SUMMER CONVENTION 2015

Welcome to our 2015 Summer Zest event in Sitges, Spain. This year we are excited to be hosting the event in the wonderful location of Institute of Performing Arts Barcelona (IAB) which is located in Sitges.  We will be welcoming some new and innovative presenters plus some familiar faces to this MK Pilates event.

As always, I see these events as not only an opportunity to get some new ideas and information, but a time for you to take off your instructors “hats” and become our clients for the weekend and have a great physical and mental experience.

We are once again very excited to be sponsored by Bon Pilates of Spain, who will be bringing their wonderful Spanish produced equipment for the event and we will have the Drama Room set up as a Pilates Equipment Studio where you can see our template for a successful Pilates Studio.  They will be setting up 4 full studio circuits for us and all will be available for pre-convention purchase at discounted prices and reasonably priced shipping will also be available.

We will also be joined and sponsored by Mattools from Italy (Mattools.it) with their newly launched equipment.

The amazing venue has a theatre which we will be using for short theoretical workshops presented by a variety of clinical and Pilates professionals.  The theatre is also where we will be having the opening ceremony.

I do hope you can join us with some familiar and new friends to MK Pilates for what we know will be a great weekend together.

We all look forward to seeing you there.

Michael King

3.15-415 History of Pilates The collective memories of everything related to Joseph Pilates, in conjunction with historical records and research, is our Pilates history. But history is composed of as much opinion as fact. It is not always what actually happened but who had the strongest or loudest voice and what was written down. In this presentation we will try to understand Joseph Pilates better through a collection of documented and undocumented constructed research. What was it like in Germany at the time of Joe’s birth and childhood? What and who were the influences in his life? Who were the ones that kept his method going after Joe’s and Clara’s death? How did they come in contact with Joe and how did they influence the method as we know it today? Our Pilates history is not fixed. Research continues to find new information and our understanding of what we now call “truths” will change. In essence what we are all doing right now will affect the Pilates history of the future.
