Yudhisthira’s Punishment When Yudhisthira was crowned as Yuvaraj, a case of of theft came for hearing. Everybody asked that Yudhisthira should judge the theft case and give verdict. It was supposed to be a test case for him. There were 4 accused persons- 1 Brahmin, 1 Khsatriya, 1 Vaishya & 1 Shudra. They committed the crime together But Yudhisthira gave different level of punishments to everyone. The Shudra got the least punishment, Vaishya slightly more and so and the Brahmin got the highest punishment. When asked about it, Yudhisthira stated that Shudra is unaware about the laws and works under others instruction and hence received least punishment. Whereas brahman is most knowledgeable and supposed to lead everybody else -- hence liable to stricter punishment.
