  • Uvodno slovo

    Potovane kolegice i kolege,

    prije svega, elim vas najsrdanije pozdraviti i zahvaliti vam se na sudjelovanju u programu 2. studentskog kongresa neuroznanostineurI 2012. Pod motom edukacija & iskustvo, gotovo dvije stotine sudionika zajedno e s pozvanim predavaima stei nove spoznaje i znanja iz podruja neuroznanosti, usvojiti nove vjetine na intrigantnim radionicama, a imat e priliku (neki i po prvi puta!) prikazati rezultate vlastitih istraivanja. Trideset odabranih usmenih i poster prezentacija iz raskone neuroznanstvenetranslacijske medicine, neu-rologije, psihijatrije ili psihologije, razotkrit e bar poneku tajnu ljudskog mozga. Kongres e ujedno biti i prigoda da se intenzivno druimo, uspostavimo brojne kontakte, nova poznanstva i dugoronu meusveuilinu suradnju.

    Nakon uspjeno realiziranog 1. studentskog kongresa neuroznanosti u travnju 2011. godine, pripremili smo za vas i nekoliko, nadamo se, ugodnih izmjena u odnosu na prologodinji. Od ove godine Kongres je poprimio meunarodni karakter, njegovo je trajanje produeno na tri dana te emo posjetiti i Psihijatrijsku bolnicu Rab. Posebnost NeuRi 2012 je i prvo studentsko plenarno predavanje koje emo imati priliku posluati nakon sveanog otvorenja. Nadamo se da e NeuRi postati po mnogoemu jedinstveni studentski kongres u iroj regiji, ali i svojevrsni brand, promotor rijekog Sveuilita.

    Honored colleagues,

    First of all I would like to warmly welcome you and thank you for participating in the 2nd Student Congress of NeuroscienceneurI 2012.

    Under the motto Education & Experience, almost two-hundred participants will encounter new discoveries and gain new knowledge with the help of esteemed lecturers. Participants will develop new skills in our intriguing workshops, as well as (some for the first time!) present the results of their own research. Thirty selected oral and poster presentations about some of the many aspects of neuro-sciencetranslational medicine, neurology, psychiatry and psychology, will give us a glimpse into the secrets of the human brain. The congress will also be an opportunity for us to socialize, establish new contacts and acquaintances, and enable long-term inter-university cooperation.

    After the success of the 1st Student Congress of Neuroscience in April of 2011, we have prepared some new, hopefully positive, alterations in comparison to last year. This year the congress has taken on international participation and has been extended to last over three days. We will also visit Rab Psychiatric Hospital. A novelty of NeuRi 2012 is the first student plenary lecture which we will have the pleasure of hearing after the Opening Ceremony. We hope that NeuRi will become a unique student congress in the wider region, but also a brand to promote the University of Rijeka.

    Neurokirurko lijeenje intrakranijalnih aneurizmi

    Intrakranijalne aneurizme lokalna su proirenja modanih arterija, uzrokovane struk-turalnim promjenama arterijske stijenke i hemodinamskim imbenicima. Degenerativne promjene tunike interne udruene sa kongenitalnim defektom tunike medije i utjecajem hemodinamskih sila uvjetuju nastanak i razvoj aneurizmatske tvorbe. S obzirom na lo-kalizaciju, aneurizme dijelimo na aneurizme prednje (83%) i stranje cirkulacije (17%). Oko 2030% bolesnika ima multiple aneurizme. Ruptura cerebralne aneurizme najei je uzrok spontanog duljeg ili kraeg subarahnoidalnog krvarenja (75-80%) zbog ega dolazi do akutnih promjena intrakranijalnog tlaka, smanjenja modane perfuzije i poremeaja energetskog metabolizma mozga. Ishodi lijeenja su bitno loiji u bolesnika s aneurizmama stranje cirkulacije zbog relativne nedostupnosti i blizine modanog de-bla. Uestalost subarahnoidalnog krvarenja je 10-15/100,000 stanovnika. Obdukcijski nalazi ukazuju da 5% populacije ima jednu ili vie aneurizmi. 10-15% bolesnika umire prije nego stigne do lijenika, 10% umire unutar prvih par dana, a smrtnost bolesnika sa svim oblicima Sah-a iznosi do 45%. Vea je incidencija u starijoj ivotnoj dobi, iznad 70 godina i u ena. Klinika slika koja se razvija kao posljedica krvarenja obiljeena je naglom pojavom intenzivne glavobolje, vrtoglavicom, muninom i povraanjem (simp-tomi povienog intrakranijalnog tlaka). Stanje svijesti moe oscilirati od somnolencije do duboke kome. Kod bolesnika moe biti vrlo izraen nemir i konfuzija, te njihova klinika slika moe nalikovati psihotinoj uz moguu pojavu konvulzija. Neposredno nakon krva-renja dolazi i do podraaja mekih modanih ovojnica, to se oituje koenjem vrata, glavoboljom, muninom i povraanjem, a mogua je i pojava fonofobije i fotofobije. Dijagnostike metode izbora su kompjutorizirana tomografija (Ct) i cerebralna angio-grafija kao zlatni standard u dokazivanju aneurizmatskog proirenja.Aneurizme moemo lijeiti endovaskularnim ili kirurkim tehnikama. Endovaskular-nom tehnikom izaziva se tromboza aneurizmatskog proirenja, dok se neurokirurkom tehnikom aneurizmatsko proirenje iskljuuje iz cirkulacije. imbenici koji govore u prilog endovaskularnome lijeenju su: dob starija od 75 godina, loija klinika slika, irina vrata manja od 5 mm, odnos fundus - vrat 2, kirurki nepristupane aneurizme. Suprotno tomu, imbenici koji pak govore u prilog kirurkome lijeenju aneurizme su: mlaa ivotna dob, aneurizma srednje modane arterije, gigantske aneurizme promjera veeg od 20 mm i male promjera manjeg od 2 mm, nerupturirane aneurizme koje imaju kompresivni efekt na kranijalne ivce, aneurizme irokog vrata i one s rezidualnim pun-jenjem nakon endovaskularnog zahvata. Kirurki pristup ovisi o lokalizaciji aneurizme.

