    roCk baNd3 pro Mode

    Te You Rock Guitar is compatible with Rock Band3 Pro Mode.

    NOE: the Mad Catz MIDI PRO-Adaptercannot be used to navigate menusoutside o Rock Band3. However, once in the game, the Mad Catz MIDIPRO-Adapterwill come online. At this point the YRG can be used to navigatethroughout the game.

    1. Connect your YRG to the Mad Catz MIDI PRO-Adapterusing the

    5-pin MIDI cable.

    2. Plug the Mad Catz MIDI PRO-Adapterinto the console.

    3. On the You Rock Guitar, press and release the MUSIC and GAMEbuttons simultaneously. Both lights will stay on, and the panel LEDs

    will read rb.

    4. Power on your console, startRock Band 3, and use thebutton mapping below tonavigate using the YRG.

    o interace to your game console, you will need:

    1. Te appropriate Mad Catz MIDI PRO-Adapter or your console(Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3).

    2. Standard 5-pin MIDI cable.

    In addition to the standard eatures o Rock Band3 Pro Mode, the YRGallows you to listen to your perormance during the game. Tis aords theopportunity to turn your gaming experience into a learning experience. ohear your perormance plug your 1/4 cable into both your YRG and youramplier. NOE: You can also use headphones via the 1/8 out.

    1. Leave Rock Bandmode by pressing MUSIC and GAME simultaneously.

    2. Go to music mode and select your instrument and or synth sound. NOE:

    Your instrument settings cannot be edited inside Rock Bandmode.

    3. Once you have adjusted all the desired parameters press MUSIC andGAME simultaneously to enter back into Rock Bandmode.

    Fret seLeCt

    Fret Select is a new technology developed so as to make switching between

    presets, guitars, and synths as ast and easy as possible. Rather than scrollingthrough these settings using the control panels up/down arrows, jumping toyour avorite setting is now as easy as pressing down on a single ret.

    Setting Presets via Fret Select

    1. Press and hold the MUSICbutton on the control panel.

    2. Press a single ret to select thecorresponding preset. Te

    presets are arranged on theretboard numerically, startingrom 1 at the rst ret o thelowest string and ascendingup the neck. Te next stringbegins at 21, the next at 41,and so orth. Te numbers wrap once themaximum preset has been reached.

    3. Release the MUSIC button.

    1. Press and hold the MUSIC button on the control panel.

    2. Te LED display will show C=xxxx L=yyyy, P=zzzz where C=the currentlyinstalled rmware version, L=the currently installed librarian, and P=thecurrently installed preset version.

    3. Additionally, the orange string indicators at the bottom o the LED display willlight up. Te ewer that light, the closer to dead your batteries are.

    sLeep Mode

    So as to avoid unnecessary power drain, the You Rock Guitar will automati-cally put itsel in to sleep mode aer 5 minutes o disuse. Note that thisapplies only when the YRG is being powered via batteries, not via USB. o

    take the YRG out o sleep mode, toggle the power switch o and on.

    restoriNg FaCtorypresets

    o restore all presets to actory settings, press and hold GUIAR/SYNHand press RACK. Note that doing so resets alterations madesolely to the99 presets. Firmware and Librarian versions will remain wholly unaltered.

    yoU roCk Modes

    Te YRGs You Rock Modes allow or a type o play designed to make theexperience o learning the guitar more enjoyable rom day one. Tere arethree distinct You Rock Modes, as ollows:

    You Rock Mode 1prevents the player rom hitting any wrong notes byadjusting out-o-key notes to the nearest in-key note.

    You Rock Mode 2 plays a scratch or bad note sound when playingout-o-key notes, similar to that sound made upon playing an incorrectnote in a rhythm video game.

    You Rock Mode 3 is similar to Mode 2, except that an incorrect notewill simply not be played.

    eNteriNg/exitiNg yoU roCk Modes

    1. Press and hold the YOU ROCK button.

    2. Te LED will display a number, 1-3. Using the up and down buttons on thecontrol panel, scroll to the number corresponding to your desired You RockMode.

    3. Release the YOU ROCK button.

    4. o exit You Rock Mode, simply press the YOU ROCK button again.

    yoU roCk sCaLes

    Te You Rock Guitar has two types o You Rock Scales:

    ype 1 scales correspond with the built in backing tracks, and are selectedby deault upon selecting a track.

    ype 2 scales correspond to standard major and minor keys. Tese can beselected by holding down the YOU ROCK button, and using Fret Select(see page 2 o this insert) on either o the E strings. Notes selected on theLow E string will select the corresponding Major scale. Notes selected onthe High E string will select the corresponding minor scale.

    Note: Setting the You Rock Mode scale this way will NO transpose theactive backing track. It is thereore not recommended that you change keys i

    you wish to play along with the included backing tracks.

    yoU roCk Modes (CoNt.)

    As an example, selecting ret 2 on the low E string, as shown inthe picture to the le, will set the You Rock Scale to F# Major.Pressing the 4th ret on the high E string, as shown in the pictureto the right, will set the You Rock Scale to Ab Minor.

