OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

HI Slovenia, with more than 40 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

The charming hostel Videc is located on an elevation of 1050m above sea level in the hotel apartment village Bolfenk on Pohorje above Maribor. It offers 28 lively decorated rooms which makes up 114 beds all together (58 basic and additional 56 beds). All rooms feature satellite TV, telephone, free Wi-Fi, bathroom with a shower, toilet and a balcony with a view of the beautiful Pohorje. The hostel has a reception with a café (open if necessary), and a small lobby along with storage for skies and a large restaurant which can accommodate seminars and festivities. Right next to it is the wellness centre Bolfenk, a shop, a cable cart leading down to the city, ATM, football field, ski slopes and many hiking and biking paths.


Hostel Videc is located at the elevation of 1050m above sea level in a hotel apartment village Bolfenk on Pohorje above Maribor. It is accessible by cable cart (from Maribor), car or bus (from Hoče). Mariborsko Pohorje is a favourite recreation point for all generations, who also love to hike there. The forest paths are a place where hikers, bikers, mountaineers, horse lovers, paragliders or other adrenalin lovers meet.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Breakfast: Self-service buffet. Various types of cheese, sausages, spreads, cereals, yogurts, fried and boiled eggs, cooked sausages, juices, teas, coffees and at least three types of bread.

Lunch / Dinner: Self-service buffet. Cold snacks, warm snacks (two types of soup), two types of meat, fish, three types of side-dish, salad bar and sweet corner.

Conference room Hostel has three meeting rooms: Golobica, Sivka and Mušnica that can attend 25 to 80 people. Halls can also be joined.

There are several hiking and biking paths, large football field (artificial grass) and in winter time the hostel is in the middle of a winter ski resort.

Adrenalin parkThere are adrenalin opportunities, such as high platform polygon, climbing wall, giant swing and the tower of courage. If you’re brave enough you can try your nerves at the highs of 14 metres. The giant swing is a special rope which lifts you up to the 8 meters and swing you over the crevice with a great view of the city of Maribor. The tower of courage is something, you have to handle yourself (the safety crew is on the ground), so you have to climb it and handle the height!

PohorJetPohorjeJet track is installed on the ski slope from the triangular clearing to the Snow stadium. The ski lift takes you to the start and then you rush downhill through sharp curves and unpredictable depths, but you can decide upon the speed for yourself.

Bike Park PohorjeBike Park Pohorje offers a mountain bike trail from the top at Bellevue to the foot of the mountain. On the trail you can even make jumps up to 6 meters long. The length of the trail is around 4km long and offers various paths downhill. But we suggest the first time you tackle it you do it in a company of an instructor.

Paint ballPaint ball is a tactical adrenalin sport where two teams fight to get the other teams flag. The referee and a specially designed polygon will help you reach new victories.

Bolfenk fairy-tale villageBolfenk fairy-tale village is near the hotel Bolfenk. It takes you to the world of local fairy-tales of Pohorje, where children will enjoy and learn about the mythical mountain creatures, while you can have some time for yourself to walk or drink a cup of coffee – but of course, you’re also invited to learn about the mythological world of Pohorje.

RidingFor beginners and children there’s the possibility of riding within the enclosure under the supervision of the horse handler. But you can also choose a picturesque ride on the colourful forests of Pohorje and its pastures.

Mountain BikingPohorje offers many thousands of miles of mountain roads and paths appropriate both for recreational and demanding mountain cyclists as well as families.