    Neurosurgical Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms

    Intracranial aneurysms are local dilatations of cerebral arteries, caused by structural changes in the arterial wall and hemodynamic factors. Degenerative changes of tunica interna joined with congenital defect of tunica media and the influence of hemodynamic forces are causes of genesis and development of an aneurysm. Considering the localization, aneurysms are divided into those of the anterior (83%) and posterior (17%) circulation. About 20-30% of patients have multiple aneurysms. The rupture of cerebral aneurysm is the most common cause of spontaneous, longer or shorter, subarachnoidal hemorrhage (75-80%) because of which comes to acute changes in intracranial pressure, decrease in brain perfusion and disorders in energy brain metabolism. The results of treatment are significantly unfavorable in patients with posterior circulation aneurysms due to its relative unavailability and proximity of the brain stem. The incidence of subarachnoidal hemor-rhage is 10-15/100,000 inhabitants. The autopsy results show that 5% of the population has one or more aneurysms. 10-15% of patients die before they reach medical help, 10% die within a couple of days and patient mortality with all types of Sah is under 45%. The incidence is higher in older population, above 70 years, and in women. Clinical features that evolve next to the hemorrhage are characterized by sudden severe headache, vertigo, nausea and vomiting (symptoms of intracranial pressure increase). Consciousness can vary from somnolence to deep coma. Patients can be very restless and confused and their clini-cal state can look like psychosis with possible development of convulsions. Early after hem-orrhage, stimulation of meninges develops which is presented by neck stiffness, headache, nausea, vomiting and possibly phonophobia and fotophobia. Diagnostic methods include computed tomography (Ct) and cerebral angiography as a gold standard in aneurismatic enlargement verification.In treating aneurysms endovascular or surgical techniques can be used. Endovascular techniques are based on thrombosis of aneurismatic enlargement and with neurosurgical techniques aneurysms are disconnected from the circulation. Factors in favor of endovas-cular treatment are: patients older than 75 years, bad clinical state, aneurysm neck smaller than 5 mm in diameter, fundus - neck ratio 2, surgically inaccessible aneurysms. Opposite to endovascular criteria, factors in favor of surgical treatment include younger age, aneu-rysms of the middle cerebral artery, gigantic aneurysms with diameter wider than 20 mm and smaller ones with diameter less than 2 mm, unruptured aneurysms with compressing effect on cranial nerves, wide neck aneurysms and those with residual filling after endovas-cular procedure. Surgical approach depends on aneurysm localization.

    The Power of the Internet in Neuroeconomics

    Neuroeconomics is a young scientific discipline that combines economics, psychology and neuroscience. Through it we can explain the background of decision-making, risk behav-ior and consumer behavior. Neuroeconomics has a big role in motivating employees and developing human capital. Neuromarketing is, for the consumers, the nearest branch of neuroeconomics. Marketers use it with subliminal messages, with the method of handling a variety of colors and designs of products and through the manipulation of emotional reac-tions. Through rapid infiltration of social networks in everyday life, Internet has become a major part of our lives. Companies try to use social media marketing as an easy opportunity to grow and strengthen the brand. The classic marketing is increasingly being replaced by neuromarketing which is familiar with the operation of certain parts of the human brain and how to cause emotional investment of the consumers.

    Personalizirani pristup u psihijatrijiCircumstances of Reality

    Razvoj farmakogenomike obeava nova rjeenja personalizirane medicine u psihijatriji s ranom dijagnostikom, prilagoenim terapijskim dozama, predvidivim odgovorima i re-duciranim nepovoljnim nuspojavama. Perspektive su obeavajue, meutim sve nove tehnike se suoavaju s puno znanstvenih, etikih, pravnih i drutvenih izazova koje treba prevladati da bi se znanstvena otkria mogla odgovorno primjenjivati. Podruje neuroznanosti svoj napredak duguje prouavanju odgovora pojedinanih stanica na podraaje te prepoznavanju distinktivnih obiljeja staninog odgovora koja se uoavaju nakon mnogih ponavljanja istog podraaja. Iako su znanstvena nastojanja usmjerena ka otkrivanju genomskih biomarkera u psihijatriji, ime bi se otkrile bioloki relevantne individualne karakteristike i poveala mogunost predikcije odgovora na tretman, veina istraivanja personalizirane medicine u psihijatriji koja su upotrebljavala samo molekularna mjerenja nisu uspjela ponoviti i potvrditi ve dobivene rezultate. No to nije iznenaujue kada se u obzir uzme injenica da 80% od 25,000 gena u ovjeka imaju stanoviti utjecaj na mozak. Revolucionarne genomske tehnike su potvrdile razlike ge-nomskih markera unutar genoma kao i njihovih polimorfizama. Smatra se da u ljudskom genomu postoji priblino 10 milijuna polimorfizama, stoga je mogua nedosljednost u odgovoru na primjenu pojedinih lijekova. Postoje i prijedlozi za individualno genetsko testiranje kako bi se poboljala terapija, djelotvornost i sigurnost lijeka. Smatra se da su molekularni putevi kroz mozak puno sloeniji nego oni kroz, primjerice, kardiovasku-larni sustav i kancerogeno tkivo. Zato dijagnostika i lijeenje psihikih poremeaja zahti-jevaju puno kompleksnija istraivanja nego kod, primjerice, malignih ili pak kardiovasku-larnih bolesti.Danas se paradigma razvoja psihijatrije ogleda u promjeni njezina statusa od pionira personalizirane medicine do redukcije na uniformne farmakopsihijatrijske intervencije. Vie je razloga za tu injenicu, od onih sa strane bolesnika, lijenika ili pak drutva u cjelini. U izlaganju e se razmatrati problematika suvremene psihijatrije u kontekstu neuroznanstvenih spoznaja, ali i ukupnog zdravstvenog i socijalnog statusa oboljelog te aktualne drutvene zbilje. Da li neke bolesti sa, primjerice, znaajnim vaskularnim riziko-faktorima imaju za posljedicu poremeaj funkcije mozga i kognicije ili je mogue da postoji i obrnuti odnos?Etiko je pitanje jesu li nove bolesti koje se pojavljuju samo norme i otkloni od ponaanja koji ovise o osobnosti i okolinskim imbenicima ili se radi o stvarnoj dijagnozi koju treba farmakoterapijski rijeiti. S tim u svezi, ini se da dijagnoze i terapijske preferencije gov-ore vie o prolom vremenu, odnosno vremenu u kojem su postavljene, nego o stvarnom i sveobuhvatnom psihosocijalnom realitetu bolesnika. Stoga, statini stavovi trebaju biti zamijenjeni ljeidbenim u kontekstu vremena i potreba bolesnika. U izlaganju e se nas-tojati praktinim primjerima prikazati slojevitost personaliziranog pristupa u psihijatriji kao i integrativni model rehabilitacije u Psihijatrijskoj bolnici Rab.