    Midi MoNo Mode

    MIDI 17, 18, 19, 20 are reserved or MIDI MONO mode. Tis means that theMIDI inormation or each string is transmitted on a separate MIDI channel.Tis also allows or polyphonic bending with SLIDE on.

    Channel Mappings are as ollows:

    Tis setting allows you to alter the volume o notes triggered usingAP mode. o do so, simply hold down the AP button and scrollthrough the volume settings (0-11) with the volume knob. Setting11 will cause the loudest triggers, whereas setting 0 will silence thetriggers entirely.

    Five control panel submenus have been added. Each allows you to cus-tomize the perormance o the You Rock Guitar to better suit your play-

    ing needs. Tese submenus are ordered numerically.

    o access a submenu:

    1. Press and hold the MUSIC button.

    2. Press the PLAY button to access the next submenu. Te orange stringindicator lights at the bottom o the LED display will begin to ash.

    Te number o ashing lights corresponds to the current submenu.

    3. Release the MUSIC button.

    4. o return to the Home menu, press the MUSIC button.

    Submenu 1 - ranspositionHere you can transpose the active guitar, synth, or MIDI channels up toone ull octave above or below the normal settings. o do so:

    1. Press the button corresponding to the soundset you would like to alter.

    2. Te LED display will show a number. By deault, this number is 0, buti you have previously transposed the soundset in this way, then thenumber shown will be your previous setting.

    3. Use the UP and DOWN buttons to choose your desired transposition.Each single digit deviation rom 0 represents a 1/2 step transposition,either up or down. For instance, transposing the standard tuning(EADGBE) o the guitar patch down to -2 will make it so that thestrings are actually tuned to DGCFAD.

    Submenu 3 - Velocity ables

    Here you can adjust the reaction o the You Rock Guitar to variousmodes o picking. Each o the velocity tables handles dynamics that is,your ability to control the volume o a triggered note by changing the ap-plied orce o an attack in a slightly dierent way.

    Velocity ables 1-6 allow or dierent dynamic ranges, with 1 being themost versatile, and 6 being the least. able 7, however, has no dynamic

    range, rather setting all triggered notes to play at the same volume.

    Within this submenu, simply depress the ret corresponding to your de-sired Velocity able. Fret 1 corresponds to able 1, Fret 2 to able 2, etc.Tis can be done on any string.

    Note: a dierent Velocity able can be assigned to the guitar, synth, and MIDI

    patches independently or each o the 99 presets. Simply press the button cor-responding to the instrument whose Velocity able you wish to change. I nobutton is pressed, guitar will be selected by deault.o save changes made to yourcurrent preset, hold down the MUSIC button and press the RECORD button.Switching between presets without doing so will cause you to lose any unsavedchanges.

    Submenu 2 - Open uningsHere you can set up to 9 custom tunings. From the home menu, these

    can be accessed by holding OPEN and using the UP/DOWN buttons toscroll through tunings -1 to -9. Once you have reached your desired tun-ing number, set the open tuning by doing the ollowing:

    1. Press and hold the OPEN button.

    2. Using the 12th ret as a reerence, press a ret above or below thatpoint to select the new open note or that string. For example, to set

    Dropped-D tuning, press the 10th ret (D) on the lowest string.Tis will set the open tuning or that string to the D below standard Etuning (two rets below 12, two hal steps below E).

    3. Release the OPEN button. Your custom tuning will now be savedunder the Open setting (-1 through -9) that you have selected.

    Submenu 4 - Preset OptionsHere you can customize the perormance o many aspects o the YRGpresets. Note that alterations made here will aect only your currently se-lected preset. Within this submenu, use the UP/DOWN buttons to scrollto your desired parameter. Tese are as ollows:

    Note: o save changes made to your current preset, holddown the MUSIC button and press the RECORD button.Switching between presets without doing so will cause youto lose any unsaved changes.

    od Open String DampingEnabling this option makes it more difcult to trigger open notes.Use this i you are experiencing unwanted note triggers when soloingup the neck. With this option displayed, press down on any ret totoggle open note damping on or o (1 is on, 0 is o ).

    Sr Slide RangeHere you can set the number o hal steps (1-12) you can slide up ordown. Note that the YRG uses pitch bend or slide, and that i youslide outside o the set acceptable range, you will trigger a new note.

    With this option displayed, press down on a ret to set your desiredslide range. Tis can be done on any o the six strings. Depressing therst ret will allow you to slide up or down a single halstep, while

    depressing the twelh will allow you to slide up or down a ull octave. br Whammy Bar Range

    Here you can set the number o hal steps (1-12) by which the ullyengaged whammy bar will alter the pitch o any notes being played.

    With this option displayed, press down on a ret to select your desiredwhammy range. Tis can be done on any o the six strings. Depressingthe rst ret will allow you to bend down or up a single hal step,

    while depressing the twelh ret will allow you to bend up or downa ull octave. Note that this setting is limited to being no higher thanthe current Slide Range setting (i Sr is set to 5, or instance, br canbe set anywhere rom 1-5, but not to 6).

    Note: to reset these parameters to their deault settings,simply press and hold the RECORD button while withinsubmenu 5. When the operation is complete, the lights onthe control panel will briey ash.

