Survival Systems International is a single fall capsule, winch and davit manufacturing company with head-quarters in Valley Centre, California, USA.

Survival Systems International has a history of success in providing survival capsules to the offshore oil & gas industry. Some highlights include the following:

· SSI (formerly Whittaker Survival Systems Division) has been manufacturing and servicing lifeboats for over 40 years, manufacturing the first totally enclosed motor propelled survival craft for the offshore oil and gas industry, in 1968.

· SSI’s survival capsules are designed specifically for the offshore oil and gas industry.

· To date SSI has more than 2,500 capsules in service in over 35 countries around the world.

· SSI’s survival capsules have the best track record in the industry with over 2,000 people safely evacuated in over 60 incidents.

In addition to producing capsules, Survival Systems are aware that many lifeboat owners and operators are currently in the process of determining the best products and correct methods to use for replacing their existing lifeboat hooks.

Lifeboats are important to your day-to-day operations, and the hooks and hook release system on these lifeboats are critical to your safe operation. The new IMO regulations - quote:

“MSC 1/Circ. 1392 – Existing lifeboat hook systems that do not comply with the revised SOLAS regulations must be replaced no later than the first scheduled dry dock after 1st July 2014”.

Our business is re-hooking lifeboats, we’ve been doing it for years and can assist in your lifeboat re-hooking process. This is also an opportunity to upgrade to new and improved lifeboat hooks. The Triple5 hook release mechanism is better and safer.

REPLACING YOUR LIFEBOAT HOOKS?

Load Locks the HooksThe Triple5 Release System is engineered with a Lift Over Centre design as the central concept. The lift point of the hook is directly above the centre of the pivot of the hook. Such a design ensures the weight of the boat works to keep the hooks closed when it’s suspended above the water. Hooks designed to remain closed with the weight of the lifeboat are safer than hooks that use the lifeboat’s weight to rotate open.

Added Safety without Manual PinTriple5 hooks have been designed with a built-in Internal Secondary Safety System in each hook. This patented system offers the same safety of having a pin in each hook, but the lock system can be disengaged from the Helmsman's controls, without the risks associated with the need to remove pins from outside the lifeboat.Ask to see the 3D animations of this function.

Eliminated the HydrostatThe hydrostat is a troublesome device that can become a major operational, maintenance and safety concern. As the Triple5 begins with an inherently stable system (known as lift or Load Centre) there is no requirement for the hydrostat. Read the guidelines, IMO MSC 320(89) - paragraph: 4.4.7.6, to learn why other systems require this device.

Non-Accidental On-load ReleaseTraditional lifeboat release systems use the same handle for a water-borne (or off-load) release as for an on-load release - which can result in dropping the lifeboat. To prevent accidental operation of this risky procedure, SSI designed a distinctly different method for on-load release. Using a separate handle for on-load releases, the Triple5 system reduces the risk of performing an accidental and unsafe on-load release.

Reliable Hook ResettingThe Triple5 Hook System uses high strength push / pull cables connected directly from the control box to each hook. This allows the Helmsman to close and reset the hooks from within the lifeboat, eliminating manual resetting of the hooks outside the lifeboat and preventing improper resetting.
