dayoff. Twelve times the typical flow is estimated to arrive on the South Saskatchewan River and pour into Lake Diefenbaker. “The influx coming into Lake Diefenbaker from Alberta is some-thing we haven’t seen in 100 years,” said Cheveldayoff. Increases in the outflow from Lake Diefenbaker -- a manmade reservoir -- have been activated in order to anticipate the record flows. “These outflows will result in

some out-of-bank flooding of agri-cultural land downstream of Lake Diefenbaker and may affect munic-ipal infrastructure near the river,” said the Water Security Agency in a statement. The increases will result in a two meter rise of the South Saskatche-wan River. Wayne Dybvig, president of the Water Security Agency, said some Saskatoon berry farms and some trails along the South Saskatche-wan River will be flooded due to
increased outflows. Dybvig says they don’t expect any homes in the Saskatoon region to be endangered. Authorities are concerned for Cumberland House, a community on the Saskatchewan River where the North and South Saskatchewan Rivers meet. The community has been notified and evacuations have begun. The South Saskatchewan River is estimated to peak on today.

There was a man driving a pickup truck down a country road, when suddenly he was broad sided by a trailer truck. Some time went by, and the case got to court. The defense attor-ney said to the plaintiff, “How can you be suing my client now when you told a trooper after the accident that you felt fine?” The man replied, “Well sir, it was like this. We was drivin’ down the road, mindin’ our own business, when a big trailer truck came out of nowhere and creamed us. When I came to, I was in the ditch, and a trooper was pullin’ up with his car. He looked at the hogs, and they was ‘most dead, so he shot ‘em. Then he looked at my dog, and he was hurt real bad, so he shot him. Then he came over to me and he said, ‘How you feeling?’” “I said, I never felt better in my life.”

What kind of day will tomorrow be? To find out what the stars say, read the fore-cast given for your birth sign. P
For Monday, June 24, 2013ARIES(March 21 to April 19)Don’t push your luck today when talk-
ing to parents, bosses, teachers, VIPs orthe police. Authority figures will likelyrespond with, “Talk to the hand.” (Ohdear.)
TAURUS(April 20 to May 20)This continues to be a tricky day with
others. Avoid controversial subjects.Expect delays and obstacles with traveland anything related to higher education, medicine and the law.
GEMINI(May 21 to June 20)This is not a good day to ask for
money or help from others. Just battendown the hatches and go into survivalmode. Things will improve later thisweek.
CANCER(June 21 to July 22)Although your focus is on partners and
close friends, communications are poortoday. Postpone important discussionsfor about 48 hours. (You’ll be glad youdid.)
LEO(July 23 to Aug. 22)Focus on being cooperative at work
today because in fact, many people areobstinate and disagreeable. Don’t jointhe crowd. Take the high road. (Why dootherwise?)
VIRGO(Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)Romance is a bit rocky today. In fact,
sports events, relations with children andsocial occasions are all prone to disputesand tense discussions. Easy does it.
LIBRA(Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)Relations with family members are a
bit tense today. Knowing this, avoidtouchy subjects. Do not wake the sleep-ing dragon.

SCORPIO(Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)Some days communications flow eas-
ily and some days they don’t. This is oneof the days when they don’t. No biggie –just be aware of this.
SAGITTARIUS(Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)This is a poor day to enter into dis-
putes about finances, possessions andshopping choices. People are not in themood to compromise or agree. (Just soyou know.)
CAPRICORN(Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)It’s difficult talking to friends and
partners today because things feel stiffand repressed. Conversations are liketwo ships passing in the night. Oh well.
AQUARIUS(Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)This is not the day to air repressed
grievances, especially at work. It won’tgo over well. Later this week, you’llhave an opportunity to do so. After all, timing is everything.
PISCES(Feb. 19 to March 20)Discussions with others, especially
females, are repressed and stilted today.Don’t worry about this because it will begone in a few days. Just cope as best youcan and avoid controversial subjects.

10th of 10 Common Sayings with Historical originsBy Evan Andrews
Although you might not know it, you probably quote history on a daily basis. The English language is filled with idioms, sayings and bits of slang that are derived from historical events and legends. While the connections are sometimes obvious, other phrases have become so commonplace that most speakers probably never stop to consider their source. Find out more about the unusual origin stories behind 10 everyday phrases.
10. the third degreeThere are several tales about the origin of “the third degree,” a saying commonly used for long or arduous interrogations. One theory argues the phrase relates to the various degrees of murder in the criminal code; yet another credits it to Thomas F. Byrnes, a 19th-century New York City policeman who used the pun “Third Degree Byrnes” when describing his hardnosed ques-tioning style. In truth, the saying is most likely derived from the Freemasons, a centuries-old fraternal organization whose members undergo rigorous questioning and examinations before becoming “third degree” members, or “master masons.”

SaSk. SchoolS Stick to teaching handwriting
ctv.ca - Saskatchewan is holding strong on teaching children hand-writing in school. Many U.S. states, as well as Ontario and Quebec, have taken cursive writ-ing out of their curriculum. Tim Caleval with the Ministry of Education says there are no plans to discontinue teaching cursive writing to Grade 3 students, and they haven’t had any calls to stop teaching it. Arguments for getting rid of cur-sive writing include people don’t use handwriting very much anymore, so it’s not really necessary. But Caleval says there is research that has found cursive writing helps students become better readers. He also says there are studies that have found students are better able to recognize written language when they are taught cursive writing.

beginnerA retiree was given a set of golf clubs by his co-workers. Thinking he’d try the game, he asked the local pro for lessons, explaining that he knew nothing whatever of the game. The pro showed him the stance and swing, then said, “Just hit the ball toward the flag on the first green.” The novice teed up and smacked the ball straight down the fairway and onto the green, where it stopped inches from the hole.“Now what?” the fellow asked the speechless pro. After he was able to speak again the pro finally said, “Uh... you’re supposed to hit the ball into the cup.”“Oh great! NOW you tell me,” said the beginner in a disgusted tone.
