Editor’s Letter
The response that we received for our second online edition was extraordinary to say
the least. It beat our projected numbers in a mere couple of days post-release and the
reception didn't just leave us overwhelmed but also pumped us up and motivated us to
strive for an even better third online edition! And here you have it.
Our new sections like the The News That Was and The Girl In The Pink Hat that were
introduced last month received loads of positive feedback and so we have decided to
continue them. We have now introduced a new section "Trending in Ahmedabad"
keeping the Amdavadi audience in mind.
Continuing the tradition, last time it was Atif Aslam we interviewed, this time it's Palash
Sen of Euphoria. Also, a special piece on the upcoming India-Australia series by the
founder of the cricket blog Bored Crazy Cricket Indians also found a place in the edition.
Like the previous edition, we have once again given our Youth Speak open section 5 full
pages. We really do mean it when we say that Youth Connect is YOUR magazine.
A number of submissions for Youth Speak this time around spoke about how our
education system can be improved. Although we couldn't publish all of them in a single
edition, there is one that finds a place in the Youth Speak section; and the other forms an
opinion in my editorial -which is again based on our education system.
A special on Tattoos, a glimpse of 2011 in the form of a visual representation, reviews,
etcetera make sure that the edition is diverse enough to cover varied youth interests.
With this edition, we hope for you readers to continue coming back to Youth Connect
and get the most out of it. Your exemplary support to the initiative and concept of Youth
Connect is immensely appreciated.
Have a happy read. And lastly, I wish all of our readers and supporters a Merry
Christmas and a very Happy New Year in advance.
Sincerely yours,Rahul Bhagchandani

SPORTS
Let's have a late Xmas in Australia.
By Gaurav SethiFounder Bored Member of www.boredcricketcrazyindians.com.
You can follow him @boredcricket + one of those Bored Meetings.
India has in the past tried their darnedest to beat
Australia by playing better cricket. That's old
school. India must look no further than its
surroundings to beat them – on Boxing Day, when
the Indians step into the coliseum that is the MCG,
they have to befriend the locals – and then, make
them turn in on their very own.
If the Indians field first, big names like Sachin,
Sehwag and even MSD should patrol the boundary
– interaction with the crowds is key, as will signing
hundreds of autograph books, a sign alone won't do
– make it personal, talk IPL contracts. Skipper MS
must look to win over the rowdies, the drunks; if
this means keeping at cow corner, so be it – it will be
hugely innovative, yes, but more so a lasting bond
with the upstarts will be forged.
Work on the Ponting sledges, make them
penetrative, invoke Bhajji – if Ricky is neutralized in
the first test, and still better, dropped after that,
Australia as a nation will be deflated.
They may even concede the series so as to not drop
Ponting mid-series.
Play two spinners. Fewer quicks will breakdown
this way.
The spinner(s) should wear Bhajji masks (circa
2001). India must acknowledge that it wasn't Bhajji's
bowling that had the Aussies under the cosh – it was
his obnoxious, prickly ways – and his in-the-face
(and yes, his face too) demeanour that had a major
part to play in the successes of 2001 etc
Sehwag and Gambhir should spend plenty of
quality time together – that is the key to their
wellbeing as openers. In the nets, instruct them to
develop running-between-the-wicket skills. Keep
an update on Sehwag's hearing, Gambhir's head, as
also weddings in his household. Make him angry
again. Tell him he's ordinary like Bangladesh.
Let Dravid make a few speeches in the dressing
room, that will keep him going. Employ ace
communicators to inform Sachin that he has scored
hundreds in the past, and the likelihood of him
scoring another one, very soon, is not too remote.
Let him also know that the Tendulkar Opus is one
helluva book.
Let VVS Laxman be, he's playing Australia.
As for Virat Kohli/Rohit Sharma – let it be known
they're lucky to play at number six, this is
Cheteshwar Pujara's spot.
The warm-up games are over, MSD, you can play
now. Sarcasm is the only language MS speaks. MSD
will be key to India's success Down Under, if he
clicks as a batsman, he clicks as captain, and India
should win the series 2-0. The only way to make it
click is to have MSD wear his CSK jersey under his
India whites.
Zaheer Khan, for once, will have to last the whole
damn tour. Umesh Yadav will have to be
possessed by the policeman he wanted to be, lathi
charge on the Aussies – should be weary of all
those one-day variations, just bowl the cliché –
good areas, boy.
Ishant Sharma should be prepared to bowl more
than 5.3 overs. Greg Chappell should be allowed
to make that inspirational speech to the Aussies
on match eve. And the next day will be Christmas
for the Indians.

