1872The embryonic IWKA is founded as a weapons and munitions factory in Karlsruhe, Germany; it relocates to Berlin but returns again in 1929.

1898Patent issued for “flexible metal tubes with beading folds” (convolutions). Production of bellows and metal tubes began for industrial applications. Company was the first ever manufacturer of seamless corrugated tubes in the world.

HOW WE WORKOur engineers in construction and development have access to the full range of modern design tools in each of the centers. CAD/CAM and FE calculation programs, computer simulations, simultaneous engi-neering, rapid prototyping and loading and durability testbeds to validate quality over time are tools that are second nature to the BOA experts.

THE BOA BRANDThe BOA brand stretches back over 100 years. BOA developed pressure-resistant metal tubes and later be-came a byword for flexible pipeline systems. After suc-cessfully expanding into the USA and the Netherlands, BOA joined the German IWKA Group in 1990 and incor-porated into the BKT Balg- und Kompensatoren Tech-nologie [Bellow and Compensator Technology] Group which has been trading in the „metal piping with bead-ing folds” (flexible metal piping) since 1872. After BKT GmbH was purchased by the Berlin based financial investor, Odewald & Compagnie, in 2005, BKT adopted the traditional BOA as the new group name for the automobile and industrial suppliers, recently in-cluded in the group.

The focus of our work is to ensure the highest prod-uct quality and outstanding durability across the entire lifecycle of the product. AUTOMOTIVE

Mobility is the basis for all progress and pros-perity. BOA components transport liquid and gaseous substances, control move-

ments, compensate for vibrations and in many ve-hicles ensure that you arrive at your destination safely and in comfort while protecting the environment.Our most important product is a compact flexible metal tube coated with a stabilizing wire netting. We have delivered almost 20 million units to customers worldwide since its launch. It connects the exhaust

manifold on the engine to the catalytic converter and the vehicle‘s exhaust system. It needs to be gas tight and resistant to high temperatures and corrosion while isolating any unwanted vibrations. How do we do this? We deliver maximum flexibility using high-strength materials, exclusively stainless steel alloys. BOA isolation elements are used in vehi-cles manufactured by Audi, BMW, Chrysler, General Motors/Opel, Mercedes Benz, Peugeot/Citroën and Volkswagen among others.

Great care is used in production as well as in the functional and fatigue testing of the vibration decoupler for automobiles. Special hydroformed convoluted tubes and braided wire are combined to become a flexible and highly resilient product.


BOA produces parts which enable motor vehicle manufacturers to comply with ever more stringent emission regulations and target fuel consumption: mini bellows for fuel injection, exhaust gas compen-sators and recirculation leads, turbo charger-oil re-circulation wires and high frequency mufflers, airbag components as well as leads for fuel and air-condi-tioning.Sales to the automobile industry make up more than half of the BOA Group’s global sales. No other indus-try has higher requirements of its suppliers in terms of engineering, product and service quality.BOA works with almost all the large global motor and vehicle manufacturers. ENERGY

Energy is the lifeblood of the economy. The BOA Group develops solutions for its cus-tomers who produce, distribute and use

energy. Forms of energy include traditional power generation, oil & gas, solar and fuel cells to provide electricity.The applications for the solutions range from large industrial energy industries to private households. Within these areas BOA also handles customers from the related areas of heating, ventilation and air conditioning. Our customers include almost all large energy businesses, power plant operators, turbine constructors and plant manufacturers across the globe.

Energy DistributionBOA delivers customized compensators for energy distribution. They are used to absorb thermal ex-

pansion and cancel out inaccuracies made during assembly in the distribution of high-voltage electric-ity in an inert gas atmosphere (SF6).

Electrical Technology BOA offers flexible connecting, sealing and pro-tective elements for distributing, converting, trans-forming and further processing of electricity. Gas Distribution The company supplies gas safety piping and com-plete installation systems from stainless steel for use in industry, public buildings and private households. They act as a distribution network for combustible gases such as natural gas and liquid gases such as butane and propane and meet the most stringent of quality standards in terms of safety and durability.

Solar TechnologyBOA metal bellows are used as permanent, flexible connectors between solar collectors. They also form vacuum tight metal to glass connections for vacuum piping in solar equipment. BOA metal bellows com-pensate for system heat expansion and assembly

tolerances; thereby, guaranteeing the operation of the solar system throughout its entire life. Metal piping is used as a flexible connector from the solar collectors to the piping.

Heating, Ventilation, Air-conditioningThe BOA Group offers a wide range of products to designers and manufacturers of equipment for heat-ing, ventilation and air conditioning for any type of buildings: steel compensators, rubber and PTFE compensators, metal piping and elastomer hose lining. These products cover the entire spectrum of possible uses.

Fuel Cell and BoilersBOA provides solutions to specific problems in con-junction with its customers for providing fuel cells, heating equipment and boiler systems in the form of individual parts or entire assembly units. INDUSTRY

Any passenger using the German ICE, the French TGV or other high-speed trains wants more than just to arrive at their destination in

good time. More than anything they want to travel in comfort and arrive in a relaxed state. BOA com-ponents guarantee that mechanical vibrations are absorbed, whatever the speed; they cancel out any thermal expansion and ensure that cooling systems and air-conditioning equipment work correctly.Systems and components from the BOA Group play an important part in air and space travel.