    Personalized Approach in Psychiatry-Circumstances of Reality

    Development of pharmacogenomics promises new solutions to personalized medicine in psychiatry by early diagnostics, adapted therapy dosages, predictable responses and re-duced occurrence of unwanted side effects. The future looks promising; however, all new techniques face many scientific, ethical, legal, and social challenges which need to be overcome if the scientific discoveries are to be used responsibly. The field of neuroscience owes its progress to studies of single cells responses to a certain stimulus and the distinc-tive features of cell response which become visible after calculating the average of many repetitions of the same stimulus. Although scientific research aims toward the discovery of genomic biomarkers in psychiatry which would reveal biologically relevant individual characteristics and improve the possibility of prediction of response to treatment, most of the personalized medicine studies in psychiatry which used only molecular measures were not able to repeat and confirm the previous results. This is not surprising since 80% of human 25,000 genes affect the brain in a certain degree. Revolutionary genomic tech-niques discovered variants of genetic markers within the genome. It is believed that there are about 10 million polymorphisms in the human genome. This explains the possibility of inconsistency in the response to a specific medication. Individualized genetic testing is one of the suggested ideas because this may significantly improve the effects and safety of phar-macological treatment. However, this type of diagnostics and treatment of mental illnesses will possibly require much more complex research than in e.g. malignant or cardiovascular diseases because molecular paths through the brain are much more complex than those through cardiovascular system or cancer tissue.Today the paradigm of the development of psychiatry is reflected in the transition of its sta-tus from pioneer of personalized medicine to reduction to uniform psychopharmacotherapy interventions. There are many reasons for this, coming from patients, doctors or the society as a whole. In this lecture we shall discuss modern psychiatry in the context of neuroscien-tific knowledge, but also from the perspective of health and social status of the patient and the current social reality. For example, do some diseases with considerable vascular risk factors cause disruption in brain functioning and cognition, and is there a reverse process?The ethical question isare the new diseases just norms and variations of behavior which depend on the personality and environmental factors, or is it an actual diagnosis which should be dealt with using pharmacotherapy? Diagnosis and therapy preferences speak more of times passed, i.e. the times they were created in rather than about a real and com-prehensive psychosocial reality of the patient. Therefore, the unvarying opinions should be replaced by curative ones in the context of time and the patients needs. The lecture shall try to demonstrate, through examples from practice, the stratification of personalized ap-proach in psychiatry as well as the integrative model of rehabilitation in the Rab Psychiatric Hospital.

    Tajne neurofeedbacka

    Neurofeedback moemo ukratko definirati kao metodu praenja elektrinih valova moz-ga i uenja njihove samoregulacije u funkciji eljene promjene u ponaanju.Mozak se trenira da pobolja vlastito funkcioniranje pomou povratne informacije (feedback), a sve to putem pristupanog raunalnog suelja.Radi se o metodi koja se u svijetu primjenjuje ve tridesetak godina, posebice u tretmanu poremeaja panje sa ili bez hiperaktivnosti (aDhD, aDD) kod djece i odraslih, raznih potekoa uenja, disharmoninog razvoja i ostalih smetnji ponaanja.U Hrvatskoj je novijeg datuma ali se polako uvodi i kod nas. Njegova je uinkovitost dokazana u mnotvu istraivanja, posebice u odnosu na aDhD. Neurofeedback se takoer primjenjuje u irokom rasponu poremeaja raspoloenja, depresije, stresa ali i za poboljanje koncentracije, panje, ope razine funkcioniranja na poslu, u koli, u sportu i u svakodnevnom ivotu. U ovom predavanju bit e prikazan kratki povijesni razvoj neurofeedbacka i rezultati istraivanja, pretpostavke tretmana, razliiti protokoli i poremeaji ponaanja kod kojih moe pomoi, osnovne metode rada te trenutnu situaciju na tom polju.

    The Secrets of Neurofeedback

    Neurofeedback can be briefly defined as a method of monitoring electrical brain waves and learning of their self-regulation in function of the desired change in behavior.The brain is trained to improve its own functioning through feedback, all accessible via a computer interface.It is a method that has been used worldwide for thirty years, particularly in the treatment of attention disorders with or without hyperactivity (aDhD, aDD) in children and adults, a va-riety of learning disabilities, disharmonic development and other behavioral disturbances.It has recently begun to be introduced in Croatia. Its effectiveness is proven in many stud-ies, particularly in relation to aDhD. Neurofeedback is also used in a wide range of mood disorders, depression, and stress and to improve concentration, attention, general level of functioning at work, at school, in sports and in everyday life.This lecture presents a brief historical development of neurofeedback and results of re-search, treatment requirements, different protocols and behavioral disorders in which it can be used to help, basic methods of work and the current situation in this field.

    Psihodinamsko razumijevanje opsesivno-kompulzivnog poremeaja linosti

    Opsesivno-kompulzivni poremeaj linosti (oKPl) razlikuje se od opsesivno-kompul-zivnog poremeaja po tome to je ego-sintonian, a njegove karakteristike rijetko uz-rokuju stres kod pacijenata. Mnoge karakteristike oKPl-a, poput tvrdoglavosti i urednosti, se veu uz analnu fazu psihoseksualnog razvoja. Pacijenti oboljeli od oKPl-a imaju kanjavajui superego koji primorava ego na koritenje mehanizama obrane poput izolacije afekta, intelektual-izacije, reaktivne formacije, projekcijeda bi se zatitio. Takav superego moe izazvati nesigurnost. Promatrajui obiteljsku dinamiku primjeujemo da su ovakvi pacijenti u mladosti imali roditelje koji ih nisu dovoljno potivali i voljeli (ili su pacijenti to mislili). Osobine linosti pacijenata oboljelih od oKPl-a esto mogu oboljelim pomoi u njiho-vom profesionalnom ivotu, ali takoer uzrokovati i velike probleme u njihovim intimnim odnosima.

    Psychodynamic Understanding of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder

    Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (oCPD) differs from obsessive-compulsive dis-order in a way that it is ego-syntonic and its treats rarely cause stress in patients. Many characteristics of oCPD, like obstinacy or orderliness, are characteristic to the anal phase of psychosexual development. Patients suffering from oCPD have a punitive super-ego which forces ego to use defense mechanisms like isolation of affect, intellectualization, reaction formation, displacement to protect itself. This kind of superego can also cause self-doubt. In family dynamics it is seen that in their childhood these patients were not valued or loved by their parents (or at least the patients thought so). Personality characteristics of patients with oCPD can often help them in their professional life, but also cause a great deal of problems in their intimate relationships.

