If You a re travelling to Europe (all EU
cou ntries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein,

a n d take it with You when You travel. This
w ill allow You to benefit from the reciprocal
h ea lth arrangements, which exist with these
cou ntries and, if You have a valid Claim for
Medical Expenses under this Policy, We will
n ot deduct the Excess where the cost of
You r Claim has been reduced by You
u sing Your EHIC.

Thank you for choosing Chubb Travel Insurance.
Th is is Your Policy Wording which, together with Your Certificate of In surance and the
in formation supplied when applying for this insurance, is a contract between You and Us.
Cov er provided under this Policy is underwritten by Chubb European Group SE, (We/Us).
Th is Policy pays benefits, in accordance with this Policy Wording, in the ev ent that You need
to ca ncel Your T rip before it begins, or You:
• su ffer illness or injury; or
• a r e delayed en r oute; or
• su ffer Loss or damage to Your Personal Property , Mon ey or Bu siness
Equ ipment
w h ilst on a Trip.
Th is Policy does not cov er:
• a ny pre-existing medical conditions; or
• m anual work of a ny description; or
• a ny Trip where Winter Sports is the main reason for Your trip.
You (a s specified in the Certificate of In surance) and Chubb agree that You shall pay the
pr emium as agreed. The Certificate of In surance and this Policy Wording prov ide the full
terms and conditions of the insurance with Us. You acknowledge that We have offered this
Policy and set the premium using the information which We have asked for and You have
pr ov ided, and that any change to the r esponses prov ided by You may r esult in a change in the
terms and conditions of the Policy and/or a change in the premium.
You sh ould check ov er the Policy Wording and Certificate of In surance carefully to ensure
th ey are correct and meet Your requirements, and notify Us immediately, if anything is
in correct, as this could a ffect Policy cov er in the ev ent of a Claim. You should keep these
documents in a safe place. You must tell Us if either Your insurance n eeds or any of the
in formation You have g iven Us changes. A change in circumstances may affect Policy cov er,
ev en if You do n ot think a change is significant, and We may n eed t o change this Policy. We
w ill update the Policy a nd issue a new Certificate of In surance each time a change is agreed.

Th ere are certain Conditions and Ex clusions
w h ich apply to a ll sections of this Policy, and
th ese are detailed on pages 27 to 28 and 32
to 3 4 in this Policy Wording.
Persons Covered
A ll Persons Insured on this Policy
m ust be:
1 . permanently r esident in the United
Kingdom and be in the United
Kingdom a t the t ime of purchasing
th is Policy; and
2 . 6 4 years of age or under a t the t ime of
pu r chasing this Policy.
Policy Definitions
Cer tain words in this Policy have a specific
m eaning. They have this specific meaning
w h erever they appear in this Policy and are
sh own by using bold text and capital letters.
A ll Policy definitions are a pplicable to this
Policy as a whole, and are detailed on pages
3 5 to 37 in this Policy Wording.
Children
Ch ildren will only be cov ered when they
a r e travelling with an a dult named under
Person (s) Insured on the
Cer tificate of In surance.
Trips Covered
A T rip A broad during the Period of
Insu rance that takes place entirely within
th e Area of Travel stated in the Certificate of
In su rance, as long a s You h ave booked a
r eturn flight to Your country of or igin
befor e you depart for Your T rip.
Trips Not Covered
We w ill not cov er any T rip
• w h ich involves manual work of a ny
description;
• w h ere Winter Sports is the main
r ea son for Your trip;
• w h ich involves You travelling on
a Cru ise;
• w h ich involves You travelling
specifically to obtain medical, dental or
cosm etic treatment;
• w h en You have been a dvised not to
tr avel by Your Doctor or You have
r eceived a terminal prognosis;
• w h ere, on the date it is booked (or
commencement of the Period of
Insu rance if later), You or Your
T ravelling Com panion are aware of
a ny reason why it might be cancelled
or Cu rtailed, or any other
cir cumstance that could reasonably be
ex pected to r esult in a Claim under
th is Policy;
• in v olving travel to areas where the
For eign and Commonwealth Office has
a dv ised against ‘all travel’. If You are
n ot sure whether there is a travel
w a rning for Your destination, please
ch eck their website

The Cover We Provide
Th e maximum amount We w ill pay under
ea ch Section that applies is detailed in the
Ta ble of Benefits on page 7 in this
Policy Wording.

