upcoming events and opportunities at Bethany and in the Mankato

area. Make use of the connections you made during Bethany’s Best

Week Ever to form an intramural team, attend upcoming events,

or check out the “Res Life Recommends” locations. Grab your

wing-mates to play a game of bocce ball or croquet one afternoon

(the library would be happy to lend you the equipment). Make a

difference in the community by getting involved with a local non-

profit. These and many other ideas for making the most of your

How to sign up for IMsIntramural sports are recreational leagues where student teams compete against other student teams.

Five Steps to Joining IntramuralsWatch your email for the start of each intramural season and then…1. Grab roster and individual forms from the base of

the stairs in the Sports and Fitness Center.

2. Ask friends to join your team, paying attention to the eligibility and roster portions of the rules.

3. Have everyone on your team fill out the individual forms – emergency and insurance – and you fill out the roster.

4. Return the roster and forms to the base of the stairs in the SFC.

5. Attend the captain’s meeting.

How to start a clubBethany has a thriving clubs and organizations scene, but if you have a hobby or passion not represented by our current groups, you can start your own club!

Five Steps to Starting a Club or Hosting a Major Event1. Pick a name.

2. Find a Bethany faculty or staff member to advise your newly-named club.

3. Fill out Student Senate’s club recognition packet available online at blc.edu/clubs-and-organizations/recognition-funding.

4. Email your paperwork to Olivia Lippert ([email protected]) and Noella Wigtil ([email protected]), Student Senate’s Internal Affairs Coordinators.

5. If approved, you will have access to all the perks of being a recognized club including advertising, meeting space on campus, funds, representation on the website and in the yearbook, and use of campus equipment and services with approval.

corner of Marsh and S Division St.

Fact #2: Fares are $1.50 per ride. Tokens or a pass can be purchased for frequent rides at a discounted rate. Transfers are FREE and occur in downtown Mankato, the Madison East Center, and MSU.

Fact #3: Routes run Monday–Saturday.

Fact #4: All buses have bike racks that can be used free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fact #5: The buses can get you where you want to go including the River Hills Mall, Walmart, Menards, Land-to-Air, Urgent Care, the Open Door Health Clinic, Cub Foods, Hy-Vee, MSU, Biolife and many more!

BLC Clubs and Organizations SpotlightB-Town DrumlineAdvisor: Ben FaugstadStudent Contact: Noah BattenfeldThe B-Town Drumline was founded by a student and is run, funded, and directed by students. It is an energy-packed ensemble made up of students who love to drum. The B-Town Drum-line performs halftime shows at basketball games and special appearances (e.g. Fall Festi-val, Luthapalooza, Midnight Madness).

Whether you have some great ideas for events, are good at organizing and party-planning, or are just willing to help make events happen, BAC is the place for you. The Law Club takes several field trips throughout the year including trips to watch court proceedings, trips to law conferences and conventions, and many other exciting law-related activities.

Members are typically majoring in mathematics, chemistry, or biology though all students are welcome. The group organizes science-related events including field trips and guest speakers. Past speakers have talked to students about graduate studies, medical school, and undergraduate research opportunities.

Center for Intercultural Development and Resources (CIDR) Advisor: Jonathan StadlerCIDR is a conduit for compassion, conversation, and comprehension between the various races, ethnicities, socio-economic, and regional back-grounds represented at BLC. CIDR raises aware-ness and appreciation of the diverse student populations, and endorses a culturally diverse environment.

Center for Urban TeachingAdvisor: Carrie PfeiferStudent Contact: Kayla NorrisThe purpose of CfUT is to identify, prepare, and support potential urban teachers. Through the cohort on campus they expose BLC students to urban environments by traveling to urban schools and immersing themselves in them.

Colleges against Cancer (CAC)Advisor: Estelle VliegerStudent Contact: Alexa Alfred, Megan Sons, Alex Ford(CAC) is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to elim-inating cancer by working to implement the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society.

Concert Band Advisor: Benjamin FaugstadThe Concert Band serves as the foundation of all instrumental ensembles on campus. Students learn and experience a variety of repertoire in several rehearsals each week. Opportunities abound for chamber ensembles to perform at chapel services and events on campus. The main Concert Band performances are at Fall Festival, Christmas at Bethany, and the Home-coming Concert, which follows each annual tour.

Cross-TerrainAdvisor: Ted MantheStudent Contact: Alannah MenkThe Cross Terrain Sports Club is an organization which strives to promote adventure enthusiasm through outdoor experience. The organization provides a variety of outdoor recreational and sporting activities open to all students of Beth-any. Activities include, but are not limited to, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing, road biking, mountain biking, hiking, climbing, trail running, triathalons, and kayaking.

FidelisAdvisor: Denice WollerFidelis students meet weekly as a class to learn the process of producing a yearbook. As the historical publication on campus, these students’ work is viewed years down the road. Staff members write stories and put the work together on the pages sent to press. Being a part of the Fidelis is a great chance for students to learn about journalism, meet new people and also produce a body of work that could help them get a job in any field after graduation.

InkwellAdvisor: Lissa HorneberStudent Contact: Hannah Bockoven, Karee HenrichInkwell is a literary magazine that showcases creative writing and artwork by the Bethany community. Inkwell staff manages every aspect of production, from designing layout to organiz-ing and reading submissions, and all students are welcome to submit work!

Jazz Ensemble Advisor: Ben FaugstadThe Jazz Ensemble performs music ranging from the classic big band repertoire to today’s lead-ing jazz composers. This group joins the concert band on regional and national tours. The Jazz Ensemble meets every week and enjoys several on-campus and off-campus performances.

MSU Hockey BroadcastAdvisor: Greg VandermauseStudent Contacts: Sarah Meilner, Tyler Voigt, Sam Shubert Students learn the world of sports broadcasting through our partnership with Minnesota State hockey.

PhotojournalismAdvisor: Denice WollerStudent Contact: Jacob StrattonPhotojournalism students meet weekly as a class to learn about techniques used by professional photojournalists. It’s a great chance for students to meet new people, go to new events and see their work published in various locations.

Production StudioAdvisor: Greg VandermauseThe production studio is a great place to learn about all things media related. Students get involved with campus shows to live sports broadcasting, as well as the many areas of post-production such as video editing and motion graphics.

Psychology ClubAdvisor: Jonathan StadlerStudent Contact: Jenny ThompsonThe Psychology Club promotes activities that explore topics related to psychology, e.g. game nights, speakers, Psychology Week. Everyone who is curious about what people act, think, and feel the way they do, is welcome to join!

Scholastic Leadership Society (SLS)Advisor: Eric WollerThe SLS exists to recognize academic achieve-ment, leadership, and citizenship among students at Bethany; to promote student lead-ership experiences; and to sponsor community learning activities in order to expand educational opportunities beyond the classroom.

Scroll Advisor: Denice WollerStudent Contact: Tyler VoigtStudents meet as a class weekly to learn the processes undergone in a campus newspaper. They learn about journalism, understand what it’s like to work in a newspaper environment, meet new people and produce a body of work that could help get a job in any field after graduation.

The team competes in an average of 25 tournaments throughout the school year and has traveled across the country and internationally to compete. The Bethany Speech Team motto is “Take the Room!” When you are speaking, every-one is there to listen to you. You have the power!

Do you want to get paid for these skills? Then Bethany’s Stone Path Studios might just be a good fit.
