FAQ’s:What is the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC)? Founded by Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez, 25 years ago, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City is one of the world’s most respected and in�uential youth choruses, a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program award-winner.

What is the Young People's Chorus at Washington Heights (YPCWH)? YPCWH is the �rst after-school community chorus of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City. It was created in November 2012 to expand the YPC mission of diversity and artistic excellence to children in more communities throughout the city.

Why join the YPCWH?Your child will learn such skills as good vocal technique, how to read music, while developing teamwork and self-con�dence.

Who teaches the YPCWH?YPC Conducting Fellow Maria Peña is the Principal Conductor of YPCWH. Maria came to YPC from conducting the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus Training Choir, and holds a Bachelor in Music summa cum laude in voice performance from the University of North Florida.

How often does YPCWH perform?The chorus performs several times a year, including a winter concert, a spring concert, and community events. Last year, they made their debut at Carnegie Hall and the 92nd Street Y.

How often do they rehearse?YPCWH rehearses once a week on Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. from October to May at P.S.366 Washington Heights Academy.

How much does it cost to participate?The annual tuition for the program is $195 plus a registration fee of $50. Tuition scholarships are available.

What is required of my child to audition?A love of singing and to sing 30 seconds of his or her favorite song.