    Opsesivno-kompulzivni poremeaj kao modus vivendi

    Opsesivno-kompulzivni poremeaj je poremeaj koji po suvremenim klasifikacijama spada u grupu anksioznih poremeaja (neuroza), a generiki je povezan sa fobinom neurozom. Opsessio je rije latinskog porijekla i znai obuzetost neim, dok se compul-sio, takoer latinska rije, odnosi na primoravanje, to jest prinudu da se uradi neto. Os-obe sa opsesivno-kompulzivnim karakterom imaju izraene opsesivne misli i tendenciju da izvre odreene kompulzivne radnje koje imaju status imperativa, pri emu im svrha nije rjeavanje konkretnih problema. Osobe sa ovakvim tipom neuroze svjesne su da im prisile nisu nametnute sa strane, ve da potiu iz njihove osobne linosti. Neizvoenje radnji dovodi do anksioznosti i esto je praeno depresijom, dok realizacija uzrokuje privremenu redukciju anksioznosti, ali se potreba za prisilnim radnjama ubrzo ponovo javlja. Najee su to prebrojavanje neega, pranje ruku, provjeravanje brave, ponavl-janje odreenih rijei, preskakanje ahtova i slino.Opsesivno-kompulzivni poremeaj moe se lijeiti psihoterapijom kao i odgovarajuim lijekovima. to se psihoterapije tie, jedan od najeih mehanizama je opetovano kontrolirano induciranje situacije koje koreliraju sa opsesivno-kompulzivnim reakcija-ma i da se zatim sprijei uobiajena reakcija. Oporavak moe biti dug i spor, ali znatno unapreuje kvalitetu ivota.Istraivanje provedeno na studentima pokazalo je da veliki broj studenata ima neki od oblika opsesivno-kompulzivnih poremeaja, koje su predominantno subjektivno ocije-nili kao vrlo slabo do slabo izraene, ne postoje spolne razlike u manifestaciji, kao i da su se kod pojedinih osoba odreeni oblici ovakvog ponaanja sukcesivno izmjenjivali. Takoer, kao etioloki agens prisutna je i komponenta praznovjerja.

    Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder as a modus vivendi

    Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a disorder that, according to modern classifications, is among the anxiety disorders (neuroses), and generically associated with phobic neurosis. Opsessio is a word of Latin origin that means becoming obsessed with something, while compulsion, also a Latin word, refers to the forcing, that is, the compulsion to do some-thing. Individuals with obsessive-compulsive personality have strong obsessive thoughts and a tendency to perform certain actions which have the status of imperatives, where their purpose is not to solve specific problems. People with this type of neurosis are aware that they are not imposed by force from the outside, but that it comes out of their own personal-ity. Non-performance of actions leads to anxiety, and is often accompanied by depression, while the realization induces a temporary reduction in anxiety, but the need for coercive acts recurs quickly. Most often these are counting of something, hand washing, checking locks, repetition of certain words, skipping the shafts etc.Obsessive-compulsive disorder can be treated with psychotherapy and with appropriate medication. As far as psychotherapy is concerned, one of the most common mechanism is the repetitive control of induced situations that are correlated with obsessive-compulsive

    reactions and then preventing a common reaction. Recovery can be long and slow, but it significantly improves the quality of life.Research conducted on the students showed that many students have some form of obses-sive-compulsive disorder, which is predominantly subjectively rated as poor to very poorly expressed, there are no gender differences in manifestation, and that there are individuals with certain specific forms of this behavior that successively changed. Also, as an etiologi-cal agent, there is a component of superstition.

    Depresija i anksioznost kao posljedica ishemijskog modanog udara

    Cilj Ispitati uestalost i stupanj depresije i anksioznosti kod pacijenata nakon ishemijskog cerebrovaskularnog udara.iSPitaNiCi i metoDeAnalizirano je 36 pacijenata, prosjene starosne dobi 67.28.3 godine,s jednakom zastupljenou oba spola. Za procjenu stanja depresije i anksioznosti koritene su Zungove skale za samoocjenjivanje.Rezultati i DiSKuSijaProsjena vrijednost na skali za depresiju unutar 48 sati bila je 47.218.6, a 15. dan 42.99.2. U 17 oboljelih depresija je bila prisutna 48 sati nakon udara (47.2%). 15. dan od obolijevanja je 9 pacijenata (25%) bilo depresivno. Prosjena vrijednost anksioznosti je na prvom mjerenju bila 43.98.8, a petnaestog dana 41.87.7. U 11 oboljelih (30.5%) anksioznost je bila prisutna prilikom prve, a u 8 pacijenata (22.2%) prilikom druge eval-uacije. zaKljuaKDepresija i anksioznost su stalni pratioci modanog udara, s veom uestalou i teim oblikom klinikog ispoljavanja u periodu od 48 sati nakon udara.

    Depression and Anxiety as a Consequence of Ischemic Stroke

    aimTo investigate frequency and level of depression and anxiety in patients after stroke.SuBjeCtS aND methoDS36 patients were analyzed, with equal number of females and males. Their average age was 67.28.3 (41-83) years. Twenty-question self-assessment Zungs scale was used for depres-sion and anxiety level determination.ReSultS aND DiSCuSSioNAverage self-assessment depression score within 48 hours from ischemic stroke was 47.218.6 and on the 15th day 42.99.2. In 17 patients (47.2%) depression was found dur-ing the first surveying and in 9 patients (25%) during second surveying. Average anxiety score within 48 hours from ischemic stroke was 43.98.8, and on the 15th day 41.87.7. In 11 patients (30.5%) anxiety was found during first surveying and in 8 patients (22.2%) during second surveying.CoNCluSioNDepression and anxiety are important psychological disorders in acute phase of ischemic stroke, more frequent and with more severe clinical manifestation within the period of 48 hours after stroke.

    Koje stresne dogaaje najee doivljavaju adolescenti?

