YOUR WEDDING IN THE HEART OF SCOTT’S COUNTRY

Set above the murmuring waters of the River Tweed, nestled in a secluded spot amidst the

rolling hills of the Scottish Borders, lies Abbotsford; magical and historic home of Sir Walter Scott,

the Wizard of the North.

This stunning location provides the ideal setting for you and your guests to celebrate your

wedding. There are a number of choices of where to hold your ceremony, from the dignified

grandeur of Scott’s library, to our exquisite gardens or the intimate simplicity of the family chapel.

Luxury accommodation is at hand in the elegantly furnished Hope Scott Wing, allowing you to

prepare for your special day in quiet calm and to end it in lavish comfort.

Our experienced Wedding Coordinator is on hand to realise your romantic vision, and the

natural beauty of the gardens and grounds provides a unique stage to capture the moment on

film so that the memories can last a lifetime.

Scott was the consummate storyteller, and Abbotsford was built on the proceeds of his literary

triumphs, making it the perfect place to begin your own tale…

YOUR CEREMONY

SIR WALTER SCOTT’S LIBRARY

Completed in 1824 and, to many, the most iconic room at

Abbotsford, Scott’s magnificent library borrows elements from

Rosslyn Chapel and adds the author’s flair for the unique to create

a truly memorable space for your ceremony.

You will exchange your vows in this edifice to the written word,

which is home to Scott’s personal collection of over 7,000 volumes,

and has stunning views over the River Tweed.

CHINESE DRAWING ROOM

If the library was Scott’s domain, then the drawing room belonged

to his beloved wife, Charlotte. Over the generations, this room has

resounded with music and laughter in equal measure, and shares

the wonderful Tweed views with the library.

The exquisite Cantonese wallpaper that gives this room its name

depicts the Five Blessings of Health, Luck, Happiness, Long-Life, and

Wealth, providing a truly felicitous backdrop to your ceremony.

THE FAMILY CHAPEL

For those seeking a Catholic ceremony, the simple intimacy of

our historic family chapel provides the perfect setting for your

special day.

Built for Charlotte and James Hope Scott in 1855, it was used for

private worship by the family as recently as 2004. It is still used to

celebrate mass today.

THE GARDENS

For an outdoor wedding, nowhere is more romantic than

Abbotsford’s immaculate gardens. Conceived during the Regency

period and designed as ‘outdoor rooms’, the gardens offer a

tranquil and beautiful space for you to exchange your vows amidst

the scent of flowers and the soft buzzing of the occasional bee,

all overlooked by Abbotsford’s iconic East façade.

THE ACCOMMODATION

Marriage is a time of family celebration, and Abbotsford’s Hope Scott Wing provides you with

The wing forms part of the extensions made to the main house in the middle of the

nineteenth century by Scott’s granddaughter, Charlotte Hope Scott, and her husband James.

The rooms within retain all the style and beauty of the period, whilst having been seamlessly

adapted to modern living. Seven sumptuous bedrooms, six with en-suite bathrooms, provide

flexible, elegantly furnished spaces to accommodate your wedding party.

The dining room, with its views of the Tweed, is ideal for rehearsal dinners or family feasts alike.

Your home away from home during your time at Abbotsford is tastefully decorated with

artwork and furniture from the family collection. Striking the perfect balance between antique