Interview by Nisrin Saqib & Komal Karamchandani Photography by Faiyaz Hawawala & Hiranya Mehta
On 18th December 2011, Euphoria left us enthralled with a lively, energetic and beautiful performance. The show started with a wonderful video of their latest album 'Item'. It then moved on to Palash Sen (lead singer of the band) and his band members playing the tunes from various songs of their previous albums and different movies as well. The Youth Connect Team got a chance to interview Palash Sen after the concert. Here is a sneak peak!
Palash Sen, a glass of cutting chai in hand, sat down for a rendezvous with Team Youth Connect!
YC: One particular incident that you distinctly remember from your college days and that you would like to share with the youth.
YC: Well, what do you think of the youth of Ahmedabad?
YC: You mentioned 'thepla' during your performance, have you tried any Gujarati food and what do you like the most?
Palash Sen: Ummm…Not one! But well, everyday it so happened that I used to sing in my class. I was a class singer. This was the time when I was studying to be a doctor. So, ya, I would sing in the class even when the lecturer would be teaching and then they usually would stop teaching and ask the class to listen to my singing and then get back to studies.
Palash Sen: Oh, I love the crowd. They are amazing and they make us want to come here again and again.
P a l a s h S e n ( c h u c k l e s ) - O h 'thepla'…man…I love thepla! And what are the other stuffs? Kh..kh. (YC prompts 'khaman', 'kakhra'!) Yes 'khaman' and 'kh'…'kh'…how do you say it? Yea, khakhra. Those are delicious. I always make it a point to have some. YC: What do you keep in mind while composing music?
Palash Sen: Nothing…nothing at all. It's just what my heart asks me to do and I do it, right away!
Palash Sen (grins)- No! The question of relieving stress arises when you are tired but making music never tires me. I do this because I love it and it comes directly from the heart not because I need to relieve stress. It's just fun to make music!
Palash Sen:Well, 'Item' because it indeed is an 'Item'. Here we have brought in issues like 'terrorism'. But in my previous albums, everything surrounded just around 'girls'. Not so the case in this one, here it is not only about girls but we have also brought in other issues. (Laughs hard)
Palash Sen (thinking a lot)
Palash Sen: Okay! (hurriedly) It has to be a tie between three cities –
YC: Do you think making music is a stress reliever?
YC: Your latest album is 'Item'. Why 'Item'?
YC: A rapid fire round of four questions. Which is the best city for performances? You can't say Ahmedabad just because you are here!
YC – Rapid Fire!
Delhi, Pune and Ahmedabad.
Palash Sen: Sure did! Because we perform a lot in cities like Mumbai, but the love we get from you people makes Ahmedabad go in my top three list.
Palash Sen: Jana gana mana
Palash Sen: It's difficult! I love all my songs yaar..but okay the latest one 'Item'.
Palash Sen: No, not 'Maeri'.
Palash Sen: My kids.
Palash Sen:My mother.
Palash Sen: I think, it's a brilliant idea. I believe only the youth can bring in necessary changes in this country. The country needs people like you all and if a magazine becomes one of its mediums, I think it's amazing. It can't get better. Good luck with it guys.
YC: Ahmedabad had to be, eh?
YC: Favourite song…
YC: From your albums…
YC: Not 'Maeri'?
YC: Your weakness.
YC: Your strength.
YC: Your thoughts and views about Youth Connect.

YOUTH SPEAK
Recent talk of the town is not India's achievements
on the cricket pitch, or how corruption is eating
through our country like termite, BUT a peppy song,
WHY DIS KOLAVERI DI from the upcoming Tamil
flick- 3..The song is a rage among millions of students
and youngsters, especially on social networking sites
like facebook and twitter and video sharing site
youtube. It recorded the highest number of views on
youtube in a single day and crossed the 1 crore mark
in a single week. .Recently the views have surpassed
the 12 crore mark!!! Isn't that fabulous? That the
NEWYORK TIMES chose to write about it last week is
testament enough to its growing popularity, not only
in India but across the globe.
The slang 'Kolaveri' has been used by the makers of 3
to depict the anguish of a person who has just tasted
rejection at the hands of the girl of his dreams. The
song, sung in a combination of English and Tamil,
popularly referred to as Tanglish, with its catchy
tune, nonsensical lyrics and strong accent is
thoroughly enjoyable and utterly relatable.
In an interview Dhanush, the man behind the magic
said "When I was writing down the lyrics, I kept in
mind all the English words that are used in the Tamil
vocabulary. Words like I, you, me, how, why, cow.. I
just framed them into sentences and that's how I
came up with the song."
According to Dhanush, the song is suitable only for
bathroom singers. Its simplistic and rustic beats
make it catchier to the commoner. Heartbreak is a
phenomenon almost everyone can relate to. The
song was initially leaked on the internet, and the
makers, having noticed the phenomenal response,
decided to go for an official release .Upon release
kolaveri topped the Indian chartbusters and was all
over the internet and radio. Within a week of its
official release it received more than 1 million
shares on facebook. .The stats say it all! Even the
paneer dosa hasn't done as much as KOLAVERI
in bridging the gap between North and South
India!!On 24 November 2011, this song became
the first Tamil film song to be
premiered on a national music
channel, MTV India. Such is the frenzy
that alternate versions of this song in
Gujarati, Kolhapuri and even Japanese
have sprung up, everyone trying to hop
on to the bandwagon of fame that is Kolaveri! Sonu
Nigam's son, adorable little Neevan's 'milk version'
of the song is the epitome of cuteness!
If you find everyone around you singing bizarre
lines like "Hand la glass, eyes-u full aa teaar-u" or
"White skin-u girl-u girl-u, girl-u heart-u black-u"
and are wondering what's going on, then you have
been living under a rock or on a different planet
maama!!
With KOLAVERI DI going viral on the cyberspace
it's already the next big thing and definitely a
youth ANTHEM!! pa pa paan pa pa paan flop
song.