    Adolescencija je razdoblje odrastanja, prijelaz iz djetinjstva u svijet odraslih. Vri-jeme adolescencije obuhvaa razdoblje od 11. do 22. godine ivota, a uobiajeno se razlikuju rana, srednja i kasna adolescencija. Vaan zadatak adolescencije je posti-zanje neovisnosti i samostalnosti, to adolescenti postiu stalnim ispitivanjem svo-ga identiteta i vrijednosti. U toj potrazi za vlastitim ja eksperimentiraju sa razliitim ulogama, razvijaju intelektualne i socijalne vjetine i ire vlastiti svijet interesa. Ad-olescencija za neke osobe nije lagana ni jednostavna i postoje razliiti dogaaji koji taj prijelaz u svijet odraslih uvelike oteavaju. Kako bih saznala koji su to dogaaji, provela sam anonimnu anketu na studentima 2. godine Medicinskog fakulteta u Ri-jeci, o emu, kao i o tome kakve posljedice mogu biti, govori moje izlaganje.

    What are the most stresfull Events experienced by Adolescents?

    Adolescence is a period of growing up, the transition from the world of childhood to adult-hood. Adolescence include period from 11th to 22nd year of life and usually we distinguish early, middle and late adolescence. Important task of adolescence is to achieve indepen-dence and autonomy, as adolescents are achieved by examining their identity and values. In this search for identity they are experimenting with different roles, developing intellectual and social skills and expanding their own world. Adolescence for some people is not easy and simple and they are different things which are making this transition more complicated. In intend to find out which are those things, I made anonymous questionnaire with students of 2nd year of School of Medicine in Rijeka.

    Poremeaji itanja i pisanja te njihov utjecaj na psihosocijalni razvoj djece i adolescenata

    Razvoj govora i njegovih poremeaja treba promatrati s nekoliko aspekata. Prije sve-ga, neuroznanstvenog, lingvistikog, psiholokog, logopedskog ali i odgojno obra-zovnog. Zbog ega je govor tako vaan za razvoj djeteta?Polaskom u kolu djete govorom i ponaanjem stvara socijalne kontakte koji odreuju njegovo mjesto i pripadnost grupi. Kako je djete prije polaska u kolu ovladalo govo-rom od njega se sada oekuje da ovlada i pisanim jezikom. Cilj kole je teno itanje s razumjevanjem te pravilno i smisleno pisanje. itanje i pisanje sloeni su psihofiziki procesi tijekom kojih se u naem organizmu ujedinjuje djelovanje razliitih sustava (vid, sluh, pamenje, panja, izgovor ili pisanje). U knjizi Exceptional Child (Hallman, D; kauffman; J. M) iz 1994. poremeaji uenja okarakterizirani su kao neuroloki poremeaji koji utjeu na jednu ili vie psiholokih procesa ukljuenih u razumjevan-je i koritenje govornog ili pisanog jezika. Ukoliko se takvi poremeaji ne otkriju na vrijeme, utjeu na psiholoki razvoj djeteta. Takvo djete nije svjesno svojih po-tencijala, razvija destruktivno ili samodestruktivno ponaanje, postaje agresivno a ponekad i delikventno i ovisno. Zbog toga su govor i uenje bitne odrednice razvoja djeteta u djetinjstvu i adoles-cenciji. Pravilnom suradnjom lijenika specijalista, psihologa, logopeda i uitelja takvi poremeaji mogu se sprijeiti i pravilno ukloniti.

    Reading and Writing Disorders and their Impact on the Psychosocial Development of Children and Adolescents

    The development of speech and its disorders should be considered from several aspects. First of all, neuroscientific, linguistic, psychological, speech pathology and also educational. Why is speech so important for the development of a child?With its starting school, with speech and behavior the child is creating social contacts which define its place and belonging to the group. As the child mastered the speech before going to school, it is now expected of it to master written language. The aim of the schooling process is to have a fluent reading with understanding and correct and meaningful writ-ing. Reading and writing are complex psycho-physical processes during which are in our organism united actions of different systems ( sight, hearing, memory, attention, speech and writing). In the book Exceptional Child (Hallman, D; Kauffman, J. M) published in 1994. disorders in learning were characterized as neurological disorders that effect one or more psychological processes which are included in understanding and using spoken or written language. If those processes are not discovered on time they have an effect on psychologi-cal development of the child. Child so formed is not conscience of its potentials, and de-velops destructive or auto destructive behavior, becomes aggressive and sometimes even delinquent and dependent. Because of those reasons speech and learning are important determinants of child de-velopment in childhood and adolescence. With a proper co-operation of specialists, psy-chologists, speech therapists and teachers such disorders can be prevented and properly removed.

    Neurolingvistika znakovnog jezika

    Glavnina aktualnog znanja o jezinom procesiranju i modanim strukturama koje u njemu sudjeluju proizlazi primarno iz istraivanja provedenim na ujuim ispitanici-ma, iako u posljednjih nekoliko desetljea postoji sve vie studija koje ukljuuju i gov-ornike vizualnospacijalnih jezika. Neurolingvistika istraivanja potvruju dominant-nu ulogu lijeve hemisfere kod obiju skupina ispitanika [Neville & Bavelier, 1998.], ali i relevantnost odreenih desnohemisferalnih struktura za neuroloku obradu vizual-nospacijalnih jezika, i to ponajprije angularnog girusa [Newman et al, 2001.], ime se otvara pitanje kakav je utjecaj modaliteta u kojem se jezik ostvaruje na bioloku organizaciju jezinih funkcija. U ovom izlaganju u ponuditi pregled dosadanjih rel-evantnih spoznaja proizalih iz prouavanja amerikog znakovnog jezika na temelju kojih bi se mogle zacrtati osnovne smjernice daljnih istraivanja neuralne osnovice ljudskog jezika, uz neizostavno ukljuenje i govornika hrvatskog znakovnog jezika.

    The Neurolinguistics of Sign Language

    The most of the knowledge about language processing and brain structures envolved comes out of the research conducted primarly on hearing non - signers, although in the past few decades there have been number of studies which also include visualspatial languages. Neurolinguistic studies confirm dominant role of the left hemisphere in both groups of speakers [Neville & Bavelier, 1998.], but also the importance of certain right hemi-spheral structures for the sign languages processing, especially Rh angular gyrus [Newman et al, 2001.]. That raises the question of the influence of the modality in which language is realised on the biological organisation of particular language functions. In this presentation, I will offer a review of some of some of the most relevant findings based on the study of American Sign Language [aSl], which may outline basic guidance for the further develop-ment of research on the neural base of human language, with the inclusion of Croatian Sign Language [hzj].

