Woodinville Alliance Culture

Where we are heading (Mission) – As a response to the love and transforming presence of Jesus Christ in us, we are

passionate about being followers and risk takers that live from faith. We are people that reach out, connect with and

grow deeply with one another, working to be restorative and renewing in Woodinville and the surrounding community

as we embrace God’s Word, worshipping Him into fullness of life.

Who we are – Like Woodinville itself, Woodinville Alliance is a great mix of children, youth, men, and women that are

intentional about learning together and leaning into life. Collectively, we are made up of artists and musicians, engineers

and teachers, business leaders and learners, gardeners and entrepreneurs, blue collar and white collar, designers and

counselors, prayer warriors, skydivers and praisers. Out of this, we are together expressing joy and hope from our

encounters with Jesus. We encourage authenticity, often hearing from those outside our community that we are

welcoming and uniquely committed to growth through relationship!

As a church of grace, we affirm that we won't give up on the lost to hold onto the found, knowing that found people,

find people. And while we don’t have any agenda, we do know that navigating life requires friends to walk through the

hard parts that come to all of us. So… our enthusiasm is for people to live fully, thriving alongside others wherever you

may be with God.

With us, it’s okay to not be okay. But our hope is that everyone would experience increasing transformation and

freedom in response to hearing the unique call that God has for each of us to be caregivers and influencers “on earth as

it is in heaven”.

Ministry & Outreach - Woodinville Alliance has a wide array of ministry and outreach opportunities which we see as a

natural way to care for those around us, expressing thanks to God as a response to His living in us. A few of these

ministries include:

Children’s Ministry – a ministry that comes alongside parents to provide a foundation for spiritual growth in our

kids

Genesis Process – an intentional small group based healing & recovery program, available separately for men

and women

Global Missions – as a significant part of our DNA is missions, we have sent teams to Mexico, Russia and

Tanzania, as well as provided support for missionary work in Indonesia.

Men’s and Women’s Ministries – two amazing weekly programs focused on relationships and spiritual growth.

Small groups – Bible study and care groups ranging in size from 4-14, meeting frequently in homes

Peacemaker Ministries – cultivates a church culture of peace – based on God’s word, encouraging and

equipping believers to love their neighbors as themselves, especially in the midst of conflict.

The Porch – come as you are. This is a ministry of connection with espresso “on the side” (Have a cup on us!). It

is the newest piece of a growing Welcome & Connect team.

Totes to Go – outreach and aid for homeless children

The Way –a recently vacated student ministry position, which has historically had multiple weekly gatherings of

middle and high school students focused on Gospel truth, discipleship, service, and outreach into our

community.

Services & Worship - We presently have 8:30 AM and 10:00 AM services in a contemporary worship setting and style.

Our main Worship Center has seating for nearly 500 per service. There are 4 strong worship team leaders serving us

each Sunday. We are committed to developing the Arts and Worship Pastor/Director role as we begin to shape our

culture in responsiveness to celebrating God and His expression of vision and leadership through community.

Woodinville Alliance History

We celebrated the 35th anniversary of the beginning of Woodinville Alliance in April 2014 by honoring the five Lead

Pastors who have led our church since its founding in 1979. Woodinville Alliance began as a daughter church of North

Seattle Alliance Church with the name of North Creek Alliance Church.

In 1983, the church purchased our current property and changed the name to Woodinville Alliance. Three building

projects in 1985-1986, 1992-1994 and 2003-2005 were completed to better reach our community and serve a growing

congregation.

Our attendance has varied over the years. Around 2005, average weekly attendance grew to 1000. Presently, our

weekly attendance ranges between 300 to 400. Exciting new opportunities and growth have arisen from a season of

challenges. We have all been pushed to journey in faith, courage, and grace with one another as we have searched for

and hoped in the promise of deeper abiding life with Jesus and our community.

To this end, we completed an outside church assessment in November 2012 and hired Phil Strong as our New Senior

Pastor in October of 2015, the final component of a series of recommendations from our assessment.

Over the last 18 months, several truly amazing outcomes reflect a stirring in response to the Spirit which continues to be

a gift of faith moving through our people. These highlights include:

Facility Debt Reduction - With a strategically located facility covering over 50,000 square feet, we began a debt

reduction campaign in late 2013. Since then a generous congregational response nearly eliminated our debt -

freeing up immense resources to be used for future ministries, staff, worship, education, outreach, and

missions.

Porch Ministry Launch – A large 50+ person welcome and hospitality team (called the Porch) was formed to

focus on seeing, connecting and caring for everyone that walks through our doors. We like excellent espresso

and creativity but we love to grace others with the gift of time, presence, and prayer. This ministry blends them

all into something special that is taking off in our community.

