South West Chronic Disease Support Inc., will be staging its first major fundraising effort this Saturday when the volunteer group hosts a garage/plant/bake sale at the Legion Hall.
The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 6th, will feature a unique combination of goods. Garage sale, plants and bake sale goods will be available at the Legion as proceeds from the event will benefit the South West Chronic Disease Support initiative.
Anyone who wants to donate items to the event - whether it is garage sale or baked goods - can contact organizer Karen Helms at 306-297-7605. Volunteers will be accepting goods at the Legion Hall all day Friday until about 8 p.m.
About 50 planters of various sizes have been created for the sale which should help attract some added interest for the event.

Volunteers also plan to hold a hot dog barbecue lunch and visitors will have an opportunity to purchase homemade pie and coffee throughout the sale.
Committee representatives will also be setting up an informational table and they will be selling memberships for $10 each.
“Anyone who has any questions or wants to chat about our organization can look for the table with the blue table cloth,” said committee member Brenda Waldron.
“It should be a busy day,” she added. “I think we have everything organized, so now we just need for people to come out.”
The South West Chronic Disease Support, which was officially established near the end of 2016, was formed to provide financial assistance for seriously ill people in southwest Saskatchewan.
The region it covers will stretch south of the TransCanada Highway to the U.S. border and from Highway 4 to the Alberta Border and include communities such as Shaunavon, Eastend, Frontier, Gull Lake, Climax, Consul and others.
The idea for the organization was first initiated last March when local
residents started talking about a foundation to raise funds and disperse them to provide financial assistance to people needing to travel for medical reasons. The fund would be used to cover direct costs such as gas and accommodation, as well as offering financial support for other indirect bills such as child care.
The group isn’t looking to replace any initiatives that already exist, such as bank accounts that have been created to help someone facing an emergency health crisis or special events that are organized to raise funds on behalf of an individual.
The group is keen about making sure that any funds they raise stay in Southwest Saskatchewan.
The South West Chronic Disease Support Inc. is still looking to attract members from across the region to join the group. Ultimately, it wants to have representation from communities throughout the Southwest.
Anyone looking to get involved in the organization or wants more information can contact one of the organizing members, or by emailing [email protected].