    Povezanost plakanja i osobina linosti

    Plakanje se u odrasloj dobi smatra signalom fizike ili emocionalne ozljede i esto ima ulogu privlaenja panje. Osim u negativnim situacijama, moe se javiti i pri poz-itivnim dogaajima. Istraivanja su pokazala postojanje spolnih razlika u plakanju i znaajnu ulogu osobina linosti u objanjavanju interindividualnih razlika u plakanju. U ovom istraivanju prouavane su spolne razlike u frekvenciji i sklonosti plakanju te povezanost osobina linosti s razliitim faktorima plakanja. 70 ispitanika je ispunilo Big Five upitnik linosti i Upitnik plakanja odraslih osoba. Kao to je i pretpostav-ljeno, rezultati su pokazali da ene pokazuju veu frekvenciju i sklonost plakanju. Uz to, neuroticizam se pokazao kao znaajan pozitivan prediktor frekvencije plakanja, sklonosti plakanju te plakanja zbog pozitivnih i negativnih razloga. Ekstraverzija se pokazala kao znaajan pozitivan prediktor sklonosti plakanju i pozitivnih situacija plakanja.

    Association of Crying and Personality Factors

    Adult crying is considered to be a sign of physical or emotional distress and it is often used to draw attention. As well as in negative situations, crying can occur in positive settings. Research has shown the existence of gender differences and a significant role of personal-ity factors in explaining interindividual differences in crying. This study examined gender differences in crying frequency and crying proneness along with association of personality factors and different crying forms. 70 participants completed the Big Five Inventory and the Adult Crying Inventory. As predicted, results have shown that women display higher crying frequency and crying proneness. Additionally, neuroticism was revealed as a sig-nificant positive predictor of crying frequency, crying proneness and positive and negative crying situations while extraversion was revealed as a significant positive predictor of crying proneness and positive crying situations.

    Atipina prezentacija sporadinog oblika Creutzfeldt-Jakobove bolesti

    CreutzfeldtJakobova bolest (CjD) je progresivna, neurodegenerativna i smrtonosna bolest sredinjeg ivanog sustava. Uzrokovana je prekomjernim nakupljanjem pro-teina priona i karakterizirana progresivnim razvojem demencije, cerebelarnom, pi-ramidalnom i ekstrapiramidalnom simptomatologijom, te mioklonizmima. Najei prvi znakovi bolesti su psihijatrijski simptomi.Incidencija bolesti je otprilike 1 sluaj na 1,000,000 stanovnika. Prikazujemo sluaj 63 g. stare bolesnice koja u anamnezi ranijih bolesti ima 10 g. ra-nije konzervativno lijeen karcinom plua, te je bila zdrava osoba do 2 mjeseca prije hospitalizacije, kada se javlja neurologu zbog naglih ataka paroksizmalnih vrtoglavi-ca u kojima ima osjeaj slabijega vida. Uinjeni Ct mozga ne pokae akutnih prom-jena mozgovine, ve spektar odgovarajui kroninim cerebrovaskularnim promjen-ama u toj ivotnoj dobi.Takoer niti ultrazvuna pretraga krvnih ila vrata ne pokae smetnje u modanoj cirkulaciji, a elektrofiziologija (eeg) mozga je nespecifina. Na-kon 2 mjeseca razvija i progresivnu neuroloku simptomatologiju.Ponavljani eeg-i kao i klasine snimke mozga magnetskom rezonancom (mR) nisu bili tipini za bolest, ve su nas razvoj klinike slike, diferencijalno dijagnostiko razmiljanje i ciljane pretrage cerebrospinalnoga likvora, te naknadno uinjene ciljane specifine snimke mozga mR-om doveli do jasne dijagnoze. Definitivna dijagnoza bolesti je biopsija mozga ili post-mortem, no u mnogim se zemljama iz raznih razloga (tehnikih, kulturolokih, obiteljskih) ne izvodi, pa tako i u naoj zemlji. Stoga istiemo vanost klinikih i paraklinikih pretraga, a na primjeru naega sluaja i vanost diferencijalno-dijagnostikoga razmiljanja kada su upravo te metode pretraga nespecifinih rezultata, posebno kod atipine klinike prezentacije sporadinog oblika bolesti.

    Atypical Presentation of Sporadic CreutzfeldtJakob Disease

    CreutzfeldJakob disease (CjD) is a progressive, degenerative, and fatal disease of the cen-tral nervous system. It is caused by abnormal accumulation of prion proteins and is charac-terized mainly by progressive dementia, cerebellar, pyramidal, extrapyramidal findings and with myoclonus. Most commonly are psychiatric symptoms, which are often the first signs of the disease. The incidence of CjD is approximately 1 in 1,000,000. We report a case of a 63-year old patient with acute paroxysmal and repeated vertiginous

    symptoms accompanied with vision difficulties. The symptoms started 2 months before hospital admission. In previous history the patient was conservatly treated due to lung car-cinoma 10 years ago. Brain Ct scan doesnt show any acute changes, but chronic cerebro-vascular changes suitable for age. Also, trans cranial Doppler examination of brain vessels and eeg was no specific.After 2 months she develops a progressive neurological symptomatology. Repeated eeg and standard brain mR imaging were not typical for CjD, but the development of the clini-cal image, differential-diagnostic thinking and specific investigations of cerebrospinal fluid (CSf) , and additionally made specific mR neuroimaging of brain lead us to clear diagnosis.Definitive diagnosis of disease is brain biopsy or postmortem brain analyses but in many countries for many reasons (cultural, technical, familiar) are not welcomed and preformed, as with our country. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of differential diagnostic thinking when methods of investigations are unspecific, especially at atypical clinical pre-sentation of sporadic type of disease, as with our case.

