All of us have experienced moments of happiness. But it does not last. Why is it? What is happiness? Why it seems too difficult to be happy? Maybe be-cause we have the wrong idea about what happiness is. It is not something you achieve with certain circumstances or events going on in your life. It is a state of mind. To be happy or not, de-pends on you. How can this be possible? Because happiness is a daily decision; it is an attitude towards life. When you decide to be happy no matter what you are experiencing in your life, nobody can change it. No one is able to steal your happiness unless you allow them to do it. The way you see the world, de-

termines how happy you can be. We decide when we can be hap-py and the way we measure it. We tell ourselves: I will be happy when I will lose 30 pounds, I will be happy when I get the job, I will be happy when I will be in a relationship… We postpone our happiness until a moment in the future when something we con-sider good is going to happen.

When something we label as good happens to us, we allow ourselves to be happy and when something we judge as bad oc-curs, we are unhappy. The happiness you achieve

with a promotion or more money in the bank is not real happi-ness, at least is not the happi-ness that lasts. Happiness is when you decide to go through life feeling that everything will be all right, no matter what you are experiencing now, you feel safe and loved, you are happy. There is an inner connection between Self-Love and Happiness. When you feel good about your-self and about the world you live in, you are happy.Being happy is totally related

with accepting yourself and tak-ing responsibility for your own life. Live your life the way you feel it will be good to accomplish your purpose. Go deep inside of yourself and find out what makes you happy. Ask yourself: what I am passionate about? What are my dreams? Don’t compare yourself with others. There is no need. Your soul can have a different agenda than theirs. Search your own path to

happiness. You will be happy, really happy,

when you will understand that happiness does not depend on what you have or don’t have. It depends on who you are. You have the control. Happiness is contagious. When you are hap-py you will make others happy and the world will be a better place to live in.

NCRF’s Inaugural Latino College Expo Comes To,Los Angeles Convention Center December 13, 2014

CCN

The National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) presents the 1st Latino College Expo (LCE), Saturday, December 13, 2014 from 9:00am to 5:00pm at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, California 90015. The LCE will provide information and resources to help middle school, high school, and college students with an op-portunity to meet one-on-one with Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), public/private universities and community colleges. They will be exposed to numerous educational opportunities specifically available to students of Hispanic descent. Over the past few years, it has been reported that Hispanic col-lege enrollment rates among high school graduates has surpassed that of white student enrollment. For 16-years, the NCRF has helped underserved and under-represented students with access to attending and finding financial resources to pay for college. Student attendees of NCRF’s Inaugural Latino College Expo will gain insight to educational re-sources, scholarship opportunities,

financial aid, booming majors and hot careers. Financial Aid Special-ists will be on hand to share in-formation, about the “Dream Act,” also known as the Development Relief and Education for Alien Mi-nors Act, which allows some un-documented students to apply for and receive state-based financial aid and institutional scholarships. Latino students can present their high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores to college recruiters to be considered for on-the-spot ac-ceptance, scholarship awards, and have their application fees waived. This Latino College Expo hosted by NCRF, the creators of the Annual Black College Expo will offer seminars on booming majors, hot careers and how to get into and find money for college. Founder, Theresa Price who launched the first NCRF College Expo sixteen years ago, says, “America’s youth of all backgrounds need to be edu-cated to create better communities and a better America. There are so many resources for Latino stu-dents to help them be successful, that we want to offer a platform to do just that by hosting a Latino Col-

lege Expo.” Students have the opportuni-ty to win $3,000.00 in scholarships by entering the NCRF “Win Dollars for College.” Written essays on “Why is a College Educa-tion Important to Me,” are currently being accepted un-til the deadline on December 1st. In keeping with the NCRF motto…“Connecting Stu-dents to College, Careers & Beyond,” college students will be able to meet corporations that are looking to expand diversity and introduce students to their specific companies and career fields. This educational event will include a fun-filled day with over (50) col-lege and university recruiters and educational resources on-hand to speak to students and a scholar-ship presentation with celebrity

guest host and performers. Tickets are $8.00 per per-son (pp) or $6.00pp (online) and $5.00pp (groups of 15 or more) are also available. For more infor-mation, visit our website at [email protected] or call NCRF corporate office at 909-396-0151.

On November 18th, Jewish World Watch (JWW) presented its I Wit-ness Award to Intel Corporation in recognition of the company’s first-of-its-kind commitment to manufacture its microprocessors using conflict-free minerals. At the award ceremony, JWW highlighted Intel’s leadership, while calling on other companies to alter their sup-ply chains to end the purchase of minerals that fund armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where an estimated

6 million people have been killed since 1994.

“Intel’s pledge to remove all con-flict minerals from their supply chain is a powerful display of leadership. Jewish World Watch wanted to rec-ognize that bold commitment with our I Witness Award,” said Janice Kamenir-Reznik, the President of Jewish World Watch. “Intel’s ex-ample is a model for private sector engagement on this issue, which

While overeating and Thanks-giving are virtually synonymous, cooking accidents and Turkey Day, unfortunately, go hand in hand, too.

Because of the latter, Southern California Edison (SCE) urges its customers to add a healthy dose of safety to their preparations this Thanksgiving, since the National Fire Protection Association says cooking is the leading cause of home fires on a day that has three times more home fires than any other day of the year.