Vishakha Bhavsar2nd year, B.Com
J.G. Commerce College
It was still early in the morning, when I sat with
my friends, having a cup of coffee before
gathering the will to attend the morning
schedule of lectures. It was a usual day, woke up
in the morning, dragged myself to my feet,
cleaned up, bid mom goodbye and that is how I
find myself in the next few hours, sitting with
three of my 'bff's' listening to one of them
cribbing over her broken relationship. Not that I
would think of giving her a piece of advice, as I
was certain that it would fall on deaf ears and
seven years of being an agony aunt had taught
me a few things the hard way. First, never ever
try to reason with people who have been given
the boot by someone who were once a 'reason-
for-their-existence', and second, never stop
giving them tissues. I don't advice them partly
because they would not listen and, mostly
because all they want is you to listen. Some
people want an audience to their martyrdom.
One thing that has always struck me as weird is
the idea behind bad mouthing the person, the
minute you fall out of love. How can you claim
to have loved somebody when you can't even
respect him or her at the end of the day? The
question is, is it really that simple to fall out of
love? Is love supposed to be that fragile? I
believe that in every relationship, the only thing
that changes are the circumstances. If it is the
circumstances that change you, why let it
change the love that you share? Some people
have tenures for love. Many teenagers these day
fall in love at first sight and their statuses on
social networking sites change rapidly from
being 'single' to 'in a relationship' and from there
it escalates to 'it's complicated' and finally it runs
a full circle and comes back to being 'single'
again. Whatever happened to the 'happily ever
after' ?! It may well be extinct! As I know it,
nobody ever falls in love, consciously! You
simply fall in love and it can't be helped! And it
just can't be defined. Every person has his or her
own type of romance. For some it's as subtle as
the soft morning sunlight and for some, it's as
fiery as a blazing inferno.
Can there be a happily ever after? In MY honest
opinion, YES it can! Think about how you really
feel for your partner. Think of all the times when
your partner must have lovingly held your hand
and become your conscience or guiding light,
when your mind was clouded with doubt. Try to
look at the silver lining! It's better to shed a few
tears to mend a relationship rather than weep
over it after it is severed. So, you think you were
wronged, fight it out. But more importantly,
SORT it out! Let them know that you are here to
stay! Forgive all the past misdeeds and look
forward to a shining future. Don't hang up on
them but rather, hang in there! In 'the Kung Fu
Panda,' Master Oogway once said “yesterday is
history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a
gift. That is why it is called the "present."
Cherish your present. Revel in this beautiful
feeling. And be honest. Not to him/her, but to
yourself.
Till then, Love your life and everyone else in it!
Hanging in there!

