SERVICE INFORMATIONWhile servicing, use an isolation transformer for protection from AC line shock.After the original service problem has been corrected, make a check of thefollowing:

FIRE AND SHOCK HAZARD1. Be sure that all components are positioned to avoid a possibility of adjacent

component shorts. This is especially important on items transported to andfrom the repair shop.

2. Verify that all protective devices such as insulators, barriers, covers, shields,strain reliefs, power supply cords, and other hardware have been reinstalledper the original design. Be sure that the safety purpose of the polarized lineplug has not been defeated.

3. Soldering must be inspected to discover possible cold solder joints, soldersplashes, or sharp solder points. Be certain to remove all loose foreign particles.

4. Check for physical evidence of damage or deterioration to parts andcomponents, for frayed leads or damaged insulation (including the AC cord),and replace if necessary.

5. No lead or component should touch a receiving tube or a resistor rated at 1watt or more. Lead tension around protruding metal surfaces must be avoided.

6. After reassembly of the set, always perform an AC leakage test on allexposed metallic parts of the cabinet (the channel selector knobs, antennaterminals, handle and screws) to be sure that set is safe to operate withoutdanger of electrical shock. DO NOT USE A LINE ISOLATIONTRANSFORMER DURING THIS TEST. Use an AC voltmeter having 5000ohms per volt or more sensitivity in the following manner: Connect a 1500ohm, 10 watt resistor, paralleled by a .15 mfd 150V AC type capacitorbetween a known good earth ground water pipe, conduit, etc.) and theexposed metallic parts, one at a time.Measure the AC voltage across the combination of 1500 ohm resistor and.15 mfd capacitor. Reverse the AC plug by using a non-polarized adaptorand repeat AC voltage measurements for each exposed metallic part.Voltage measured must not exceed 0.75 volts RMS. This corresponds to 0.5milliamp AC. Any value exceeding this limit constitutes a potential shockhazard and must be corrected immediately.

TIPS ON PROPER INSTALLATION1. Never install any receiver in a closed-in recess, cubbyhole, or closely fitting

shelf space over, or close to, a heat duct, or in the path of heated air flow.2. Avoid conditions of high humidity such as: outdoor patio installations where

dew is a factor, near steam radiators where steam leakage is a factor, etc.3. Avoid placement where draperies may obstruct venting. The customer

should also avoid the use of decorative scarves or other coverings that mightobstruct ventilation.

4. Wall- and shelf-mounted installations using a commercial mounting kit mustfollow the factory-approved mounting instructions. A product mounted to ashelf or platform must retain its original feet (or the equivalent thickness inspacers) to provide adequate air flow across the bottom. Bolts or screwsused for fasteners must not touch any parts or wiring. Perform leakage testson customized installations.

5. Caution customers against mounting a product on a sloping shelf or in a tiltedposition, unless the receiver is properly secured.

6. A product on a roll-about cart should be stable in its mounting to the cart.Caution the customer on the hazards of trying to roll a cart with small castersacross thresholds or deep pile carpets.

7. Caution customers against using a cart or stand that has not been listed byUnderwriters Laboratories, Inc. for use with its specific model of televisionreceiver or generically approved for use with TVs of the same or larger screensize.

8. Caution customers against using extension cords. Explain that a forest ofextensions, sprouting from a single outlet, can lead to disastrousconsequences to home and family.

Code (Hexa) Function Note

1. Application ObjectThese instructions are applied to all of the PDP monitor, RF-03GB.

2. Notes(1) Because this is not a hot chassis, it is not necessary to use

an isolation transformer. However, the use of isolationtransformer will help protect test instrument.

(2) Adjustment must be done in the correct order.(3) The adjustment must be performed in the circumstance of

25±5°C of temperature and 65±10% of relative humidity ifthere is no specific designation.

(4) The input voltage of the receiver must keep 100~240V,50/60Hz during adjustment.

(5) The receiver must be operated for about 15 minutes priorto the adjustment.

1) After receiving 100% white pattern (06CH), the receivermust be operate prior to adjustment. (Or white conditionin HEAT-RUN mode)

2) Enter into HEAT-RUN mode - Press the POWER ON KEY on R/C for adjustment.- OSD display HEAT-RUN WHITE and screen display

100% full WHITE PATTERN.

[ Set is activated HEAT-RUN without signal generator inthis mode.