When Y ou Are Covered
1 . Ca n cellation cov er under Section 1
beg ins when a T rip is booked, or from
th e commencement date and time
sta ted in the Certificate of In surance,
w h ichever is later. It ends when You
sta rt Your T rip.
2. In su rance cover under all other
Sect ions operates for a Trip that takes
pla ce during the Period of
Insu rance .
When Cover Will End Automatically
A ll cover will end when the Period of
Insu rance ends.
Automatic Extension of the Period of Insurance
If You cannot r eturn home from a Trip
befor e Your cov er ends, Your policy will
a u tomatically be extended at n o extra
ch arge for:
• u p to 14 days if any Public
T ransport in which You are booked
to tr avel as a ticket-holding passenger
is u n expectedly delayed, cancelled or
Cu rtailed because of A dverse
Wea ther, industrial a ction, or
m echanical breakdown; or
• u p to 30 days (or any longer period
a g reed by Us in writing before this
a u tomatic extension expires) if You
ca nnot return h ome Du e T o:
You being injured or becoming
ill or being quarantined during
a T rip.
You being required to stay on
m edical adv ice with another
Person Insured named on
You r Certificate of In surance
w h o is injured or becomes ill or is
qu a rantined during a T rip.
Leisure Activities and Sports
You a re automatically covered when
pa r ticipating in any of the leisure a ctivities
or spor ts listed in this section, on a
r ecreational basis during Your Trip,
su bject to any prov isions, limitations or
ex clusions noted by the relevant sport or
a ct ivity and prov ided that:
1 . You h ave not been advised by a
Doct or a gainst participating in such
spor t or a ctivity;
2. You w ear the r ecommended/
r ecognised safety equipment;
3. You follow safety procedures, rules
a n d regulations a s specified by the
a ct ivity organisers/prov iders;
4. You a re n ot racing or competing in or
pr a ctising for speed or t ime trials of
a ny kind; and
5. It is n ot the main r eason for
You r Trip.

du r ing Your T rip A broad. Please make
su r e You have details of this Policy, in cluding the Policy Number and Period of
Insu rance when You call.