Just as Cars run on fuel; man on
food, water and air; this universe
runs on thoughts -thoughts are all
that this universe is made up of.
At each moment, one's mind is
occupied in thinking something or
the other. These thoughts, these
ideas are supremely potent and
have a telling effect on our life and
how life shapes up. The book, “The
secret” says 'thoughts become
things'. These three words define
beautifully yet simply how
important contro l l ing our
thoughts is. The human mind
comes across sixty thousand
thoughts a day. Most of these are
repetitive and thus influence our
lives in a huge way. Every event
that occurs is a product of
something that was once a
thought. These thoughts manifest
into actions and thus control our
life. There have been many books
written on the concept of how
influential thoughts are. Most of
these focus on positive thinking.
This however is easier said, than
done. “Stay positive” or “Be
positive” – these words which are
meant to be inspiring can end up
being very irritating. And as I look at it, thoughts are of
two types. One, the thoughts that
come to us and two, the thoughts
that we think the thoughts that
come to us are pr imari ly
influenced by the situations that
persist around us, our past
experiences and the way we have
conditioned our mind. Any tough
period of time is bound to bring
negativity into our mind as we feel
bad about it. And the way we feel
is certainly the biggest factor
affecting our thoughts.
The thoughts that we think, are on
the other hand a part of a
voluntary effort on our part to start
believing that things are fine and
that they will end up being perfect.
Our mind is very powerful but at
the same time can be easily fooled.
This is one of the most important
facts which make posit ive
thinking as important as it is. As
silly as it may seem, fooling our
mind into believing that things are
perfect or alright and feeling the
joy of having achieved what you
set out for, can go a long way in
actually helping you achieve the
desired result.
Over a period of time you start to
naturally think positively. This
exercise of believing that 'all is
well' also leaves us with a very
positive feeling and this sum up to
our efforts. After sometime, both
the thoughts that come to us and
that we think become good
enough and such happy thoughts
eventually make us happy. And
happiness is all that we want in
life!
The circle of life keeps on rolling
and, good and bad times keep
coming. Still being happy or sad is
most of the times in our control. By
adapting our thoughts to a
situation, we not only remain
happy but are also able to maintain
a stable state of mind which then
enables us to fight our way out of
the situation.
So stay happy, wear that smile and
feel blessed for all that you have
been bestowed with.

That First Day
YOUTH SPEAK
It's the dream of almost every high school
student to get into college as soon as possible
and so was mine; and once I was done with
boards, living that dream was down to just a
matter of months. Very soon those months
turned to weeks and then those weeks turned
to days. It's indeed very difficult to put in
words the excitement for the “first day of
college”.
And the moment I woke up on the final day of
my vacation, all I could manage to think about
was college, college and college. The day was
overwhelming for sure and amidst all that
excitement, I completed the required
preparations I had to do for the next day (not a
usual habit though!).
Finally the D-day arrived – I woke up with
immediate panic as soon as my alarm clock
rang. I was happy – it was the first day of
college. I was nervous – yes, it was the first day
of college. Literally, I was swept over. I had a
zillion things in my mind – from what I was
going to wear for the day to how was I going to
approach new people. I had so many
numerous emotions running through me. I
was confused. Dilemma all round.
For me, it was actually the very first time that I
was absolutely away from my comfort zone,
and nervousness will prevail when you're
about to start a new phase of your life, that too
at a new place. Having none of my old friends
by my side played a big role in my emotional
rollercoaster; but soon I moved from fear to
excitement.
That fear was all done and dusted, and all I felt
was – excitement. The moment my bus
entered the campus, my anticipation grew
massively. And more sooner than later, I felt
the difference – the difference of being a part
of something huge, something mature.
The sights of new people all around made me
feel insignif icant against the fresh
background. But nonetheless, I was all
charged to make new pals but feared if people
would accept me the way they did at school.
As I explored the campus I found a few
acquaintances and was overly delighted to
meet them.
Soon we the “freshers” headed to the
auditorium for the orientation which lasted
for three hour, followed by college tour. Our
'seniors' were more than happy to show us
each and every nook and canny!
And before I could've realized my day came to
an end – but a happy end! And meeting new
people wasn't that difficult!
I was in a new place far away from home; I met
new people and learnt how to be independent.
I got my first lesson on how to leave my
comfort zone and take a step into a piece of the
real world.
I must say, I grew up already!