[ Single color pattern of HEAT-RUN mode uses to checkPANEL. (RED/BLUE/GREEN)

[Caution] If you turn on a still screen more than 20 minutes(Especially Digital pattern(13 CH), Cross HatchPattern), a afterimage may be occur in the black levelpart of the screen.

3. RGB Auto Cut-Off & MIN Bias MAX Bias Adjustment

(1) Input Full White (255 Gray) signal which generated fromStandard Equipment into RGB1 Input part.

(2) Press POWER ON KEY on the servic R/C for adjustment and selectAuto Cut-Off.

(3) Press Vol. + key and operate TO SET.(4) Original Full White screen will be seen about 3~5

seconds later. And if there is a display of OK OSD, then theAuto Cut-off, MIN Bias and MAX Bias adjustment will becompleted.

(5) After adjustment, press Y key to save adjustment andcome out of exit the adjustment mode.

O You can check whether circuit adjustment is operated well ornot, as below.(1) Display RGB1 to the Main picture, CVBS to the Sub

picture in the TWIN PICTURE. (2) To check the MIN-Bias, input Full Black (0 gray) signal into

CVBS and RGB1 input port at the same time from the PatternGenerator.

(3) To check the MAX-Bias, input Full White (255 gray) signalinto CVBS and RGB1 input port at the same time from thePattern Generator.

(4) Compare Black Level with White Level by eye. And ifthere is no Level difference, the adjustment is completedwell.

O Data value, which adjusted in the board, is valid until the VSCBoard is dissued and must be protected. For the protection ofdata, Micom does not permit any more adjustment aftercompletion.

O If the price which is adjusted does unavoidably and the casemust become the re-adjustment the method which it doesagain with lower part is same.

- After pressing the InStart Key on the Remote Control ofadjustment, the InStop Key on the Remote Control ofadjustment it confirms that the adjustment mode OSDfloats from the condition which presses the MENU buttonon the Local Key and when adjustment li it presses,becomes the Power off and it becomes initially anger. Andafter the Power on it re-is adjusted again.

Each PCB Assy must be checked by Check JIG Set beforeassembly. (Especially, be careful Power PCB Assy which cancause fatal Damage to PDP Module.)

(1) Va Adjustment1) Connect + terminal of D.M.M to Va pin of P805 and

connect – terminal to GND pin of P805.2) After turning the RV601, voltage of D.M.M adjustment as

same as Va voltage which is on the label of the PCB Right/Top.(Deviation : ±0.5V)

(2) Vs adjustment1) Connect + terminal of D.M.M to Vs pin of P805 and connect

– terminal to GND pin of P805.

6. White Balance Adjustment

6-3. White Balance Adjustment O Operate the Zero-calibration of the CA-100, then stick sensor

to PDP module surface when you make adjustment.O For manual adjustment, it is also possible by the following

sequence.

(1) Select WHITE PATTERN of HEAT RUN mode by pressingPOWER ON KEY on service remote control thenoperate HEAT RUN more than 15 minute.

(2) Supply 216Gray Level, 50% size length and breadth signal toRGB input. (Refer to Fig 2)

(3) W/B adjustment must be adjusted only High Light and thensave the adjustment value with Y Key.

(4) To adjust High Light, stick sensor to 216 Gray Level (or 105-115 Cd/m2) Pattern, press ADJ Key on R/C for adjustmentand press T, U on R/C in adjustment mode to select R-L or G-L, press VOL +, - Key and adjust it until color coordinationbecomes as below.X: 0.275±0.003, Y: 0.280±0.003Color temperature: 11,500°K±500°K

(5) Exit adjustment mode using Y Key.

- To avoid picture noise (interference), leave an adequate distance between the VCR and Monitor- Use the ISM Method feature to avoid having a fixed image remain on the screen for a long period of time. Typically a frozen still

picture from a VCR. If the 4:3 picture format is used; the fixed image may remain visible on the screen.

How to connect1. Connect the provided BNC-RCA adapter to the monitor’s VIDEO

INPUT.2. Connect the audio and video cables from the VCR's output jacks to

the monitor input jacks, as shown in the figure. When connecting the monitor to VCR, match the jack colors (Video= yellow, Audio Left = white, and Audio Right = red).

