Unwind at this secluded stream valley, where you can picnic, and visit “the ole swimmin’ hole.” 16 One Horse Gap Visualize an ancient tribe of Native Americans passing through the narrow crevice downward from the top of a sheer bluff. Site of an annual 9-day horseback ride, modern day horseback riders take the same trail. Fish at the nearby, but remote, One Horse Gap Lake. 15 The Grand Rose Hotel Reflect on yesteryear when riverboat patrons arrived at this hotel sitting peacefully on a bluff overlooking the beautiful Ohio River. Built in 1812, it originally served as a tavern on the river for pioneers traveling on the river. This National Historic site is owned by the state of Illinois and is the oldest operating hotel in Illinois. 10 Saline County Conservation Area State Park Fish, hike, camp, and picnic at the 105-acre Glen O. Jones Lake where relaxation is ultimate.