YOUTH SPEAK
The Conspiracy in EducationThere are certain facts about our education
system that are not very popular but which reveal a secret not known to many.
The education system in India is a derivative of the Education system which was designed and implemented by the British during their rule in India. It is an unquestionable fact that the objectives of the British were subjugation and ensuring a steady supply of slaves.
Around 1900 the new mass schooling arenas slowly became impersonal places where children were viewed as HUMAN RESOURCES (thus the phrase). As the twentieth century progressed, and particularly after WWII, schools evolved into behavioural training centres , laboratories of experimentation in the interests of corporat ions and the government.
The secret of commerce, that kids drive purchases meant that schools had to become psychological laboratories where training in consumerism was the central pursuit. Using the mechanisms of mind control training, habits, and attitudes the above idea was implemented. It is saddening to see that those mechanisms are in effect even today.
Here are some of the techniques deployed which are still prevalent,
Our current curriculum majorly
consists of evaluating people on an individual basis. We are never trained in team formation; rather any form of union is condemned and considered illegal. It was decided that by pitting students against each other and creating an environment of low level stress they will be habituated to abandon trust in peers.
Intellectual dependency is the second
technique deployed. The choice of the
number and topic of the subject that must be studied is decided by everyone but the student. It was decided that people (slaves) must be habituated to rely on “superiors”, “experts” and everybody but themselves.
The next technique used is to instil a
provisional sense of self esteem. It was very essential that the slaves not be too confident, or else they could create difficulties. Thus it was decided that students be graded (just like vegetables in the market). As a result a monthly report is sent to a student's home to mark exactly, down to a single percentage point, how dissatisfied with the child a parent should be. And thus so much importance given to performance in the examinations.
The students are always watched.
Constant surveillance was very essential to prevent any kind of promiscuous fraternization.
The rise in the number of student suicides is a clear indication that these techniques are taking their toll. As children we are very inquisitive and full of energy. Then why is it that as we grow old the thirst for knowledge disappears and the energy diminishes?
This system was purposefully designed to restrict free thinking. When the British imposed the education system in India, they did it with a clear purpose of churning out slaves. But unfortunately even after 63 years of independence our education system still lacks the reforms it so desperately requires.

Tattoo Artist Robin
TATTOO
Mansi Doshi & Shagufta Khan
Your body is a temple, but how long can you live in the same
house before you redecorate?
People who are blissfully in love or people nursing a broken
heart, mothers or teenagers, mainstream workers or eccentric
artists? What is the one thing that binds them all? It's the unusual
love for body art, the most popular being 'tattooing'.
A tattoo is made by inserting indelible ink into the dermis layer
of the skin to change the pigment. The designs of these tattoos
vary from animal and human impressions to quotes,
dedications and abstract figures. The art of tattooing has been
practiced since decades immemorial. The origin is believed to be
in Japan, from where it spread to Egypt, Arabia, Britain, America
and the rest of the world. What began as a religious
identification, is now associated with passion for the arts. Today,
more often than not, a tattoo is a symbol of trendiness, the latest
fashion statement. From top bollywood stars to the guy /girl
next door, everyone seems to be sporting one! And they don't
come cheap! Your favorite design can cost you a bomb, and
requires a bit of aftercare, but if flaunting is what you have in
mind, it's definitely worth it! Let's take a look at this latest vogue
from a professional's eyes! Youth Connect talks to Tattoo Artist
Robin.
Q. Response from youngsters these days?Ans. You would be surprised, more than teenagers, the clientele consists of married couples mostly ranging from 25-30 years.
Q. Latest trends? Ans. Spiritual tattoos, portraits, child's picture, black and grey tattoos, realistic tattoos etc.
Q. Do people get it done because it means something to them or as a fashion tattoo?Ans. The ratio is 9:1. 90 % people get it done initially for flaunting fashion trends. Some usually get serious after their first one while 10% of them get it done because it genuinely means something to them.

What people said on getting inked...
TATTOO
Q. Your take on tattoo as a fashion statement?Ans. Tattoos are beautiful. I prefer if the tattoo really means something to the person Sometimes tattoos are permanent proof of temporary insanity!
Q . D o y o u n g s t e r s o p t f o r t e m p o r a r y t a t t o o s ?Ans. Yes many of them do. It is an old mehendi style concept and is very time consuming. It has found popularity in Gujarat.
THREE STEPS TO GET TATTOOED
BY ROBIN
1. Ask yourself why you need a tattoo. Don’t get it just because everyone is
getting one.
2. What you wanna get tattooed. Our likings, desires keep on changing. After
a while you may not like design. It should be the most important decision to choose what you would like to carry on
your skin for life.
3. Take your time to choose an artist who can bring your imagination on
paper. There is a lot of difference between an artist and a professional
tattoo artist. Be aware that you don’t end up visiting inexperienced artists.
I personally believe whatever body I've been gifted with I should keep it in its purest form.
Getting inked is destroying the essence of its originality.
Rohan Maheshwari
Yes. I feel having a body art is a way of expressing one's inner thoughts and one's true character.
Danesa Raguram
No. The body is supposed to remain pure. It is supposed to be the way it has been made. A tattoo is an artificial accessory and
such accessories destroy the purity of our skin.
Sariga RaguramI like tattoos and would love to get inked! Getting inked a tattoo that means something to you sounds awesome.

DID YOU KNOW?
The island of Great Britain takes its name from tattooing, with Britons translating as 'people of the designs'.
Barbie Doll launched a tattooed Barbie in 2011, which was widely accepted, although it did attract some controversy.

