Lincoln Middle Scoop “Spreading the News Through the School” Volume 1 February 26, 2013 Issue 2 One School, One Book is a Wonder By Kyra Milloy & Nehemiah Vargas For the sec- ond year at Lincoln Middle School stu- dents are partici- pating in One School, One Book. "The purpose of OSOB is to develop a community of readers," said Mrs. C h o r d a s . This year a committee of teach- ers from Lincoln Middle School and Washington Middle School chose one book from reading book reviews and bestsellers' lists. OSOB is a program that lasts 4 weeks and students read about 75 pages a w e e k . The commit- tee keeps the book a secret to build sus- pense and enthusi- asm. There were clues in Times Square to help stu- dents try to figure out the book before it was revealed. Over 2000 people are reading this n o v e l . After four weeks, students at- tended an assembly recapping the novel. There was even a trivia game show onstage show- casing reading com- prehension! By Gema Granados & Calob Cooper On a Monday after school at 2:30… if you hear noises in the seventh grade hallway…it's probably Yu-Gi-Oh Club. If you never heard or played Yu-Gi-Oh, then you can ei-ther join or v i s i t t o watch. Mr. Wall said that he never played the game but, "I'm learning as I go." He said he decided to make the club be-cause "I was asked by Dominic Colite and Joseph Charneco." Mr. Wall said that he believes the most valuable card is the

Egyptian God cards. "While I believe that some are," Julio Her-nandez says, "the most valuable card is the 'Exzodia God.'" So, why Yu-Gi-Oh club? Dominic Colite

said," Jo-s e p h Charneco, Julio Her-nandez and I started playing Yu-Gi-Oh and then came up with the idea to play a f t e r

school." The only rule you need to know about Yu-Gi-Oh was noted by Jared Bur-gess. "The first rule is to believe in the heart of the cards. Also, have a good deck." Come to room 2513 this Monday!