Medical Emergency and Referral Services
If You a re injured or become ill Abroad You must contact Chubb A ssistance immediately if You n eed hospital in-pa t ient treatment, specialist treatment, m edical tests, scans or to be brought back to th e United Kingdom .
If You cannot do this yourself, You must a r range for a personal r epresentative (for ex ample, a spouse or parent) to do this for You . If this is not possible because You r condition is serious, You or Your per sonal representative must contact Ch u bb Assistance as soon a s possible.
If Ch u bb Assistance are not contacted, We m ay reject Your Claim or r educe its pa y ment.
In a ll other circumstances You are en t itled to use the services of Chubb A ssistance detailed in this section, as a ppropriate.
Ch u bb Assistance - Medical Emergency
a n d Referral Services can help with:
A. Pa y ment of bills - if You are admitted
to h ospital Abroad, the hospital or
a t tending Doctor(s) will be contacted
a n d payment of their fees up to the
Policy limits may be guaranteed so that
You do n ot have to make the payment
fr om Your own funds.
B. Bein g brought back to the United
Kingdom - if the Doctor a ppointed
by Chubb A ssistance believes
tr eatment in the United Kingdom is
pr eferable, transfer may be arranged
by regular scheduled transport
serv ices, or by a ir or road ambulance
serv ices if more urgent treatment
a n d/or specialist care is required
du r ing the Trip.
C. Pr ov ision of medical advice –
i) if You r equire emergency
con sultation or treatment
A broad, Chubb Assistance
w ill provide the names and
a ddresses of local Doct ors,
h ospitals, clinics and dentists,
a n d its panel of Doct ors will
pr ov ide telephone medical
a dv ice.
ii) if n ecessary Chubb A ssistance
w ill make arrangements for a
Doct or to call, or for You to be
a dmitted to hospital.
D. Un supervised Children - if a Ch ild is
left unsupervised on a T rip Abroad
because You are h ospitalised or
in capacitated, Chubb A ssistance
m ay organise their return home,
in cluding a suitable escort when n ecessary.
Plea se n ote that whilst You will n ot be
ch arged for advice or a ssistance, You will be
r esponsible for paying fees and charges for
serv ices prov ided to You if they are not cov ered as part of a valid Claim under this
Policy .
Personal Assistance Services
• Th e services under this Section are
pr ov ided by Chubb A ssistance and
a r e only available during a
T rip Abroad.
• Th ese are non-insured facilitation
serv ices making use of Chubb
A ssistance’s wide experience and
con tacts. Any costs incurred, for
ex ample for message r elay, must be
r eimbursed to Chubb Assistance
u n less they form part of a successful
Cla im under an a ppropriate Section of
th is Policy.
Ch u bb Assistance – Personal Assistance
Serv ices can help with:
A. T ransfer of em ergency funds
Tr ansfer of emergency funds up to
£2 50 per T rip if access to normal
fin ancial/ banking arrangements are
n ot av ailable locally. In order to
r eimburse Chubb A ssistance You
m ust authorise Chubb A ssistance to
debit Your credit or charge card with
th e amount of the transfer, or make
a lternative arrangements to deposit
th e funds in Chubb Assistance’s
a ccount in the United Kingdom . If
th e emergency transfer is n eeded Du e

T o th eft or Loss of personal money, a
Cla im may be made under the Policy.
B. Messa ge relay
Tr ansmission of urgent messages to
r elatives or business associates if
m edical or travel problems disrupt a
T rip travel schedule.
C. Replacement travel documents
A ssistance with the r eplacement of
Lost or stolen t ickets and travel
documents, and r eferral to suitable
tr avel offices. Chubb Assistance will
n ot pay for any item.
D. Em ergency translation facility
A translation service if the local
pr ov ider of a n assistance service does
n ot speak English.
E. Lega l h elp
Refer ral to a local English speaking
La wyer, Embassy or Consulate if legal
a dv ice is n eeded, and arrangement of
pa y ment of reasonable emergency
leg al expenses or bail, a gainst a
g u arantee of repayment.

Section 1 - Cancellation
What is covered
We w ill refund Your proportion of unused
tr avel and/or accommodation costs up to
th e amount stated in the Table of Benefits
(in cluding excursions pre-booked and paid
for before starting Your T rip), which You
h av e paid or are contracted to pay and
w h ich cannot be recov ered from any other
sou r ce if it becomes necessary to cancel a
T rip Du e T o:
1 . You or Your Travelling
Com panion(s)
A. dy ing; or
B. su ffering serious injury; or
C. su ffering sudden or serious
illness; or
D. su ffering from complications in
pr egnancy if incurred in a n
em ergency as a r esult of
com plications (where such
com plications are diagnosed by a
Doct or w ho specialises in
obstetrics); or
E. being compulsorily quarantined
on th e or ders of a
t r eating Doct or;
pr ov ided that such cancellation is
con firmed a s medically necessary by
th e treating Doctor.
2. You r Immediate Family Member
or Close Bu siness Colleague or
You r Travelling Companion’s
Im m ediate Family Member or
Close Bu siness Colleague or
som eone You have arranged to stay
w ith on Your Trip:
A. dy ing; or
B. su ffering serious injury; or

Doct or w ho specialises in
obstetrics);
pr ov ided that such reasons for
ca ncellation are confirmed
by a Doct or.

