The name of "Summer Capital" began in
1954 when the CPC central committee adopted
the policy of working in Beidaihe in summer.
Major decisions and significant events influencing the fate of the P.R.China used to happen in Beidaihe, making it as important as Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Why we want to join the CDIO initiative ?
YSU has paid attention to the CDIO and made a
great effort to study it since 2007. We are extremely
interested in the concept, syllabus and standard of
CDIO and its integrated training program, project-
oriented teaching method. In April 2008, YSU joined
the CDIO research group organized by Ministry of
Education of China and acted as the subgroup lead
of mechanical engineering majors.
Why we want to join the CDIO initiative ?
For 6 years, we have proposed a series of teaching
and training scheme and put it into practice, and
become perfect gradually. The graduates under this
training are appreciated by a lot of corporations.
For the consideration of more efficiently studying
CDIO, more communication with other CDIO
collaborators and quickly promoting the application of
CDIO in China, we would like to apply to join the
CDIO initiative.
What goals we hope to achieve ?
1. To make engineering education in YSU meet
further the needs of industrial enterprises.
2. To ensure the major of Manufacture & Design of
Automatic Machine to obtain the final approval of
National Accreditation Committee of Engineering
Education (NACEE) and obtain 6-year certification.
3. To do our best to let the majors of Material
Processing & Control Engineering pass the
examination of NACEE and obtain 3-year or 6-year
certification.
To which programs we plan initially apply CDIO ?
Initially, we would like to apply CDIO to the majors
of Mechanical Engineering and Information
Engineering.

1. After practicing CDIO for 6 years we have gotten
the teaching and learning idea that learning should be
learner-centered; teachers play the role of instructors
and teaching and learning are interactive. A qualified
teacher should not only give lessons to the students,
but also arouse students’ enthusiasm and inspiration
for the leaning.
2. We have established the “3-level project-oriented”
curriculum system of specialty courses: the graduation
project is the 1st level, the specialized skill training the 2nd
and the technology design in specialty courses the 3rd.

3. We have combined learning in the class,
experiment at the laboratory and discussion in the
seminar to form an integrated teaching method in
which the steps of theory, practice and engineering
design are explicit and conducted one by one.
4. We have developed a series of characteristic
practice programs of specialty courses with the aid
of the factory attached to YSU and some
corporations run by the school fellows.

5. We have constructed an examination framework in
which the whole leaning process and comprehensive ability
are emphasized.
6. In the past, we presented our experience several times
at some conferences aiming at teaching reform, and this
training scheme exerted positive effect on the teaching and
training in some other universities of China. We organized
two CDIO seminars and gave the training courses to the
attendees coming from nearly 60 universities, which promotes
the application of CDIO to the curriculum reform of the
mechanical engineering majors.

How do we expect CDIO to influence this program
1. To enhance communication with the CDIO collaborators to be
able to learn the latest advances on CDIO and make adjustment of
our syllabus timely.
2. To share experience on the teaching reform of other CDIO
collaborators so as to benefit the CDIO programs of corresponding
majors.
3. To acquire guidance on aspects of the content, plan and
implementation of curriculum projects to enrich some specialty
courses in YSU and promote the ability of evaluation on teaching
effect.
4. To gain support for the training of teachers in order to promote
the teaching ability of the faculty.