AGONY AUNT
I am a 20 year old guy. My
girlfriend of 3 years left me for her
ex. I am totally shattered. What
should I do to win her back?
Dear Mr Heart Broken,
Breaking up is difficult to deal with,
girlfriend choosing her ex over you
is even worse. But remember, every
cloud has a silver lining, no matter
how dark the cloud and thin the line!
She clearly still has feelings for her
ex, and your relationship was bound
to hit rough waters. Isn't it better to
know now? Let her go, you deserve
better!
I am a 23 year old guy and an only
son. I have completed my masters
in management. I wish to set up my
own business, but my father insists
I join the family business. What
should I do?
Dear Mr. Guy on the Crossroad of
Life,
You have a critical choice to make,
which will affect your future in more
ways than one. Being independent is
admirable, but supporting your
family is your duty too. Besides,
starting a business without learning
the tricks of trade is bound to land
you in a soup! My advise to you is,
join the family business, work for
two years, get a hang of things, and
then decide your future course of
action! If you are still keen on
launching your own business then,
your father will give you a fair
hearing! Be patient and you will
find your way!
I am an 18 year old girl. My mother
doesn't miss any opportunity to
constantly nag me for little things. I
am fed up. What should I do?
Dear Miss Fed-up,
Nagging is a universal mommy
habit, perhaps genetically imbibed
in women all over the world. There
is no escape my friend! But you can
reduce the frequency of these nag
attacks by occasionally cleaning
your room and closet! On a serious
note, have a heart to heart with your
mother, tell her how you feel, and
promise to be better in future. And
sometimes its okay to let the steam

You always wanted to do something for the planet, wanted to be a part of The Change but could never figure out what to do? Then your time is now. Samajhdar Sintu started off as a comic strip in the Times of India's Newspaper in Education (NIE) edition a year ago. With wisdom wrapped in handmade comic strips, it gave subtle tips on doing our bit in making the world a better place. And now the Samjhdar Sintu team is launching a website. “The website will serve as a search engine for any recycling need. From a pen to a briefcase to a motorcycle and even your old pair of denims, search about anything and see how the website will help you make artefacts out of things you usually throw in the bins” said a Samjdar Sintu team member to Youth Connect. “Also, if you cannot do the recycling by yourself, the search engine will suggest institutions nearby who will do it for you.” Interesting idea indeed; check out – it goes live on this 24th.

Harley Davidson in Town! The 'Concept Hyundai' managing director, Pranav Nanda who also happens
to be a bike maniac, wished to launch a Harley Davidson showroom in
Ahmedabad after the launch of Harley Davidson in metropolitan cities like
Mumbai and Delhi. The dream is now a reality, the Ahmedabad showroom
incidentally being the 7th one opened in India. The promotion entailed bike
rallies with 21 Harley Davidson owners. The response has been phenomenal,
with 10 to 12 bikes already sold. For most guys, Harley Davidson is a dream bike, as it is the epitome of class
and style. And on the other hand most girls don't mind riding pillion on a Harley Davidson! People can now
customize their bikes which would then be a mark of their belonging and ownership. The prices of the bikes
range anywhere between Rs 6.5 lacs to Rs. 24 lacs. Hoardings are already in place, announcing the launch of
Harley Davidson in Vadodra and Rajkot. So are you buying one of these?!
Chicken wings fly to Ahmedabad! After much controversy, deliberation and confusion, the fried chicken fast food giant KFC arrived in Ahmedabad a few weeks back. The much awaited outlet has something in store for everyone. The 11
herbs and spices- recipe is a “hush hush” trade secret! Certain KFC outlets in India have employed deaf and dumb people at the counters to minimize the chaos, wonder if the Ahmedabad branch will follow suit! Efforts on making a good first impression are quite visible. Customers get a free guided tour through the restaurant. This allows the customer to verify that separate kitchens for vegetarian and non-vegetarian are functioning in the restaurant. Also the counters, staff and queue are separate to woo the Gujarati vegetarians! Despite this a few customers complained about the slow service. “But the chicken makes you forget all about it” says a customer who had specially came down from Baroda to indulge in his love
for KFC. The tale doesn't end there. A wide vegetarian menu attracts veggie lovers as well! The krushers and burgers provide the much needed variety. Colonel Sanders's fried chicken bucket is going to satisfy many taste buds in aapnu Amdavad!