follow ing a burglary or attempted
bu rglary at Your or Your Travelling
Com panion’s home.
4. ser ious fire storm or flood damage to
You r or Your Travelling
Com panion’s home, provided that
su ch damage occurs within the 7 days
immediately prior to commencement

tr adespeople, traders, members of a
liberal profession, directors or legal
r epresentatives of a company. This
h oliday leave, corresponding to an
en t itlement, must have previously
been agreed by the employer prior to
booking the travel.

u pon whom Your Trip depends
for w hich they are being
pr escribed regular medication by
a Doct or a t the date Your Trip
w a s booked (or commencement
of th e Period of Insurance if
la ter), and which could result in

v isual, video, photographic, computer equ ipment and samples) if it is Lost, stolen or damaged.
B. Bu sin ess equipment h ire
If bu siness equipment (limited to audio, v isual, video, photographic, computer equ ipment and samples) held by You for bu siness reasons is Lost, stolen or da maged, You will be cov ered for the r ea sonable cost of hiring replacement equ ipment up to the amount stated in th e Table of Ben efits.
Special Conditions
1 . For temporary Loss, a s well as getting a n authorised “ property irregularity r eport” from the carrier or handling a g ent, You must also write to them w ithin 21 days of r eceiving Your pr operty back to confirm You had to buy r eplacement items.
2. If You r business equipment is n ever fou n d and We agree to pay for permanent Loss, We will take off any a m ount We have a lready paid for temporary Loss.
3. You must keep any damaged property so th at We can inspect it. When We m a ke a payment for replacement of that pr operty, it will then belong to Us.

Section 12 – Personal Liability
What is covered
We w ill cover You up to the Limit of
Lia bility stated in the Table of Benefits
a g ainst all sums which You are legally liable
to pay a s damages in respect of:
1 . a ccidental bodily injury (including
dea th illness or disease) to any person;
2. a ccidental loss of or damage to
m aterial property;
w h ich occurs during the Period of
Insu rance arising out of the Trip.
Th e maximum that We will pay under this
Sect ion for all damages as a result of any
on e occurrence or series of occurrences
a r ising directly or indirectly from one source
or or iginal cause shall be the Limit of
Lia bility stated in the Table of Benefits. We
w ill in addition pay Costs a nd Expenses.
Cost s a nd Expenses shall mean:
1 . a ll costs and expenses recov erable by a
cla imant from You;
2. a ll costs and expenses incurred with
Ou r written consent;
3. solicitors’ fees for representation at
a ny coroner’s inquest or fatal a ccident
in qu iry or in any Court of Summary
Ju r isdiction;
in r espect of a ny occurrence to which this
Sect ion applies – ex cept that in respect of
occurrences happening in or claims or legal
pr oceedings brought or originating in the
Un ited States of America and Canada or any
oth er territory within the jurisdiction of
either such country, Costs and Expenses
described in 1., 2., and 3. abov e are deemed
to be in cluded in the Limit of Liability for

Special Conditions
1 . We m ay at Ou r sole discretion in
r espect of any occurrence or
occurrences cov ered by this Section
pa y to You the Limit of Liability stated
in the Table of Benefits applicable to
su ch occurrence or occurrences (but
dedu cting therefrom any sum(s)
a lready paid) or any lesser sum for
w h ich the Claim(s) arising from such
occurrence(s) can be settled and We
sh a ll thereafter be under n o further
lia bility in r espect of such
occurrence(s) except for the payment
of Cost s a nd Expenses incurred
pr ior to the date of su ch payment and
for w hich We may be responsible

2. If a t the time of the happening of any

Cov er for any liability:

