Wine was discovered about 6,000 years ago in either Mesopotamia, Palestine/Israel or what is now called Georgia.

The process of wine making has been refined over thousands of years with the cross-breeding of grapes and discoveries about how climate affects them.

Almost all wine grapes produce clear juice. Red wines get their color from the skins, which are included in the mix when a red wine is fermented. White wines usually are fermented only from juice. Pink wines typically are made from starting a fermentation with red wine juice and skins, then removing the partially fermented wines from the skins after a short period.

Wines that have corks in them should always be stored in such a way that the cork stays moist—on their sides or upside down. All wines also should be keep in moderate temperatures and somewhere where there is little variation in that temperature.

Fun Facts About Wine

The term “moonshine” was actually brought to this country by British settlers who used it to describe various tasks that had to be done at night.

The Secret of XXX—If you’re old enough to remem-ber the Beverly Hillbillies, you already know that the designation “XXX” on a jug says there’s moonshine in it. But what does it mean? It means the shine has been run through the still three times so it’s almost pure alcohol.

Hard-core NASCAR fans are probably already aware that their beloved sport goes back to the bootleg-ging days of 1920s. Eventually someone got the bright idea of racing those cars on a track and stock car racing was born.

When it comes out of the still the final time it is crystal clear and anywhere between 150 and 170 proof.