'Macbeth'by Shakespeare

A classic is always thought to be not understood or levied with difficult words. But when we hear the name of 'Shakespeare', all of us are curious to know what the classic comprises of. 'Macbeth' is definitely a well-known play and it is based on the protagonist (some critics would call him the 'antagonist') of the play. It is a story of how the main character 'Macbeth' believed in the supernatural (three witches) predictions and worked on the way to making these true. He succeeded in becoming the Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and later the King of Scotland. The witches also predicted Banquo's, (the next in power after Macbeth) future and all their predictions w e r e c o m i n g t r u e . T h e soliloquies of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth impress the readers to no end, who can't wait to turn the page to find out what happens next.
A lot of characters like King Duncan (the then King of S c o t l a n d ) , M a l c o l m , Fleance and more make the play complex by their entries and exits but it d e f i n i t e l y k e e p s t h e audience biting their nails till the end. The play has its fair share of chill inducing moments. Lady Macbeth's speech is perhaps the controversial highlight of the play, where she calls down the spirits to 'unsex her' so that she could forget all the generally known feminine qualities of being 'nice' and 'generous' and instead help in killing Duncan so that Macbeth (her husband) could get the throne. She helps her husband to kill King Duncan and thus ensures the throne to him. But the play ends with the tragic hero's death, Macbeth does become the King of Scotland as per the witches' predictions but after all his
efforts he is murdered, the prophecies of the witches coming true.
The play is a classical tragedy which makes its readers develop twin feelings of love and hatred towards Macbeth but there is a segment of readers who are greatly carried away by the glorious character that he is. It is a must read for you to find out whether you love, hate or have both sort of feelings for Macbeth, t h e h e r o w h o s e o v e r ambitiousness leads him to his downfall.
We, here at Youth Connect have a million documents to play around; and the most difficult task is to ascertain everyone on the team has access to all documents related to the magazine. Not just that, once you make sure everyone has those docs and images, its again i m p o r t a n t t o m a k e s u r e
everyone in the team is updated with the edited copies of all prospective articles and their support images. And although one might think emails
with address groups can do that job, well no objections at all, it can do the job; question is how efficiently does it do the job?
We worked with emails for a while but as soon as the number of files increased beyond a manageable number, we needed
an alternative. Soon, good for us, we found Dropbox.
What is Dropbox you may ask? Dropbox is a software program and is one of the most efficient applications used today to manage documents between multiple devices and between multiple people. W i n d i s a c l a s s i c m a s t e r p i e c e tha t en ta i l s ardent love, p a s s i o n , fervour, wit and valour but
most importantly, it strongly embraces the anecdote of 'lost love'. The storyline revolves around Atlanta during the period of Civil War. The title has been aptly surmised for it talks of a civilisation that has vanished and no longer exists; it pays reverence to a whole era that's been long gone with the winds.
Headstrong and impudent Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) is the daughter of an Irish immigrant plantation owner G e r a l d O ' H a r a ( T h o m a s Mitchell). Being the most resolute and manipulative
amongst the O'Hara daughters, Scarlett is taught all the secrets of trade by her father. She is taught the importance of land, which is the only significant asset to people belonging to those times. Scarlett sets her heart upon Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard) who is about to marry her soft-spoken and modest sister Melanie Hamilton (Olivia De Havilland). Ashley admits to having liked Scarlett but he chooses her sister over her as he believes that she's a better suitor for him and would make a fine wife for himself. Despite knowing everything, Melainie holds onto both the relations and preserves them. Thereafter, Scarlett bumps into Rhett butler (Clark Gable) on the very first day of Civil War. Rhett is unruly and a real brute, which makes him a perfect match for the equally boisterous Scarlett. His attributes match her persona and romantic desires to the very
core. Scarlett's life took a spin after he came into her life. She changed from being vain and spoilt to a fine, refined woman of strong will and tenacity. Throughout the movie, the two protagonists exchange witty comebacks. The dialogues between them become engaging and intriguing at the same time. They constantly repel and attract each other and the chemistry between them is spectacular. Till the very end, Scarlett does not see through her actual feelings which were for Rhett and given to that, the hero who had fallen head over heels for the female protagonist, gives up on her.
The development of the movie is magnificent. The storyline captures a person emotionally. It depicts very well a tale of 'having loved and lost'. Visually, the movie touches excellence with the numerous breathtaking shots and panoramic sceneries infused in it.

