I recently started a new project at home. Someone gave me as a gift an old motorcycle. I have always had a dream of building a European style café racer. I have found myself in between all of my different responsibilities trying to squeeze a few minutes here and there to work on the project. It had me thinking about my attitude toward God. The word “devotion” has many meanings but one of them is “the fact or state of being ardently dedicated and loyal.” As I reflected on my devotion to my little side project I also began to think of the early church in Acts 2:41-47 where it says, “They devoted themselves to apostles teaching, and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayers.”(NRSV) What do you find yourself devoted to? Do you have things that bring you joy to do them? But the real question is do you have that same level of devotion to God’s call in your life? St. Paul's Will Host Family PromiseFebruary 11-18, 2018

St. Paul's will provide overnight lodging, meals, and hospitality forthe week of Feb. 11-18 for up to three families (no more than 14persons) who are homeless. Who are thehomeless? People! Children, mothers fathers, elderly people just likeyou. A mother loses her job, a father is injured and unable to work, a

family's car breaks down. Jobs are difficult to find, healthcare costs soar, public transportation is underfunded, affordable housing is very difficult to obtain. There are many reasons beyond their control thatfamilies may become homeless. Here's how you can get involved: Prepare a meal (or part of a meal); serve a meal; play a game with achild; read a book with a child; tutor a student; talk to a parent; stay overnight; share kindness! If you would like to be involved in this caring ministry contact Kate Buroker (362-

Celebrating Suzanne, February 13We will be celebrating Suzanne Rever’s time with us with a ‘come-and-go’ event on Tuesday, February13 from 11:45 am-1:00 pm in the Parlor.

We know meetings are important, but sometimes we just have to put the agendas away so we can catchour breath. Reflection and time together can make that possible.

During Lent we want to invite you to participate in a church-wide study on Wednesdays, starting onFebruary 21st. During this time we will discuss Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s short, yet important, book LifeTogether. Join us either from 2-3 pm or 6-7:15 pm on Wednesdays in the Youth Room (room 110).

Books can be purchased by signing up on the sheet that is available in the office and after worshipservices the next few weeks.

Lenten Study begins February 14“God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like thebodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s controlover us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.” Romans 8:3 (NLT)

As we move away from the seasons of Advent and Christmas, when God senthis own Son to Earth to live among us, and move toward the seasons of Lentand Easter, when that same Son became a sacrifice for our sins, the AdultSpiritual Formation team encourages each of you to consider how you willdeepen your relationship with God and enhance your understanding of whatChrist’s death on the cross means for us today.

To assist you during your Lenten journey, we are offering a five session, DVD-based study from MaxLucado entitled He Chose the Nails: What God Did to Win Your Heart. Max says, “Every gift from Godreveals his love, but no gift reveals his love more than the gifts of the cross.” This would be a good studyfor existing small groups and Sunday school classes and also an excellent opportunity to start a newsmall group, if you’ve been feeling God nudge you toward facilitating. It would be wonderful to haveseveral new small groups meeting throughout the week to share in this study. We do, however, encourageeveryone to keep Wednesday afternoons or evenings during Lent open for a pastor-led study that will beannounced soon.

The materials (the DVD and leader’s study guide) for He Chose the Nails are available to preview. Lentbegins on Wednesday, February 14th, so small group sign-ups will begin soon. Look for moreinformation in future Outlooks, as well as before and after worship services. If you have any questions, want to sign-up your existing group/class or want to facilitate a new group, contact April Campbell [email protected] or 319-521-2074.