A. u n der a contract of service with

2. a ssumed by You under a contract or
a g reement unless such liability would

B. in You r care custody or control.

Section 13 – Overseas Legal Expenses

4. Ou r a uthorisation to incur Legal
Expenses will be g iven if You can
sa t isfy Us that:
A. th ere are r easonable grounds for
pu r suing or defending the Claim
or legal proceedings and the
Lega l Expenses will be
pr oportionate to the v alue of the
Cla im or legal proceedings; and
B. it is r easonable for Legal
Expenses to be prov ided in a
pa r ticular case. The decision to
g r ant authorisation will take into
a ccount the opinion of the Legal
Representatives a s well a s that
of Ou r ow n advisers. If there is a
dispute, We may request, a t
You r expense, an opinion of a

n om inated by the current President of
th e appropriate Law Society. The party

sh a ll meet the costs of the arbitration

w h ich We consider to be reasonable
in stead of continuing any Claim or
leg al proceedings for damages and/or
com pensation by a third party.
8. Wh ere settlement has been made to
You w ithout legal costs being
a pportioned, We will determine h ow
m uch of that settlement sh ould be
a pportioned to legal costs and
ex penses and paid to Us.
9. If a con flict of interest arises, where
We a r e also the insurers of the third
pa r ty or proposed defendant to the
Cla im or legal proceedings, You have
th e right to select and a ppoint other
Lega l Representatives in
a ccordance with the terms of this
In su rance.
10. If a t Your request Legal
Representatives cease to continue
a ct ing for You, We shall be entitled to

th at the prospects for success in

pr a ctices and/or financial regulations
of th e country in which the incident
occurred would preclude the obtaining
of a sa t isfactory settlement or the costs
of doin g so would be disproportionate
to th e value of the Claim.

Claim Conditions
Other Insurance
If, a t the t ime of a n incident which results in
a Cla im under this Policy, there is any other
in surance covering the same Loss, damage,
ex pense or liability, We are entitled to
a pproach that insurer for a contribution
tow ards the Claim, and will on ly pay Our
pr oportionate share. This condition does not
a pply to Section 3 – Hospital Benefit or
Sect ion 11 - Per sonal Accident of this Policy.
Recovering Our Claims Pay ments from Others
We a r e entitled to take ov er and carry out in
You r name the defence or settlement of any
leg al a ction. We may a lso take proceedings
a t Ou r own expense and for Our own
ben efit, but in Your name, to r ecov er any
pa y ment We have made under this Policy to
a ny one else.
Comply ing with Special Conditions
You must comply with the Special
Con ditions detailed in the r elevant Section
of th is Policy.
Supply ing Details & Documents
You must supply a t Your own expense any
in formation, ev idence and r eceipts We
r equ ire including medical certificates signed
by a Doct or, police r eports and
oth er reports.
Y our Duty to Avoid or Minimise a Claim
You a nd each Person Insured must take
or dinary and r easonable care to safeguard
a g ainst Loss, damage, Accident, injury or
illness as though You were not insured. If
We believe You have n ot taken reasonable
ca re of property, the Claim may n ot be
pa id. The items insured under this Policy
m ust be maintained in good condition.
Protecting Property
You must take all reasonable steps to
pr otect any item or property from further
Loss or da mage and to r ecov er any Lost or
stolen article.
Sending Us Legal Documents
You must send Us a ny or iginal writ,
su mmons, legal process or other
cor respondence received in connection with
a Cla im immediately when it is received
a n d without answering it.
Subrogation
We m ay take action in Your name to
r ecov er compensation or security for loss,
da mage or expenses covered by this
in surance. You w ill n ot have to pay
a ny thing towards this action but We will be
en t itled to retain some or all of a ny
a m ount recovered.
Things Y ou Must Not Do
You must not do the following without Our
w r itten agreement:
1 . a dmit liability, or offer or promise to
m a ke any payment; or
2. sell or otherwise dispose of a ny item or
pr operty for which a Claim is
being made
Recognising Our Rights
You a nd each Person Insured must
r ecognise Ou r right to:
1 . ch oose either to pay the amount of a
Cla im (less any Excess and up to any
Policy limit) or repair, replace or
r einstate any item or property that is
da maged, Lost or stolen;
2. in spect and take possession of any
item or property for which a Claim is
being made and handle any sa lvage in
a r easonable manner;
3. ta ke ov er and deal with the defence or
sett lement of any Claim in Your
n ame and if a settlement is made
w ithout costs being awarded,
determine what proportion of those
costs sh ould be paid for costs &
ex penses and paid to Us;
4. sett le all Claims in pounds sterling;
5 . be r eimbursed within 30 days for any
costs or expenses that are not insured
u n der this Policy, which We pay to
You or on Your behalf;