Mono VCR: Connect the video output cable from the VCR to theVIDEO input on the monitor.S-VIDEO VCR: Connect the S-Video output cable from the VCR tothe S-VIDEO input on the monitor. (Note that S-Video offers higherquality).

How to use1. Insert a video tape into the VCR and press PLAY on the VCR.

Installation

How to connect1. To get the best picture quality, adjust the PC

graphics card to a 1024x768, 60Hz. Resolutionsover UXGA cannot be displayed.

2. Use the monitor’s RGB INPUT or DVI (DigitalVisual Interface) INPUT port for video connections,depending on your PC connector. If the graphic card on the PC does not output ana-log and digital RGB simultaneously, connect onlyone of either RGB INPUT or DVI INPUT to displaythe PC on the monitor.If the graphic card on the PC does output analogand digital RGB simultaneously, set the monitor toeither RGB or DVI; (the other mode is set to Plugand Play automatically by the monitor.)

3. Then, make the corresponding audio connections.If using a sound card, adjust the PC sound asrequired.

How to use1. Turn on the PC and the monitor.2. Turn on the display by pressing the POWER button on the monitor's remote control.3. Use the INPUT SELECT button on the remote control to select RGB or DVI.4. Check the image on your monitor. There may be noise associated with the resolution, vertical pattern, contrast or

brightness in PC mode. If noise is present, change the PC mode to another resolution, change the refresh rate toanother rate or adjust the brightness and contrast on the menu until the picture is clear. If the refresh rate of the PCgraphic card can not be changed, change the PC graphic card or consult the manufacturer of the PC graphic card.

NOTES: • Depending on the graphics card, DOS mode may not work if you use a DVI-I cable. • Avoid keeping a fixed image on the monitor's screen for a long period of time. The fixed image may become

permanently imprinted on the screen. Use the Orbiter screen saver when possible.• The synchronization input form for Horizontal and Vertical frequencies is separate.

14. Outdoor Antenna GroundingIf an outside antenna or cable system is connected to theproduct, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded soas to provide some protection against voltage surges andbuilt-up static charges. Article 810 of the National ElectricalCode (U.S.A.), ANSI/ NFPA 70 provides information withregard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting struc-ture, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna dischargeunit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-dis-charge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, andrequirements for the grounding electrode.

15. Lightning For added protection for this product (receiver) during a light-ning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for longperiods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnectthe antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to theproduct due to lightning and power-line surges.

16. Power LinesAn outside antenna system should not be located in thevicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light orpower circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines orcircuits. What is a Plasma Display Panel (PDP)?If voltage is applied to gas within glass panels, ultraviolet rays are produced and fused with a fluorescent substance. At thatinstant, light is emitted. A Plasma Display is a next generation flat Display using this phenomenon.

The PDP Manufacturing Process: Why minute colored dots may be present on the PDP screenThe PDP (Plasma Display Panel) which is the display device of this product is composed of 0.9 to 2.2 million cells. A few celldefects will normally occur in the PDP manufacturing process. Several minute colored dots visible on the screen should be accept-able. This also occurs in other PDP manufacturers' products and the tiny dots appearing does not mean that this PDP is defective.Thus a few cell defects are not sufficient cause for the PDP to be exchanged or returned. Our production technology is designedto minimize cell defects during the manufacture and operation of this product.

Cooling Fan NoiseIn the same way that a fan is used in a PC computer to keep the CPU (Central Processing Unit) cool, the PDP is equipped withcooling fans to cool the Monitor and improve its reliability. Therefore, a certain level of noise could occur while the fans are operat-ing and cooling the PDP.The fan noise doesn't have any negative effect on the PDP's efficiency or reliability. The noise from these fans is normal during theoperation of this product. We hope you understand that a certain level of noise from the cooling fans is acceptable and is not suffi-cient cause for the PDP to be exchanged or returned.

- To avoid picture noise (interference), leave an adequate distance between the VCR and Monitor- Use the ISM Method feature to avoid having a fixed image remain on the screen for a long period of time. Typically a frozen still

picture from a VCR. If the 4:3 picture format is used; the fixed image may remain visible on the screen.


INPUT.2. Connect the audio and video cables from the VCR's output jacks to

the monitor input jacks, as shown in the figure. When connecting the monitor to VCR, match the jack colors (Video= yellow, Audio Left = white, and Audio Right = red).

