SASKATCHEWAN TO COVER NEW MS DRUGgov.ca - Saskatchewan multiple sclero-sis (MS) patients will soon have access to a new oral medication. Beginning May 1, 2014, the province will provide coverage of Tecfidera (dimethyl fuma-rate) to treat adult MS patients with relapsing-remitting MS who meet certain criteria. “MS patients and specialists have been asking for coverage of this medi-cation and our government is pleased to make it more accessible to those who need it,” Health Minister Dustin
Duncan said. “This option does not require injections, and has the poten-tial to improve the quality of life for MS patients by reducing the number of relapses they experience and slow-ing the progression of the disease.” MS is a neurological disease that im-pairs or destroys the function of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. About 3,700 Saskatchewan people are affected – a higher per capita rate than anywhere else in Canada. “The MS Society is very pleased with the news that Saskatchewan has given people living with MS in our province

access to another option to manage the effects of their disease,” MS So-ciety’s Saskatchewan Division Com-munication Manager Virginia Harp-er said. “With many new MS drugs coming on the market and offering a variety of ways they can be adminis-tered, we are happy the Ministry of Health continues to be responsive in the public listing of these new ther-apies. As always, we encourage all people living with MS to consult with their physician to find the course of treatment most appropriate for them.” Saskatchewan is the first province among pan-Canadian Pricing Alli-ance (PCPA) members to provide coverage. Quebec, which is not part of the PCPA, also covers the drug. Saskatchewan led the negotiations which recently resulted in a pricing agreement between the drug manu-facturer and provinces and territories. The PCPA capitalizes on the com-bined negotiating power of provinces and territories to obtain the best val-ue for Canadians. Tecfidera was ap-proved by Health Canada for use by MS patients in 2013. MS patients seeking more informa-tion are encouraged to talk with their physicians, or call the Saskatchewan MS Drugs Program at 306-655-8400. The amount a patient would pay per prescription will be determined by their level of coverage under the Sas-katchewan Drug Plan. Information on the Drug Plan’s Special Support Program is available online at www.health.gov.sk.ca/special-support or at 1-800-667-7581 (toll free) or 1-306-787-3317 (Regina).

FOR RELEASE WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30, 2014
BY FRANCIS DRAKE
What kind of day will tomorrow be? To find out what the stars say, read the fore-cast given for your birth sign.
For Thursday, May 1, 2014ARIES(March 21 to April 19)This is an interesting day with new
faces and new places. Spontaneous shorttrips are likely; and your mind is buzzingwith bright ideas!
TAURUS(April 20 to May 20)You might have clever moneymaking
ideas today; however, do keep an eye onyour cash and your possessions. If shop-ping, keep your receipts and count yourchange.
GEMINI(May 21 to June 20)Today the Moon is in your sign danc-
ing with unpredictable Uranus — thismakes you feel restless. You want excite-ment, but nothing too crazy.
CANCER(June 21 to July 22)It’s hard to settle down today because
your ruler the Moon is mildly disturbedby another planet and it is hidden in yourchart. This is very minor and will begone in a day.
LEO(July 23 to Aug. 22)A female friend might surprise you
today. Or, alternatively, you might meeta female acquaintance who is bizarre orunorthodox. It’s not a boring day!
VIRGO(Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)Conversations with authority figures,
especially females, will be unpredictabletoday. Someone might say somethingthat excites or offends you. (Don’t quityour day job.) In any case, it will likelybe a positive exchange.
LIBRA(Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)Unexpected travel plans might fall in
your lap today. Similarly, a chance totake a course or study something newand stimulating could come your way.
© 2014 King Features Syndicate, Inc.
SCORPIO(Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)Keep in touch with your bank account
and details about shared property, because a few surprises are possibletoday. Fortunately, they look like posi-tive issues. (Fingers crossed.)
SAGITTARIUS(Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)Because the Moon today is opposite
your sign, you will have to go more thanhalfway when dealing with others. Thisis no big deal. Easy peasey for someSagittarians, who are so friendly andbreezy.
CAPRICORN(Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)Your work routine will be unpre-
dictable today, perhaps because of com-puter crashes, electronic glitches orequipment breakdowns. Or someoneunexpected may change your day.
AQUARIUS(Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)This is a mildly accident-prone day for
your kids so parents should be extra vig-ilant. However, it’s a productive day forartists and anyone working on creativeprojects.
PISCES(Feb. 19 to March 20)Minor breakages could occur or small
appliances might break down today.Surprise company might knock on thedoor. Expect the unexpected!

You are a realist who takes a keeninterest in the world around you. Thisyear you will have opportunities forgrowth and a chance to start to boostyour finances for the next three years.Reduce your debt. All your relationshipswill improve. Bonus!

