Total design and engineering capability

Weatherford is a premium completions provider and one of the world’s leading oilfield services companies. We can design and engineer total completion systems and meet all of your project requirements from detailed pre-job planning to field installation.

The modularity of ZoneSelect™ systems coupled with the industry’s largest and most complete portfolio of products allows us to configure the ideal system, zone by zone, for your well. Comprehensive design and engineering services include the following:

• Providing the optimal isolation method for each zone, with more options and customizations than anyone else.

• Specifying the optimal fracturing sleeves from the widest range of sleeves available today. Factory-set shear ring values ensure sleeves open at specified pressures and eliminates changing shear values in the field, which can adversely affect zonal stimulation.

• Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling determines pressure drops through the sleeve and maximizes frac gradients without premature opening of the sleeve.

• Designing the most efficient method to deploy and hang the completion with torque-and-drag calculations to help run the system trouble-free to bottom.

• A detailed job planning schedule will be implemented from start to finish of the installation.

Weatherford’s ZoneSelect system engineering capability has been proven with installations in fracture-stimulation completions worldwide.

Fracturing Sleeves Weatherford offers field-proven fracturing sleeves for diverting the frac treatment, as well as zonal isolation. These frac systems are highly efficient and substantially reduce the operational time normally required to stimulate multiple zones.

ZoneSelect MASS frac sliding sleeve treats in excess of 50 zones in a single job. The breakthrough MASS (multi-array stimulation system) can fracture up to ten zones, with five sleeves per zone in a single trip. The benefits are many:

• Save time and money by fracturing multiple zones in a single trip without thru-tubing intervention

• Cut costs and increase production with a greater reservoir drainage length using fewer isolation packers

• Reduce risk by dropping fewer balls in multistage fracs

• Increase production by maximizing flow area with arrayed sleeves

• Guard against sleeve erosion by eliminating fracturing through inner sleeve

• Enhance performance with more uniform frac pressure across intervals provided by port diffusers in sleeves

MASS sleeves can be cemented in place or used with packers for isolation. In the Bakken and Eagle Ford shale plays of the U.S., high temperatures and porous conditions require sleeves to be cemented in place.

ZoneSelect SingleShot and ZoneSelect MultiShift frac sliding sleeves use a continuous method of isolating below the sleeve, opening a port, fracturing, then moving to the next zone. Many benefits similar to the MASS sleeve include the fracture of multiple zones in a single trip without thru-tubing intervention.

The MultiShift sleeve is ideal in operations where it is necessary to re-enter the well for additional fracturing or zonal isolation. After initially being opened with a ball, the balls and ball seats are milled out. The sleeve can now be closed or opened with a shifting tool.

ZoneSelect Monobore Frac Sleeves Save Operator 10 to 12 Days of Installation Time Over Previous Operations

Location: Northern Germany Well type: Unconventional horizontal shale/gas Well depth: 17,000 ft (5,182 m)

Objectives• Produce multizone well with ability to isolate

and later close zones that were producing water.

• Have cost-effective system compatible with coiled tubing and able to work with a larger pipe ID.

Results•ZoneSelect monobore sleeves were chosen

for their ability to be opened and closed with a shifting tool for the life of the well.

• Seven sleeves were installed in a single trip with coiled tubing in just 6 days, compared to 16 to 18 days using a standard operation.

Value to Client• All objectives were met, providing significant

time and costs savings.

Tactical Technology™ in Action:

ZoneSelect monobore frac sliding sleeve is typically used during cement isolation. Weatherford shifting tools selectively open and then close the sleeve after fracturing the zone. The process is repeated until all zones are completed. This sleeve stimulates many more zones than a ball-seat system and reduces operating time in multizone completions.

ZoneSelect toe sleeve is located at the bottom of ZoneSelect completions. The sleeve is sheared open when tubing pressure is applied and exposes the frac ports.

