On 19 August, Zaatar w Zeit opened a new branch in Al Waha Plaza, increasing the number of branches there to 13. The new branch will add another venue where customers can enjoy urban Lebanese street food.

Cinnabon held a Rolling & Baking event at Al Ghurair Centre and My City Centre Masdar. Putting on their cooking hats, the little chefs learnt how to make their own Cinnabons in a fun and interactive ambient.

I want to share a story of someone who achieved success through personal satisfaction, dedication, and determination but not without heartache, failure, and many mistakes along the way.

Many years ago, a young man was trying to decide what career path he wanted to take after he left school. The one thing he was sure of was that whatever he decided to do, he wanted to be the best at it; it was not about impressing others but about self-satisfaction and pride in one’s self.

He had a passion for design, and because his mother was a dressmaker, he was always interested in how creative and exciting this industry was, so he went to college to study fashion and design. He was only one of two male students in a class of 40, so the odds were stacked against him.

He studied hard and got a part-time job at a large dressmaking factory to learn even more. He eventually graduated with honors

and won the country’s award for the “Best Student of the Year.”

After a few years of successfully working in the Fashion Industry, he decided to buy his own restaurant. This was different from what he was used to with the fashion industry, involving long hours and hard physical work; he just loved food and had a great passion for people and hospitality.

Owning a restaurant meant being away from his family and missing out on many personal family milestones. However, the enjoyment of working in the food industry and the interaction with his dedicated staff and customers made it rewarding and worthwhile nonetheless, and he went on to open another three successful restaurants.

Seeking further challenges, he decided to go and work at a large company with 15 restaurants under its belt so he could gain more experience. He ended up staying there for many years and expanded on his knowledge, helping grow the company’s portfolio to over 300 restaurants.

Still wanting to grow in knowledge and experience, he decided to go overseas to work and expand his horizon, resulting in his working across 20 different countries with a portfolio of over 1,000 restaurants. The most important things are that his core values and drive never changed: passion and respect for your staff and customers, with a focus on quality and value.

The definition of success varies from person to person, but one thing we should always do is stay humble and remember where we started in life. Treat people as we want to be treated, and to achieve personal growth and development you need to expand your vision and horizons; this will help you achieve self-respect and satisfaction.

We often find opportunities in our daily life within Cravia and beyond, but we also have doubts if they may work or not.

Managing markets remotely always makes me ponder how to get things done in the most efficient way possible.

I learned to understand how my superiors think about these opportunities so I can address them in the best way; therefore, I thought listing tips might help you go above and beyond:

• Never use your emotions when addressing or writing things

• Ask yourself if what you are doing is a priority

• Is it the right time? This is the best indicator: can it hold off for another week’s, month’s, or year’s budget?

• Don’t always argue with your boss — choose your battles

• Never put your personal interests above colleagues

• Will what you are working on add value to the company, community, or self?

• Manage your numbers right

• Seek the counsel of experts

IF YOU BELIEVE IN IT, GET IT

• Look at best practices for getting things done

• Make sure you have enough information to best take advantage of an opportunity

• Never rush things; sometimes it is what it is

• Stay positive; it’s called an opportunity