    Lijeenje tremora glave botulinum toksinom

    uVoDEsencijalni tremor, kao i cervikalna distonija, nekada su obiljeeni iskljuivo tremo-rom glave. Tremor glave je obino otporan na oralne lijekove. Ipak, botulinum toksin pokazao se efikasnom terapijom distonikog oboljenja.CiljCilj ovoga rada bio je ispitati efikasnost botulinum toksina tipa A u lijeenju tremora glave.mateRijali i metoDeJedanaestorici pacijenata s klinikom dijagnozom tremora glave, starosti od 27 do 75 godina, bilateralno je u m. splenius capitis injiciran botulinum toksin tipa A. Tremor je kliniki procijenjen i kvantitativno odreen pomou triaksijalnog akcelerometri-jskog sustava prije, te dva tjedna nakon tretmana. Za spektralnu analizu tremora koristio se raunalni program za analizu tremora (Viking Select Master 8.1.), kojim su pribavljeni podatci o dominantnoj frekvenciji i povrini ispod krivulje (PiK), odnosno ukupnoj snazi. I pacijent i ispitiva ocijenili su prilikom naknadnog posjeta ope poboljanje, koristei Patient Global Assessment (Pga) ljestvicu. Nakon toga, svi su prikupljeni podatci statistiki obraeni. RezultatiU ovom istraivanju, pet ukljuenih pacijenata imalo je esencijalni tremor, a est distoniki tremor glave. Klinike procjene pokazale su statistiki znaajno smanjenje jaine tremora glave nakon tretmana sa botulinum toksinom tipa a. Dominantna frekvencija i PiK nisu pokazali znaajne promjene nakon injekcija botulinum toksina tipa A. Ipak, PiK mediana bila je sniena, a sve konstitutivne toke u veoj mjeri grupirane oko nje. Koristei Pga ljestvicu, osam je pacijenata potvrdilo subjektiv-no poboljanje. Nai podatci takoer ukazuju na to da se mediana ukupne snage sniavala u skladu sa rastom opeg poboljanja pacijenata u skaliranim subjektivnim procjenama.zaKljuaKLokalne injekcije botulinum toksina tipa a mogle bi biti od potencijalne terapijske koristi u lijeenju tremora glave, te korisne u sluajevima gdje je uinak drugih li-jekova izostao

    aimThe aim of this study was to examine botulinum toxin A efficiency in head tremor therapy. mateRial aND methoDS11 patients with clinical diagnosis of head tremor, age 27-75, were injected with botulinum toxin A bilaterally into m. splenius capitis. Tremor was clinically rated and quantitatively assessed with triaxial accelerometric system, prior to and two weeks after the treatment. Spectral tremor analysis was performed using tremor analysis software (Viking Select Mas-ter 8.1), obtaining data of dominant frequency and area under the curve (auC) i.e. total power. Both subjects and examiner evaluated global improvement using Patients Global Assessment (Pga) scale on follow-up visit. All collected data were subsequently statisti-cally assessed. ReSultSIn this study, five patients had essential tremor and six patients had dystonic head tremor. Clinical ratings showed statistically significant decrease in head tremor severity after the treatment with botulinum toxin a. Dominant frequency and auC did not show any signifi-cant changes after the botulinum toxin A injections; however, the auC median value was de-creased with all of the constitutive points more grouped around it. On the Pga rating scale 8 patients confirmed subjective improvement. Our data also suggests that total power me-dian value was decreasing consistently as the patients global improvement was increasing in scaled groups of subjective responses. CoNCluSioNLocal injections of botulinum toxin A may be of a potential therapeutic use in head tremor therapy and useful in cases where other medications have failed to benefit.

    Utjecaj ishemijskog oteenja na imunokompetentne stanice i sustavni citokinski profil u bolesnika s modanim udarom

    PRoBlemIshemijsko modano oteenje s klinikom slikom ishemijskog modanog udara (imu) odraava se stanjem periferne imunodepresije.CiljIspitati promjene subpopulacija imunolokih stanica i citokina (interferon gama, IFN; imbenik tumorske nekroze alfa, tNf; interleukini, IL-6/-17/-1 ; transformirajui imbenik rasta-beta, tgf-; monocitni kemotaksijski protein-1, mCP-1; neurotropni imbenik podrijetlom iz mozga, BDNf) u bolesnika s imu.     Lipidna peroksidacija u mozgu i oteenje fine motorike u takorskom modelu dopaminergike neurotoksinosti

    Izazivanjem dopaminergike preosjetljivosti i neurotoksinosti u takora primjenom visokih doza metamfetamina uz prethodnu primjenu haloperidola mogu se postii laboratorijski modeli poremeaja motorike iju patogenezu ini oksidacijski stres. Oksidacijski stres nastaje prekomjernom produkcijom slobodnih radikala i sman-jenjem zatitnih antioksidacijskih mehanizma u organizmu. Posljedica je lipidna peroksidacija u razliitim regijama mozga, a posebno strijatumu koji je vaan dio ekstrapirimidalnog kortikostrijatopalidotalmikog motornog sklopa koji sudjel-uje u regulaciji motorike i fine motorike. Malondialdehid (mDa) je jedan od zavrnih produkata lipidne peroksidacije i iako nije jedini pokazatelj oksidacijskog stresa, esto se koristi zbog jednostavnosti metode dokazivanja. Kako bi se utvrdila pove-zanost lipidne peroksidacije u strijatumu i ostalim dijelovima motornog sklopa koji sudjeluje u finoj motorici sa oteenjem fine motorike prednjih ekstremiteta takora, u radu su mjerene koncentracije malondialdehida (mDa) u razliitim dijelovima moz-ga (kora, frontalna kora, hipokampus, mali mozak, strijatum, diencefalon) i procjen-jana su oteenja fine motorike prednjih ekstremiteta prema modificiranoj Irvine, Beatties i Bresnahan (iBB) skali u tri pokusne skupine takora: kontrolna skupina kojoj je aplicirana samo fizioloka otopina, skupina kojoj je apliciran i metamfeta-min (10 mg/kg, s.c.), te skupina kojoj je tri dana prije jednake doze metamfetamina apliciran haloperidol (5 mg/kg, i.p.). Utvrene su statistiki znaajne razlike koncen-tracije mDa u kori, frontalnoj kori i strijatumu obje pokusne skupine u odnosu na kon-trolnu skupinu. Mjerenjem koncentracije mDa u razliitim dijelovima mozga uoeno je da se najvia koncentracija mDa u skupine takora koja je primila metamfetamin, nalazi u diencefalonu > mali mozak > strijatum > hipokampus > kora > frontalna kora. Mjerenjem koncentracije mDa u razliitim dijelovima mozga u pokusne skupine koja je prethodno primila haloperidol, odnosno u koje je izazvana dopaminergika pre-osjetljivost, dobivena je slijedea raspodijela: diencefalon > strijatum > mali mo-zak > hipokampus > kora > frontalna kora te je dokazana jaka statistika znaajna povezanost koncentracije mDa u kori velikog mozga, frontalnoj kori i strijatumu sa oteenjem fine motorike.

