Extra, Extra!: We have copies of the Concordia Publishing House “Good
News Gazette” Spring 2016 issue on the table in the Narthex if you would
like one. Please help yourself. It’s sort of a newspaper, sort of a catalog, sort
of a flyer. It features only their favorite books that speak to real-life, regular
church people about the gifts God has for them such as books for babies, kids,
teens, men, women, devotionals, coloring books, biographies, and, of course,
Bibles. And some other things they couldn’t fit into that list. It will be
helpful, insightful, fun, funny, sometimes sad, and meaningful Bible-based
resources that will answer your questions and enrich your faith. The Gazette
also offers extra savings on sale prices. But these exclusive offers are only
available through the promo code, which you will find in the Gazette.
LUTHERAN WITNESS, the official publication of the LC-MS, is available
to members. Cost for an individual subscription is $22.01. Please consider
reimbursing Zion. Place your offering in an envelope marked Lutheran
Witness Sub. with your envelope number. We thank those who have
reimbursed Zion. If you are not receiving the Lutheran Witness and would
like to, please notify the church office.

STAMPS FOR MISSIONS: LWML is collecting stamps for missions. We
are collecting any cancelled domestic or foreign stamps. When trimming the
stamps, leave one quarter inch around the stamp. Please place the stamps in
the Stamps for Missions box in the Narthex.
LUTHERAN HOUR BROADCAST: The cost of broadcasting the
“Lutheran Hour” on KHBT has increased from $20 to $31.50. The cost has
not changed for many years. Recognizing that this is a significant increase
the Board For Evangelism will contribute $5 per radio broadcast with an
additional $1.50 being provided from a second source. Beginning in January
the cost of sponsoring a broadcast increased to $25.00 for our members. We
thank those who have supported this wonderful ministry and pray that, despite
the cost increase you will continue to support it in the future as we continue
not only to bring Christ to the nations but “Christ to Humboldt.”

This is a final invitation for the June 7-10, 2016 bus trip to the Creation
Museum. The Creation Museum is just south of Cincinnati, OH. It takes a
day to get there. The trip will be on a Windstar bus, which has a restroom.
We will spend two days at the Creation Museum. The hours of the museum
are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. You will be given a plan of how to make the best use of
your time while in the museum. On Wednesday evening we will go to an
open air mall and on Thursday evening we will have the option to go to the
Cincinnati Reds/St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. Those tickets are $12 and
are right behind home plate. There are still seats available on this bus trip. If
you are interested in this trip, give us a call at 319-352-5435 and we can give
you prices, pick up points and other details. It is a trip you won’t regret
taking. The Creation Museum is based on Genesis 1-11, the basis of our
Christian faith. It truly brings the Bible to life.
“Let us stand firm for the rights of all people, especially for the most
vulnerable, defenseless of them all, the unborn children … The Church has
confessed from the beginning that each life is created by God, that human life
is the supreme gift of the Creator. Human life is not given unconditionally
but is given under the condition that we will be responsible for preserving it.”
Abbot Tryphon, Vashon Island, Washington. A “Life Quote” from
Lutherans For Life – www.lutheransforlife.org.
BUILDING HEALTHY FAMILIES: “The earth is the Lord’s and all that
is in it…,” proclaims Psalm 24. Many will celebrate Earth Day on Friday.
We ca celebrate, too, knowing that God has graciously given us this earth to
live in and have dominion over, but that it is not ours. It is His. This week,
talk with your children about ways to live and act that show respect and care
for all that God has so marvelously made for our use. I so doing, honor not he
creation, but the Creator. Lutheran Family Service of Iowa (800)622-7285
