Clearing Catch BasinsWe need your help! In the fall, City crews are busyclearing the debris and leaves from the roads and catchbasins. Unfortunately if our crews are unable to reachevery one and drains are clogged, the water will floodthe streets and in some instances may affect privateproperty. Therefore we ask for the public’s assistance inchecking catch basins outside their homes and clearingthem of leaves and debris. This is especially importantafter snowfalls when the snow begins to melt. Pleasetake a few moments to check and clear the catch basinsnear your home if our crews have not reached them yet.

Go GreenFood Isn’t Garbage.Food will be banned from garbage throughoutMetro Vancouver starting in 2015. In PittMeadows, we have curbside pickup of greenwaste, so be sure your food waste goes inyour green cart! When food and other organicmaterials end up in the garbage they:• End up buried under layers of waste in thelandfill and can’t decompose properly, creatingmethane, a greenhouse gas that adds to globalwarming.
• Use up a lot of precious landfill space. Over30% of what we send to the landfill in ourregion is compostable organics.•Waste all the resources (energy, water, etc.)
that went into producing the food.