We w ill not pay dishonest Claims. If You

Pay ing Claims

Th is Policy, the Certificate of In surance and

Choice of Law
Th is Policy shall be g overned by and
in terpreted in accordance with the laws of
En g land and Wales and the En glish Courts
a lon e shall have jurisdiction in any dispute.
A ll communication in connection with this
Policy shall be in En glish.
Third Party Rights
Th e Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) A ct
1 999, or any amendment thereto shall n ot
a pply to this Policy. Only You and Us can
en force the terms of this Policy. No other
pa r ty may benefit from this contract a s of
r ight. This Policy may be varied or cancelled
w ithout the consent of a ny third party.
Compliance with Policy Requirements
You (and where relevant Your
r epresentatives), shall comply with a ll
a pplicable terms and conditions specified in
th is Policy. If You do not comply, We will
on ly pay that part of any Claim that We
w ou ld have had to pay if You had complied
in fu ll.
Changing Y our Policy
1 . If You want to change Your Policy
If a ny of the information You have
g iv en Us changes You must telephone
(a n d confirm in writing if We request
You to do so), email or write to Us.
2. If We w ant to change Your Policy
We r eserve the r ight to make changes
or a dd to these Policy terms for legal or
r egulatory r easons and/or to r eflect
n ew industry guidance and codes of
pr a ctice. If this happens We will write
to You w ith details at least 30 days
befor e We make any changes. You
w ill then have the option to continue
w ith or to cancel the Policy.
A ny change made to Your Policy will begin
on th e date that the Certificate of In surance
is issu ed to You by Us.
If We ch ange Your policy and a s a result of
th ose changes You wish to cancel Your
policy , We will send You a pro-rata r efund
u n less You have made a Claim under this
Policy in which case no r efund will be made.
Cancelling Your Policy
1 . If You want to cancel Your Policy

If, for a ny reason, You are not satisfied
w ith this Policy, You may, within 14
da y s of receiving Your Policy and
Cer tificate of In surance contact Us and
We w ill cancel it. If this happens the
Policy will have provided no cov er and
We w ill refund any premiums You
h av e paid, providing You have n ot
a lready travelled and n o Claim(s) have
been reported or paid.
A fter 14 days You may cancel Your
policy , but We will not pay You a
r efund of a ny premium You have paid.

telephone, on claim forms and in other
documents is true, complete and accurate.

Interest
No su m payable by Us u nder this Policy
sh a ll carry interest unless payment has been
u n reasonably delayed by Us following
r eceipt of a ll the required certificates,
in formation and ev idence n ecessary to
su pport the Claim. Where interest becomes
pa y able by Us, it will be calculated only
fr om the date of final receipt of such
cer tificates, information or ev idence.
Bank Charges
We sh a ll n ot be liable for any charges
a pplied by Your bank for any transactions
m a de in relation to a Claim.

r estricted mobility but excluding any golf
bu ggy or g olf trolley.
Mon ey
Coin s, banknotes, traveller’s cheques, postal
or m oney orders, travel tickets, pre-paid
v ouchers, non-refundable pre-paid entry
t ickets a nd debit, credit, payment,
pr epayment and/or charge cards.
Pa rent or Legal Guardian
A per son with parental r esponsibility, or a
leg al guardian, both being in accordance
w ith the Children Act 1989 and a ny
sta tutory amendment modification or re-