Installation

How to connect1. To get the best picture quality, adjust the PC

graphics card to a 1024x768, 60Hz. Resolutionsover UXGA cannot be displayed.

2. Use the monitor’s RGB INPUT or DVI (DigitalVisual Interface) INPUT port for video connections,depending on your PC connector. If the graphic card on the PC does not output ana-log and digital RGB simultaneously, connect onlyone of either RGB INPUT or DVI INPUT to displaythe PC on the monitor.If the graphic card on the PC does output analogand digital RGB simultaneously, set the monitor toeither RGB or DVI; (the other mode is set to Plugand Play automatically by the monitor.)

3. Then, make the corresponding audio connections.If using a sound card, adjust the PC sound asrequired.

How to use1. Turn on the PC and the monitor.2. Turn on the display by pressing the POWER button on the monitor's remote control.3. Use the INPUT SELECT button on the remote control to select RGB or DVI.4. Check the image on your monitor. There may be noise associated with the resolution, vertical pattern, contrast or

brightness in PC mode. If noise is present, change the PC mode to another resolution, change the refresh rate toanother rate or adjust the brightness and contrast on the menu until the picture is clear. If the refresh rate of the PCgraphic card can not be changed, change the PC graphic card or consult the manufacturer of the PC graphic card.

NOTES: • Depending on the graphics card, DOS mode may not work if you use a DVI-I cable. • Avoid keeping a fixed image on the monitor's screen for a long period of time. The fixed image may become

permanently imprinted on the screen. Use the Orbiter screen saver when possible.• The synchronization input form for Horizontal and Vertical frequencies is separate.

• OrbiterOrbiter may help prevent ghost images. However, it is best not to allow any fixed image to remain on the screen. To avoida permanent image on the screen, the image will move every 1 minutes: Right → Right → Downside → Downside → Left→ Left → Upside → Upside.

• InversionInversion will automatically invert the plasma display panel color every 30 minutes.

1. Press the ARC button repeatedly to select the desired picture format. You can also adjust ARC in the SCREEN

menu.

• 4:3- Choose 4:3 when you want to view a picture with an original 4:3 aspect ratio, with black bars appearing at both

the left and right sides.

• 16:9- Choose 16:9 when you want to adjust the picture horizontally, in a linear proportion to fill the entire screen.

• Horizon- Choose Horizon when you want to adjust the picture in a non-linear proportion, that is, more enlarged at both

sides, to create a spectacular view.

• Zoom- Choose Zoom when you want to view the picture without any alteration. However, the top and bottom portions

of the picture will be cropped.

No output from one ofthe speakers

• Adjust Balance in the AUDIO menu. (Refer to p.17)

Unusual sound frominside the monitor

• A change in ambient humidity or temperature may result in an unusual noisewhen the plasma display is turned on or off and does not indicate a fault withthe monitor.

No picture &No sound

• Check whether the Monitor is turned on.

• Power cord inserted into wall outlet?

• Test the wall power outlet, plug other product’s power cord into the wall outletwhere the Monitor’s power cord was plugged in.

No or Poor coloror Poor picture

• Select Color in the VIDEO menu and press the VOLUME (G) button. (Refer to p.16)

• Keep a sufficient distance between the Monitor and the VCR.

• Activate any function to restore the brightness of the picture.

(If still picture is on the screen for more than 5 minutes, the screen gets dark.)

The remote control doesn’t work

• Check to see if there is any object between the Plasma Display and theremote control causing obstruction.

• Are batteries installed with correct polarity (+ to +, - to -)? (Refer to p.8)

1. Here’s a great way to keep the dust off your screen for a while. Wet a soft cloth in a mixture of lukewarm water anda little fabric softener or dish washing detergent. Wring the cloth until it’s almost dry, and then use it to wipe thescreen.

2. Make sure the excess water is off the screen, and then let it air-dry before you turn on your Monitor.

To remove dirt or dust, wipe the cabinet with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.Please be sure not to use a wet cloth.

If you expect to leave your Monitor dormant for a long time (such as a vacation), it’s a good idea tounplug the power cord to protect against possible damage from lightning or power surges.

- Early malfunctions can be prevented. Careful and regular cleaning can extend the amount of time you will have yournew Monitor. Be sure to turn the power off and unplug the power cord before you begin any cleaning.