A record-breaking wave of tornadoes begins across the southern and midwestern United States on this day in 2003. By the time the wave is over, more than 500 tornadoes are recorded for the month, shattering the previous record by more than 100. The amazing spate of twisters followed an unusually quiet month of April, when tornadoes are usually most frequent. March and April also saw a lack of significant thunderstorms, another highly unusual situation. But the residents of the South and Midwest were not in the clear. In 2003, the moist, warm air necessary for the formation of tornadoes did not arrive from the Gulf of Mexico until May and, when it did, weather conditions in these regions changed suddenly. The first 10 days of May brought an incredible amount of destructive weather to the central United States, including more than 300 tornadoes. The best available records regarding tornadoes in the second half of the 20th century show that the previous high for tornadoes in a month was 399 in June 1992. May 2003 had a remarkable 516 recorded twisters. However, the 38 people killed in May 2003 were far fewer than the record 163 dead in May 1953. The death toll was lower because 2003 saw no F5 tornadoes (the highest intensity with winds in excess of 260 mph) and very few measured as high as F4 (with winds in excess of 207 mph). Illinois alone had 74 recorded tornadoes in May 2003, almost 50 percent more than its previ-ous monthly high. Missouri suffered through 71 twisters in the month, which dwarfed the pervious high of 29 in De-cember 1982. The worst stretch of tornadoes over a small stretch of time was recorded April 3-4, 1974, when 148 individual torna-does touched down across the Midwest in an 18-hour period. During a single hour in the middle of this vast storm, 20 tornadoes were recorded at the same time. More than 300 people died in this single storm.
An enthusiastic door-to-door vacuum salesman goes to the first house in his new territory. He knocks, a real mean and tough looking lady opens the door, and before she has a chance to say anything, he runs inside and dumps cow patties all over the carpet. He says, “Lady, if this vacuum cleaner don’t do wonders cleaning this up, I’ll eat every chunk of it.” She turns to him with a smirk and says, “You want ketchup on that?” The salesman says, “Why do you ask?” She says, “We just moved in and we haven’t got the electricity turned on yet.”

SASKATCHEWAN’S 2014 BIG GAME DRAW OPENS MAY 1 (today)gov.ca - The big game draw will open on May 1, 2014. Hunters must have their big game draw applications completed before midnight of May 31, 2014 when the draw closes. “The big game draw is a much-anticipated event each year and continues to grow in popularity,” Environment Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. “The number of hunt-ers applying for Saskatchewan’s most favourable hunting opportunities has increased significantly over the last 10 years. Hunters are advised to review all available draw opportunities and past draw results to assist in making their selections. Good luck to all applicants.” All hunters applying for the draw are required to provide their Hunting, Angling and Trapping Licence identification number (HAL ID). Registration for a HAL ID is a one-time requirement; if hunters have purchased a 2013 or 2014 angling, hunting or fur licence, or applied for the 2013 draw, they already have been assigned a HAL number. Hunters can get their HAL ID, and apply for a licence several ways:• online at www.saskatchewan.ca/huntinganglinglicences;• through private licence issuers, ministry offices and select provincial park offices; or• by phone at 1-855-848-4773 between 8 am and 9 pm. Hunters requiring assistance with their identification can call 1-855-848-4773 to ensure they do not create a second account. Licences will not be mailed to successful applicants. All awarded big game draw licences will be available through the automated licence system on the individual hunt-er’s HAL account. Hunters are reminded that wildlife management zones (WMZs) now follow easi-ly identifiable features such as provincial highways, municipal roads or major water bodies where possible. Available WMZs, season dates, bag limits and quotas may have changed from previous years. Big game draw participants are encouraged to famil-iarize themselves with the new map and 2014 Saskatchewan Resident Big Game Draw Supplement before they submit their applications. The 2014 Saskatchewan Resident Big Game Draw Supplement and the new WMZ boundary map are available at www.saskatchewan.ca/hunting.A complete listing of licence issuers is available at www.saskatchewan.ca/huntingan-glinglicences.

A wise old gentleman retired and purchased a modest home near a junior high school. He spent the first few weeks of his retirement in peace and contentment. Then a new school year began. The very next afternoon three young boys, full of youthful, after-school enthusiasm, came down his street, beating merrily on every trashcan they encountered. The crashing percussion continued day after day, until finally the wise old man decided it was time to take some action. The next afternoon, he walked out to meet the young percussionists as they banged their way down the street. Stopping them, he said, “You kids are a lot of fun. I like to see you express your exuberance like that. In fact, I used to do the same thing when I was your age. Will you do me a favor? I’ll give you each a dollar if you’ll promise to come around every day and do your thing.” The kids were elated and continued to do a bang-up job on the trashcans. After a few days, the old-timer greeted the kids again, but this time he had a sad smile on his face. “This recession’s really putting a big dent in my income,” he told them. “From now on, I’ll only be able to pay you 50 cents to beat on the cans.” The noisemakers were obviously displeased, but they did accept his offer and continued their afternoon ruckus. A few days later, the wily retiree approached them again as they drummed their way down the street. “Look,” he said, “I haven’t received my Social Security check yet, so I’m not going to be able to give you more than 25 cents. Will that be okay?” “A lousy quarter?” the drum leader exclaimed. “If you think we’re going to waste our time, beating these cans around for a quarter, you’re nuts! No way, mister. We quit!” And the old man enjoyed peace.