    Lipid Brain Peroxidation and the Fine Motorics Impairmentcaused by Dopaminergic Neurotoxicity in Rats

    Haloperidol-induced dopaminergic supersensitivity and methamphetamine-induced neu-rotoxicity in rats can be used as laboratory models of movement disorders with the oxi-dative stress as a part of underlying pathogenesis. The oxidative stress occurs when free radicals are excessively produced and the organism is deprived of its protective antioxida-tive mechanisms.     in various brain regions, mostly in striatum which is a very important part of extrapyrimidal corticostriatopallid-thalamic (CSPt) motor circuit that regulates motorics and fine mo-torics. Malondialdehyde (mDa) is one of the end products of lipid peroxidation which can be measured in different biological samples and even though it is not the only indicator of oxidative stress, it is often used to indicate it due to its procedure simplicity. In order to de-termine the connection between the lipid peroxidation in striatum and other motor mecha-nisms enabling fine motorics and fine motorics forelimb impairment in rats, different mDa concentrations were measured in various brain parts (cortex, frontal cortex, hippocampus, cerebellum, striatum and diencephalon). In adittion, further fine motorics forelimb impair-ments were evaluated by applying the modified Irvine, Beatties and Breshnan (iBB) forelimb scale. There were three rat test groups: the control group which was administrated with saline, then the first test group which was given both saline and methamphetamine (10 mg/kg, s.c.) and the second test group to which haloperidol (5 mg/kg, i.p.) was administered three days prior to same dose of methamphetamine. Statistically significant differences had been confirmed when comparing the mDa concentrations in cortex, frontal cortex and striatum of both test groups and the control group. By measuring the mDa concentrations in different brain parts of the test group to which saline and methamphetamine were given, the highest levels of mDa concentrations were found in diencephalon > cerebellum > stria-tum > hippocampus > cortex > frontal cortex. After analyzing the mDa concentrations in different brain parts of the test group which was administered with methamphetamine and haloperidol which thereby caused dopaminergic supersensitivity, the following distribution of the mDa was observed: diencephalon > striatum > cerebellum > hippocampus > cortex > frontal cortex. These results clearly indicate the existence of a strong and statistically sig-nificant connection between the mDa concentration in cortex, frontal cortex and striatum and fine motorics impairment.

    Fraktalna analiza u morfologiji neurona: utjecaj kvantifikacije razliitih digitalnih slika

    U neuroznanostima fraktalna dimenzija slike nekog neurolokog materijala pred-stavlja parametar kojim se on kvantificira, ne ulazei u razmatranje pokazuje li ispi-tivani materijal svojstva fraktala ili ne.Uzimajui u obzir razlike izmeu binarne, granine i skeletonizirane slike, ova studija ispituje postojanje razlike izmeu dvije grupe neurona razliite morfologije.Za kvantificiranje tri razliita svojstva slike neurona upotrebljena je najpoznatija tehnika fraktalne analizeFractal Box Count. Koritene su 62 slike velikih multipo-larnih neurona nucleus dentatus-a ovjeka i 25 slika ganglijskih neurona mrenice make. Statistikom analizom fraktalnih dimenzija utvreno je postojanje statistiki znaajne razlike izmeu dvije grupe neurona razliite morfologije. Ovom studijom se predlae protokol koji definira na kojoj vrsti slike fraktalna analiza moe razlikovati dva morfoloka svojstva neurona, popunjenost prostora dendritima i oblik neurona.

    Fractal Analysis in Neurone Morphology: Quantification Effect of Different Digital Images

    iNtRoDuCtioNIn neurosciences fractal dimension of an image of some neurological material is a param-eter by which it is quantified, without considering whether the test material shows the properties of fractals or not.aimTaking into account the differences between binary, border and skeletonized images, this study examines the existence of differences between two groups of neurons of different morphology. mateRial aND methoDSTo quantify three different properties of neuron images we used the wide known technique of fractal analysis - Fractal Box Count. We used 62 images of large multipolar neurons of human nucleus dentatus, and 25 images of cat retina ganglion neurons. ReSultSStatistical analysis of fractal dimensions showed that there are statistically significant dif-ferences between the two groups of neurons of different morphology. This study proposes a protocol that defines in what kind of image fractal analysis can distinguish two morphologi-cal properties of neurons - space fillness and shape of the neurons.

    Kognitivne sposobnosti mjerene kompleksnim reakciometrom Drenovac (CRD) u onkoloko hematolokih bolesnika prije i poslije lijeenja anemije

    uVoDKognitivna disfunkcija uzorkovana anemijom vrlo je esta u onkolokih i hematolokih bolesnika te znaajno utjee na njihovu kvalitetu ivota.CiljCilj naeg istraivanja bio je procijeniti u kolikoj se mjeri maligna bolest i anemija odraavaju na kognitivne sposobnosti onkoloko-hematolokih bolesnika.BoleSNiCi i metoDe400 odraslih bolesnika koji se kontroliraju ili lijee u KBC Rijeka, Hrvatska, svrstali smo u etiri skupine izjednaene po spolu, dobi i strunoj spremi (po 100 ispitanika u svakoj skupini).     Strah od govorenja na stranom jeziku u srednjim kolama (Zato je engleski takav bauk?)

    Ovo se istraivanje bavi strahom od govorenja na stranom jeziku. Govorenje je jedna od produktivnih vjetina koju govornici stranog jezika razvijaju i kao takvo tee je od receptivnih vjetina. Kod govorenja poseban problem predstavlja injenica da ono zahtijeva trenutno, tj. on-line procesuiranje i stoga je teko kontrolirati i ispravl-jati pogreke. Ovo je istraivanje pokualo utvrditi postoji li i u hrvatskim srednjim kolama strah od govorenja na stranom jeziku, koja je njegova razina i jesu li uenici svjesni svog straha. Takoer, pokualo se utvrditi to je, prema miljenju uenika, uzrok njihova straha od govorenja te kako bi oni htjeli da se taj problem rijei. Po-kazalo se da znatan broj uenika osjea strah od govorenja, a najistaknutiji uzrok njihova straha je vrnjaki pritisak.

    High School Foreign Language Learners Speaking Anxiety

    This study examines foreign language speaking anxiety. Speaking is one of the productive skills that learners of foreign language develop, and is thus more difficult than receptive skills. The problem with speaking is that it requires on line processing and thus it becomes difficult to control it and correct mistakes. This research has tried to determine whether there is speaking anxiety in Croatian high schools, what the level of anxiety is, and whether learners are aware of their anxiety. Furthermore, the study has tried to determine what is, in learners opinion, the cause of their anxiety and how they would like to solve this problem. It seems that a significant number of learners experience speaking anxiety, and peer pres-sure seems to be its most common cause.