Revisions to Governance Model –We have adopted a Policy Governance model of leadership that has the aim of

empowering and freeing leadership to better imagine, create and respond to God’s call in serving through our

body. Our Governing Council consists of men and women with a majority of elders, plus the Lead Pastor. We

have updated our bylaws to reflect these changes.

Community Profile

About Woodinville – Right smack in the middle of the professional tech and scenic rural corridor, Woodinville reflects a

blend of its agricultural roots and the technology hub of the larger Seattle & Eastside metro area that it directly feeds. As

a bedroom community sitting along the Sammamish River, it has its own distinct charm and identity. A large number of

farms, equestrian facilities, walking and biking trails, renowned wineries and breweries, hundreds of acres of wooded

and grass parks, and businesses make up this town with a lively and diverse personality. It has become a destination for

recreation and tourism across the Puget Sound region. It’s simply a great place to enjoy the outdoors, be a part of

something culturally unique and experience community life.

Just slightly removed from the intersection of several major freeways, the town of Woodinville is right next door to the

University of Washington, 4 major education institutions, Microsoft, Amazon and other innovation centers and

employers. A majority of its residents are well educated professionals of all ages. Within the immediate surrounding

community, 5 to 15 miles from Woodinville, resides the larger suburban cities of Bellevue (pop 122K), Redmond (pop

57K), Kirkland (pop 84K), and Bothell (pop 35K). Woodinville itself has a population of 11K.

Woodinville Alliance is centrally situated off of the main road that runs through the valley, less than half a mile in either

direction between the town center and the winery district. Our facility, sits on 7 acres of land on the Sammamish valley

floor, with the river directly behind it.

Youth Director Profile

As outlined in our Church and Community profile, Woodinville Alliance and its leadership team senses a very clear

movement of God aimed squarely at the renewing and restoring of Woodinville and the surrounding community. We

believe that God’s Spirit has positioned us for growth. Our priority is creating and sharing an expectancy for

transformation, healing and encounter with God; believing quantitative increase is a good sign of health when chasing

the qualitative. Woodinville Alliance seeks to develop a leadership model with staff and volunteers that emphasizes

team, authentically and joyfully reaching out to and connecting with those around us, as we live into the purposeful

desires that God has to express himself through humanity as His sons and daughters. Yes, we believe this will require a

strong dose of humor and a sense of one’s own limitations (humility)! We are confident however, that from this

submissive posture God intends to give us “more” - creating stewards that empower people to live full lives that

experience Jesus above simply knowing about Him.

While we believe this “partnering” movement is beyond a building, a church brand, or an individual personality, we

faithfully anticipate God bringing a Youth Director that sees themselves as one part (or member) of many in the body.

This person’s vision and eagerness for people and ministry will stem from a personal conviction of call, maturity and on-

going experience as a worshipper of the living God. It would be evident that the Spirit has freed them to courageously

and transparently communicate excitement for the Good News of God’s loving grace deeply with others while remaining

available to hear God’s voice speaking new and creative things into their own heart. Prayer will be their anchor, the

Spirit their guide, and relationship their field of practice.

Our community is creative, techy, suburban and hungry for something real and hopeful to break into their lives. Our next

Youth Director will love diversity (incomes, ages, races, personalities) and engage the culture around them with the

Truth in relevant ways. They will see themselves as a servant to the churched and unchurched alike, bringing these two

communities together in meaningful ways.

The next Youth Director at Woodinville Alliance will love communicating God’s Word and will be a learner them self.

They will highly value practical application in teaching, but will draw from and emphasize the “larger stories” of Scripture

… God’s grace filled intentions to set things right “on earth as it is in Heaven”. This person will have a passion and ability

to make the truths of the Scripture relevant to those exploring the faith, as well as challenge existing followers of Jesus,

leading them to experience AND follow Jesus. They will have received a biblical education that has prepared them for

youth ministry; they will possess a proven track record inviting others into active participation while cultivating and

surrounding themselves with new leaders; they will have the ability to work with lay and staff leaders as part of their

larger team; AND they will be creative about developing a ministry that is integrated in its approach to the spiritual and

emotion development of kids, as they move through the life and ministry of the Church. Parent partnership and

engagement will be an important aspect of developing the Woodinville Alliance Youth Ministry program.

Our desire is that candidates applying for the Youth Director position will self-assess and determine the degree of call

and internal alignment they share with the qualities, skills, and experience included herein before submitting for this

position.
