of our 37District 15 Clubs have sent in their Club contributions. That is just 37.8% asof the end of February. Presidents, PLEASE remind your treasurers to sendin your pledged amount by May 15 so they can be recorded for this year. Itwould be outstanding to be at 100% this first year. Lastly - hope to see many of you at the AreaMeetings where I will be sharing our currentZonta International Foundation projects andcan answer questions you might have. TheArea Meetings promise to be fun andinformative. In the meantime - happy spring!!

Who is Eligible?Women of any age, pursuing a technology degree or closely relatedprogram full time and who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field. Only those graduating in December 2019 or later will be eligible for thisyear's award.

Women not enrolled in a university, who are pursuing continuing education inIT or a closely related field, are also eligible to apply with certain restrictions.

These scholarships can only go to candidates that are recommendedby clubs. One way your club can provide a candidate for the District level isto designate one of the scholarships you are already giving as a Women inTechnology Scholarship. JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESSSCHOLARSHIP

Dear District 15 Zonta Clubs,

As discussed at the Fall Summit 2018 I am supplying a letter to be editedwith your own club information to submit to your local college anduniversities that have business programs. We need to get the word outabout the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship. As well, I amsupplying an exhaustive list of colleges and universities so our district candivide and conquer and get the information out. Our goal is to get morethan one application submitted.

The deadline for the application to our Governor is July 1, 2019. However, since I am the representative for the district I would like to receive thesubmissions by June 1, 2019. This gives me time to go through theapplications and decide which one can be sent forward to our Governor. So,each club can set their own individual deadlines, as long as we get them in intime.

Thank you for working on this with me and I look forward to seeing moreapplications this year.

April 2, 2019 is Equal Pay Day. Clubs are encouraged to participatein Equal Pay Day. Equal Pay Day is the date in the year by whichwomen must work to earn what men earned in the previous calendaryear. What can you do to support Equal Pay Day on April 2 at the clublevel?

Wear Red to symbolize how far women have come and how womenand minorities are still 'in the red' with their pay.

Contact your local government and encourage them to issue aproclamation that April 2 is Equal Pay Day.

Work with a local company and encourage them to recognize EqualPay Day by offering a discount, equal to the difference in paybetween women and men.

Have a guest speaker join your club who has been impacted byunequal pay.

Encourage businesses to self-audit to determine if they areunderpaying women and minorities.