    PC MIDI Patch Change

    Here you can set the MIDI patch assigned to the current preset. Withthis option displayed, press down on the ret corresponding to yourdesired setting (1-128). Fret 1 on the low E string corresponds withsetting 1, Fret 1 on the A to 23, and so on, up to Fret 18 on the highE, which corresponds with setting 128.

    Hd Hammer DecayHere you can set the rate at which hammer-on velocity decays aer

    initially triggering a note. Te lower the setting (0-21), the longer thedecay. At setting 0, in act, you will be able to hammer on indenitely,with no decay whatsoever. With this option displayed, press downon a ret to select your desired decay setting. Tis can be done on anyo the six strings. Fret one corresponds to decay setting zero, and rettwenty-two corresponds to decay setting twenty-one.

    Pd Modulation Pitch DepthHere you can adjust the depth o the modulation caused by

    employing the joystick. With this option displayed, press down onthe ret corresponding to your desired setting (0-127). Fret 1 on thelow E string corresponds with setting 0, Fret 1 on the A to 22, and soon, up to Fret 18 on the high E, which corresponds with setting 127.

    PS Modulation Pitch SpeedHere you can adjust the requency o the modulation caused byemploying the joystick. With this option displayed, press down on

    the ret corresponding to your desired setting (0-127). Fret 1 on thelow E string corresponds with setting 0, Fret 1 on the A to 22, and soon, up to Fret 18 on the high E, which corresponds with setting 127.

    Submenu 5 - Global SettingsHere, much like in submenu 4, you can customize the behavior o manyaspects o the YRG. Alterations made here, however, aect not only a

    single given preset, but the behavior o the guitar as a whole. Within thissubmenu, use the UP/DOWN buttons to scroll to your desired param-eter. Tese are as ollows:

    HE Hammer EnableWith this option selected, press down on any ret to toggle hammer-ons and pull-os on/o (1is on, 0 is o ). Note that, while in APmode, hammer-ons and pull-os will be enabled, regardless o whatthis parameter is set to.

    HP Hammer Pre-DelayTis parameter allows you to set a slight delay between when a noteis hammered on and when said note actually sounds. Tis is useuli you are getting double triggers rom hammer-ons when plucking.Te higher the setting (0-21), the longer the delay beore the note issounded. With this option displayed, press down on a ret. Tis can

    be done on any o the six strings. Te rst ret corresponds to settingzero, and the twenty-second ret corresponds to setting twenty-one.

    SG String GainTis parameter allows you to set the gain o each string individually.A value o 1-10 can be assigned, with 10 being the setting with thequietest response, and 1 being the setting with the loudest. Withthis option displayed, press down on a ret on the string whose gainsetting you wish to alter. Te rst ret corresponds to setting one, thesecond to setting two, and so on. See note on next page.

    tS rigger SensitivityHere you can set the level o vibration required to strike a note. A

    value o 1-10 can be assigned, with 10 being the setting where anote requires the least vibration to trigger, and 1 being the setting

    where a note requires the most vibration to trigger. With this optiondisplayed, press down on the ret corresponding to your desired

    setting. Te rst ret corresponds to setting one, the second to settingtwo, and so on. See note on next page.

    Note: to reset these parameters to their deault settings, simply press andhold the RECORD button while within submenu 5. When the opera-tion is complete, the lights on the control panel will briey ash.

    Submenu 5 - Global Settings (cont.)

    CF Crosstalk lter

    Tis setting, when enabled, reduces the input rom strings adjacentto the last string successully strummed or plucked. Enable this toreduce the appearance o unwanted note triggers. With this optiondisplayed, press down on any ret to toggle the Crosstalk Filter on/o(1 is on, 0 is o ).

    AS Auto Silence on/oBy deault, when you li your ngers o the retboard, the YRG

    mutes all notes currently sounding. Tis parameter allows you todisable that eature. With this option displayed, press down on anyret to toggle auto silencing on/o (1 is on, 0 is o ).

    LH Le Hand ModeWith this option displayed, press down any ret to toggle le handedmode on/o (1 is on, 0 is o ).

    WhaMMybar star poWer/oVerdriVe aCtiVatioN

    A new method or activating Star Power/Overdrive in Guitar Hero/Rockband has been implemented. As an alternative to using the

    mute bar, you can now pull the whammy bar up (away rom thebody o the guitar). Te eect o pushing the whammy bar down(towards the guitar body) remains unchanged.

    Note: Te String Gain and rigger Sensitivity parameters can be used to adjust

    the guitar or dierent playing styles. Tese two parameters are global settings andthey do interact - use them to adjust and tweak the eel o the instrument to your

    playing style

    rigger Sensitivity is a global parameter and applies to all strings evenly. StringGain is individually adjustable per string. ypically you should use rigger Sensitiv-ity to adjust the guitar so that it eels like it is responding correctly to your playing

    without signicant crosstalk. In some cases, you may nd that one o the strings is

    louder or soer than the others - use String Gain to compensate or this. Te de-ault settings are 5, and it should not be necessary to make signicant adjustments.
