Plant Vogtle Gets Permit to Draw Water for New Cooling Towers
A permit to siphon water from the Savannah River to operate cooling towers for two new
nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle has been issued despite strong opposition from environ-
mental and water protection groups. Southern Nuclear Operating Co. has permission to
draw up to 74 million gallons of water daily from an intake site on the Savannah near
Waynesboro, Ga. for units 3 and 4, which are under construction, according to the Geor-
gia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). Sara Barczak of the Southern Alliance for
Clean Energy said the EPD ignored the public's concern and rushed to issue the permit
even though the first reactor isn't scheduled to begin producing power until late 2017.

National Grid Joins Proposal for Canada-Boston Transmission Line
Utility giant National Grid is partnering with a company that specializes in underwater
cable projects in an alliance seeking to bring Canadian hydropower and Maine wind pow-
er to Greater Boston. National Grid brings greater clout to the project of the Green Line
Infrastructure Alliance, which includes Massachusetts-based Anbaric Transmission. Their
Maine Green Line proposal calls for burying cable and running it under the ocean a total
of 300 miles to reach Greater Boston and help lower energy costs, while allowing states
to meet their green energy goals, representatives said.

ENGINEERING
New Face in Omaha
The Omaha Design Center has a new senior design engineer in its Civil/Structural De-
partment. Mikhail Ginsburg started work last week (12/8).
CONSTRUCTION
Getting the Green Light in Freeport
Zachry and its joint venture partner, CB&I, have received full notice to proceed with con-
struction of the first two of three liquefaction trains for the Freeport LNG liquefaction pro-
ject in Freeport, Texas. Ultimately, the project is expected to involve as many as 4,000
construction workers in building facilities that will convert natural gas into liquid form for
export. The first liquefaction train is expected to start operations in the third quarter of
2018.
EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Presence and Impact in Brazoria County
Zachry has joined the United Way Board in Brazoria County, Texas, where the company
is involved in large projects for Chevron Phillips Chemical, Phillips 66 and Freeport
LNG. Representatives of Zachry’s External Affairs Department recently joined fellow
board members in volunteering at the Brazosport Cares Food Pantry in Freeport to or-
ganize donated food items for the pantry’s clients, conduct initial client interviews and
help carry food to clients’ vehicles.

INDUSTRIAL SERVICES
Serving Up Grace
Several ISG employees from the Chevron plant in Pascagoula, Mississippi have applied
their teamwork in a different setting. They recently volunteered to serve meals to more
than 100 men receiving treatment for drug and alcohol addictions at the Home of Grace
recovery facility in Vancleave. The non-profit organization has operated for almost 50
years, providing individual counseling, residential treatment and educational assistance
to thousands of men and women.
NUCLEAR
Heavy on the Stuffing
Employees of Zachry Nuclear Engineering’s Stonington, Connecticut office are helping
make sure that families in need will have Christmas gifts and certain essentials this holi-
day season. The office’s Care Team collected toys, games, clothes and diapers to sup-
port a local “stuff the bus” effort to fill a bus with items to distribute in the community.

Gas Project of the Year – The Sequel
For the second year in a row, the editors of Power Engineering and Renewable Energy
World magazines have selected a Zachry power plant project as “Best Gas Project” of the
year at the Power-Gen International Conference. This year’s honor for the Riviera Beach
Clean Energy Center follows the same recognition in 2013 for the Cape Canaveral Clean
Energy Center, which Zachry also built for Florida Power & Light (FPL). The selections
were based upon the technology employed on the projects, their impact on the industry at
large and their impact on the communities where they were built.
Zachry performed engineering, procurement and construction
(EPC) services in completing the Riviera Beach plant, which
began commercial operations in April of this year.