Unattended cooking is the culprit in most of those fires, said the U.S. Fire Administration.

“It’s easy to get distracted while cooking and entertaining family and friends on Thanksgiving Day,” said Don Neal, SCE director of Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety. “But you should never leave cooking equipment or appli-ances unattended for any reason. It is imperative that you turn them off or have someone else watch them if you leave the room. It only takes a few inattentive seconds to ruin your holiday.”

About 2,000 fires occur each year in the U.S. on Thanksgiving Day, causing on average five fatalities,

15 injuries and $21 million in prop-erty damage, according to the fire administration.

Additionally, customers should ensure that appliances bear the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) mark. UL is the leading indepen-dent product safety organization, and they do not currently certify the use of turkey fryers.

SCE recommends some other safety tips for Thanksgiving:• Replace appliances with frayed

cords. Contact with them can cause electric shock and serious injury.• Plug countertop appliances into

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)-protected outlets.• Locate all appliances away from

the sink. Remember, water and

electricity do not mix.• Do not overload outlets with

multiple adaptors or power strips.• Do not use extension cords with

major appliances.• Never fight an electrical or

grease fire with water. Keep a fire extinguisher, UL listed and rated for electrical and grease fires, nearby.• Unplug appliances that aren’t in

use, preventing them from being turned on accidentally.• Keep appliance cords out of

reach of children and keep the floor clear of other cords to prevent falls.

Being an ally to President Obama hasn’t prevented Rev. Al Sharpton from get-ting sanctioned by the IRS. It seems Sharpton and his various profit and nonprofit organizations owe millions of dollars in back taxes.

Here’s what the New York Times is reporting as a re-sult of an investigation it did

on Sharpton’s finances.1. He owes more than $4.5 mil-

lion in current state and federal taxes on his personal income and his for-profit companies, Raw Tal-ent and Revals Communications. Sharpton has more than $3 million in personal federal tax liens and state tax liens of $777,657. Raw Talent owes a combined $717,329 on state and federal tax liens.

Al Sharpton Delinquent on $4.5M in Tax Payments

2. His nonprofit National Action Network (NAN) also failed to pay federal payroll taxes. NAN’s tax li-ability grew from $900,000 in 2003 to nearly $1.9 million by 2006. It also took on a questionable role during Sharpton’s 2004 run for the presidency, which may have vio-lated FEC regulations.

However, in an interview with FoxNews.com, the 60-year-old civil rights leader and MSNBC host of “Politics Nation ” said he has in place an agreement with the gov-ernment to repay his personal and

business-related taxes and that his payments are on time.

“We have a signed agreement,” he said. “And what is in the agree-ment has been kept. We’ve been up to date. This is the most bogus story in the world.”

He also made clear that the roughly $1 million raised at New York event to celebrate his 60th birthday, on which The Times re-ported, will go toward repaying his debts.

Domestic violence charges have been dropped against Puerto Rico reggaeton star Don Omar.

He was charged in September with two counts of abuse, two counts of threatening a person and gun violations. Police say his 26-year-old girlfriend told investi-gators he hit her and threatened her with a gun.

But the woman declined to attend any court hearings. A posting ap-peared on her Facebook account saying she did not wish to pursue the case.

In her absence, the judge grant-ed a Monday request to dismiss charges. But the judge said prose-cutors could submit charges again if she changes her mind.

Don Omar did not speak to re-porters as he left court. He won 10 awards at the Billboard Latin Mu-sic Awards last year. His real name is William Omar Landron.

Veteran, multitalented actress Rita Moreno is heading to TV in a new animated show next year.

The EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winner will lend her voice to “Nina’s World,” a new children’s show slated to debut in 2015 on NBC Universal’s Sprout network, according to Variety.

Moreno, who was the first His-panic woman to ever win an Acad-emy Award for her performance as Anita on “West Side Story,” will voice Abuelita, the grandmother of the show’s title character that will help her grandchild navigate child-hood and learn about her culture.

“Nina’s World” is a spin-off of sorts to Sprout’s “The Good Night School.”

“Rita Moreno is a living legend, and it’s fantastic to welcome her to Sprout’s family,” said network president Sandy Wax in a state-ment. “We know that she will bring her character to life as no one else could – she embodies all of the spirit and energy that Abuelita brings to Nina’s World while main-taining an authenticity to the char-acter’s Hispanic background.”

Newcomer Isabella Farrier will voice the role of young Nina and Michele Lepe will voice her mother.

The two bodies were discovered in Cablotales village, near the Aguagua River.

National Police director, Gen. Ramon Sabillon, said authorities are awaiting confirmation from fo-rensic officials to confirm that the bodies are the beauty queen and her sister.

“Witnesses said my daughter left the spa with three men,” her mother, Teresa Muñoz, told report-ers. “I tried repeatedly all night to call their cellphones without any response.”

Four people, including Ruiz, have been questioned over the disap-pearance and regional police chief José Casco Torres said that there could be more arrests in the case.

Chief prosecutor Gabriela Car-ranza said there are leads that they can’t discuss so as not to in-terfere with the investigation.