Fraxsis® annulus swellable packer. High-performance frac isolation for ZoneSelect completions. Many features and benefits include the following:

• Bonded, swellable elastomers activated through natural wellbore fluids to provide resealing capability for the life of the well.

• Short, slim design reduces chances of becoming stuck while providing a higher pressure differential to enhance performance.

• Shorter element design expedites fracturing to save valuable time.

• Innovative element backup system enables higher pressure differentials.

• Water-swell, oil-swell, or exclusive hybrid elastomer available.

Fraxsis packers are available for a wide variety of hole sizes and can be custom-designed to suit your particular application.

GENISIS® annulus swellable packer provides a one-trip, self-setting isolation system designed to activate and seal through the natural contact of in-situ wellbore fluids for life-of-well reseal capability. Other benefits include no moving parts to facilitate deployment and reduce well construction costs while providing the versatility to integrate with most well-tubular configurations and thread connections.

Zonal Isolation Zonal isolation during fracture-stimulation completions is the key to ensuring fracturing fluid gets to the target and protects the areas around it. The ZoneSelect™ fracturing completion system offers multiple isolation options—from mechanical and swellable packers to composite plugs and cement—to ensure the most effective solution for any hole-gauge condition.

ARES hydraulic openhole packer is a two-stage mechanical-sealing model design for multizonal isolation. A separate deployment interlock feature provides increased run-in clearance and reduced operational risk in tight-hole and high-dogleg intervals. The extra-long packing element increases sealing capability yet requires lower packoff force to reduce stress on the formation.

CERES hydraulic openhole packer is a high differential pressure mechanical-sealing model design for multizonal isolation. A separate deployment interlock feature provides increased run-in clearance and reduced operational risk in tight-hole and high-dogleg intervals. The extra-long packing element increases sealing capability yet requires lower packoff force to reduce stress on the formation.

ComboFrac™ openhole packer combines the instant pack-off capabilities of a mechanical element with the pressure support of a long-length swellable element—this saves rig time by allowing earlier application of pressure across the packer with an effective seal over irregular openhole sections.

FracGuard® composite plug is run on wireline into highly deviated or horizontal wells where e-coil or standard coiled tubing would typically be used. This greatly accelerates operations, reduces rig time and eliminates the need for expensive wireline tractors. Jet ports wash away debris ahead of the plug and so you can run past sand bridges and debris in horizontal sections. Perforating guns conveyed above the plug make single-trip plugging and perforating possible.

Liner-Top IsolationMultizone openhole completions require tieback to the casing to provide well integrity. Weatherford’s high-pressure liner-top packers provide a reliable, high-integrity seal that isolates the annulus between the liner OD and the ID of the parent-casing. Our complete line of liner-top packers can support exceptional loads and provide simultaneous rotation, reciprocation and circulation capabilities.

Liner Hanger Portfolio

UltraPak ZS packer is specifically engineered for multizone openhole completions. It is ideally suited for wells completed in a single trip that will be fracture-stimulated after landing the completion. In addition, this hydraulically set packer is capable of handling large differential pressures. The UltraPak ZS includes an anti-preset device with components that are rotationally locked, enabling rotation into the horizontal sections, saving valuable rig time.

NTD liner-top packer is made up on a continuous casing mandrel without welded joints. The NTD packer’s large ID, dual-direction full-circle slips, low setting force and a proven element system enable it to be used in cemented and uncemented applications and set either mechanically or hydraulically. For applications that require using the client’s existing tubulars, the NTD liner-top packer is an excellent option.

WFX-Style BlackCat packer is a heavy-duty, retrievable sealbore packer with torque-through capabilities equal to or greater than common tubing connections. High-tensile-strength components allow long lengths of production liner to be installed and bi-directional slips located below the element prevent debris from interfering with retrieval. The WFX-Style BlackCat packer is ideal for applications where high torque may be required to get the completion to bottom, or where retrieval of the packer is contemplated.