computer. All the files you keep inside this folder will be uploaded to the web silently through your computer and then they rest on the Dropbox servers, in an encrypted way of course. Thereafter, you can install Dropbox on various platforms – Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Blackberry or Android and can access all your files in your Dropbox folder from these devices. Besides, if you're at some public place and have none of the above mentioned devices, you can effortlessly access your files via the Dropbox website. But that's not the end of power Dropbox has. The real power Dropbox carries along is the
ability to share files with others. Dropbox allows one to share select sub-folders of the Dropbox folder with selected people. Like, consider there are three folders in your Dropbox folder – Personal, Home and Work. In this case, you can share your Work folder with your colleagues and Home folder with your friends. Not just that. Whenever there's any modification to a certain file, these modifications are applied to all other people's Dropbox with whom that folder is shared with. And though this feature m i g h t c o m e o u t a s i t ' s disadvantage, Dropbox makes it simple by giving you the ability
to access previous versions of any documents just in case if you found the modification not good enough! Dropbox has changed the way we share documents today and has eliminated the need of carrying around flash drives and emailing attachments. Dropbox gives you a free space of 2GB which is good enough for most people unless you plan on to put your entire music library or something like that out there for which, there are monthly paid options for 50GB and 100GB storage too. Sounds pretty interesting, doesn't it??G e t D r o p b o x t o d a y a t www.dropbox.com

Editorial Engineering Courses:Unnecessary Subjects & Zero Practical Knowledge
Sir John F. Kennedy once rightly said,
“Liberty without learning is always in peril; learning without liberty is always in vain.” It is obvious that education imparted via coercion would never help the cause. It is vital that students decide what they want to learn. Making a person who is interested in town planning, learn thermodynamics would make no sense. But after taking a quick glance at our education system – especially the engineering courses – people are forming a general consensus that our education system is flawed in many ways and one of the prime concerns is the curriculum that the system demands the students should follow.
The bachelor's program of engineering courses offered by the Gujarat Technological University - Gujarat's state-run university for technical courses – is divided into eight semesters across four years. The first two semesters remains the same for all the students irrespective of their chosen discipline. The first year students have to study twelve subjects ranging from workshop to Math to elements of various other engineering disciplines. It is intriguing to say the least.
Why not make students specialize from the first semester instead of making them learn these unnecessary subjects?
Basic knowledge, they say. But how would learning elements of electrical engineering help a mechanical engineering student? Or for that matter, how would perfecting Mechanics of Solids help a computer student?
And not just the Gujarat Technological University, but almost all Indian universities focus around subjects that can be easily skipped. If they are skipped, students could focus on the subjects of more importance pertaining to their branch. Unfortunately, that's not how it works today. Even the curriculum of the IITs – the premier technology institutes of the country – fails to make complete sense. Point in perspective here is, why not make the students learn everything concerning their disciplines, especially during the first year?
The entire first year of undergrad studies gets wasted, the students do not learn the fundamentals of their own discipline, and very easily lose interest in learning. They start hating the education system and somehow manage a bachelors and a job. Without a sound base, how would they solve real life problems – after all, solving real life problems is an engineer's fundamental job.
The flaws of the education system – unneeded focus on theoretical knowledge and making students learn subjects not related to their branch – have been getting on the nerves of engineering students lately. Editor in Chief, Rahul Bhagchandani, an engineering student himself, pens down his opinion on the current scenario.

Editorial chair, writing this piece won't bring even
a slightest change to the current
education system. Many will read this
article; some might comment that there's
a necessity to change the system. But most
of us fail to understand that the change
starts with us. Till then, we have to deal
with the fact and live with it – live with the
mediocrity when we have a chance to
cater the best.”
And with lack of practical knowledge
comes the problems with examinations. If
the focus has been on theories, exams will
emphasize on the same. Students will
only study theories – making the entire
system of examinations overrated for
engineers. The examination system, as
such unpopular with the masses today
gets more sluggish.
There are other issues with the education
system as well. And it's not just
engineering, the problem persists
everywhere. Education, unfortunately
has been commercialized, and all of us are
suffering as a result. Also, the Youth
Speak article on page 12, for example,
suggests how the entire education system
is built around a conspiracy and how it
has never been changed since the British
times.
Clearly, excluding a handful of people,
everyone is unhappy with the current
education system. Given the current pace
of development of the country, it will be
interesting to see how this particular
system develops.
One thing is for sure though, giving the
right to education won't help unless
you give the right education.
Bottom line is, the system – the
curriculum is making students learn
unnecessary subjects at the cost of their
careers. Does the system have a logical
explanation behind the implementation
of such a curriculum? They should have
one. But what surprises? Not a single soul
has ever t r ied to quest ion the
administrators about this problem. Moreover the engineering education
system, every now and then, has been
criticized for its many flaws. Too much
focus on theoretical thinking and lack of
practical knowledge hinders the progress
of a lot of students. And without practical
knowledge, we have more of a theorist
than an engineer in the making.
For example, one submission for Youth
Speak that we couldn't publish due to
space constraints has the title “Education
of Engineering Colleges in Gujarat – Noisy
Rather than Efficient”.

Observing this backlash, Sibal didn't waste a
