SOLASContainerWeightVerifica8onRequirements
• Effec&vefromJuly1,2016,theSafetyofLifeatSeaConven&on(SOLAS)requirestheshippernamedonoceancarrier’sbillofladinghastoprovideaverifiedgrossmass(VGM)forpackedcontainer.Thedeclara&onoftheverifiedgrossmassshouldbesignedanddatedbyapersondulyauthorizedbytheshipperandsubmittothecarrierviaeitherelectronicinterchangechannelsoraphysicalshippingdocument.Withoutaverifiedgrossmass,thepackedcontainershallnotbeloadedaboardship.
• Therulesprescribetwomethodsbywhichtheshippermayobtaintheverifiedgrossmassofapackedcontainer:
• Method1,upontheconclusionofpackingandsealingacontainer,theshippermayweigh,orhavearrangedthatathirdpartyweigh,thepackedcontainer.
• Method2,theshipper(or,byarrangementoftheshipper,athirdparty)mayweighallpackagesandcargoitems,includingthemassofpallets,dunnageandotherpackingandsecuringmaterialtobepackedinthecontainer,andaddthetaremassofthecontainertothesumofthesinglemassesofthecontainer’scontents.(Es&ma&ngtheweightofacontainer’scontentsisnotpermiRed.)
• Inrespectofbothmethod1and2,theweighingequipmentusedmustmeettheapplicableaccuracystandardsandrequirementsoftheStateinwhichtheequipmentisbeingused.

• A)IfcontainersarriveattheterminalwithouttheVGMaberJuly/1,theywilldeclarethebox“manifestlyunsafe”.Thecontainerwillbeputonholdun<hegrossweightcanbeknownanddocumented.

The Tare Weight is located on the back right door of containers. The weight would need to be taken before container is backed into the dock for loading to be added to the weight of the contents for the VGM.

• ForterminalswhoacceptcontainernomaRerVGMreceivedornot(Group2),andfortheTerminalswhoweighcontainerforShipper(Group3)– ShipperisresponsibleforprovidingVGMtoMTAbeforeBookingCutOffdate,
otherwisethebookingwillberolledtonextvessel.– Shipperwillberesponsibleforallthecostsforbookingrolloveratport.

• SinceMTALinesistheac&ngoceancarrierinallLCLshipmentsforinterna&onalexport,wearerequiredtosubmitVGMcer&fica&onforallcargotobeloadedintocontainersforoceanexportpriortoarrivalatthepiersforloadingofthecontainersontothevessels.
• Belowaretheproceduresthatneedtobefollowedsothatyourshipmentsarenotheldup.• -Shipperswillbeaskedtoini&allysupplyMTAwithaformofScaleCalibra&onCer&ficateissuedbytheauthorityintheir

• Since,MTALinesisac&ngasyouragentforinterna&onalexportcontainershipments,wearerequiredtosubmitVGMcer&fica&onforallcargoloadedintocontainersforoceanexport.TheVGMistobesubmiRedtocarrierpriortoarrivalatthepiersforloadingofthecontainersontothevessels.WithouttheVGMcontainerswillnotbeloadedontothevessel.
• Belowaretheproceduresthatneedtobefollowedsothatyourshipmentsarenotheldup.• -Shipperswillbeaskedtoini&allysupplyMTAwithaformofScaleCalibra&onCer&ficateissuedbytheauthorityintheir
