YOUR EASTER INVITATION Maybe you were already planning to join us. Maybe you had other plans (i.e. travel to be with family). Maybe you’ve never thought of Easter in that way (“Invitation?”).

But, your Easter invitation has arrived.

It is an invitation from God to hear, taste, and see the greatest triumph this world will ever know: Jesus is alive! Death has no power over Him! Jesus gives new life to us, life filled with reconciliation, peace, and hope! Jesus reigns supreme over every challenge, frailty, disease, and disaster, for He is the Champion, the Resurrected One! THE. BEST. NEWS. EVER!

If you hear this as good news, if it makes your heart beat and long to see Jesus, if you read that and feel any excitement…then share that invitation with someone this Easter. Invite someone to join you at Prince of Peace to hear the best news ever. Invite a family member (“my pastor told me to…but let’s make it a family day!”). Invite a neighbor. Invite a friend. Invite someone you just met. Just invite someone.

Think about it. You may be an instrument for God to change a life, for all eternity, with just a simple invitation.

YOUTH & FAMILY MINISTRY SEARCH TEAM FORMING

The Board of Directors has authorized creation of a Search Team for a full-time servant-leader for the Youth and Family Ministry at Prince of Peace/ Príncipe de Paz. This action follows the recommendation given by the Exploratory Team for Youth and Family Ministry as they concluded their work in late 2016. The Search Team will be tasked with prayerfully seeking a qualified individual who will further develop and implement our ministry to families and youth, serving not only those who are already a part of the PoP/PdeP family, but also reaching those that God desires to draw to be a part of His people here. The Exploratory Team recom-mendations emphasized the need to engage a leader who is: • wired for “out of the box” thinking • culturally sensitive and bilingual • able to lead and equip others • possesses a “contagious faith” It is hoped that many of those who participated in the first Exploratory Team will also feel led to be a part of this search committee.

Many people do intentional planning in order to accomplish personal priorities. Examples of this include education, recreation, career, housing, vacations and worship. It rings true, when something is a priority, we usually plan for desired outcomes.

Economic outcomes require planning as well. Elements of such planning include working to produce income, budgeting, saving, debt reduction, insurance, education, and long-term concerns such as retirement or healthcare.

All these concerns require planning if goals are to be reached. Without planning, the future is left to circum-stances that may miss the benefits that most people desire.

Planning shouldn’t be limited to finances or future. People often spend endless hours planning to improve their quality of life or planning vacations. We plan for recreation, entertainment, sporting events, weekends at the lake or walks in the woods. All this planning is done because these activities are important priorities for emotional, physical and social well-being.

Generosity is also an important element of life that requires good planning. People who give their first-fruits do so with planning and discipline. Those who practice such planning in response to the Lord’s kindness, confirm their priorities for the Lord’s work and for other people.

Planning for the end-of-life transfer of a person’s material property is a component of life that has significant ramifications for others. A sad reality is that the average person spends little time planning for the responsible stewardship of their estate when they go to heaven.

Estate plans often fail to explore charitable benefits. Charitable estate planning can avoid unintended gifts to Uncle Sam, designating them instead for family and ministry.

Winter is over and Spring has sprung! Our clocks have been set ahead and we've been enjoying the additional hour or so of daylight in the evening. Have you taken this opportunity to reconnect with your family? Take advantage of the daylight savings and the beautiful Spring weather to ride bikes with the kids, or go on a walk and observe the nature around you. How about playing outdoor games like basketball, tossing a football, or something as simple as catching a ball? Did you have a tough day and are not so energetic? Then find a local park with playground equipment and let the kids have fun! You and the family can even take Fido on a nice evening walk!

Everyone is so busy these days—constantly running someone here or dropping someone off there. It makes it all the more important for us to find quality time to be together, and to make the most of that time. All too quickly, the kids are grown, no longer living at home, and that special bonding time will be lost forever!

Don't let the time get away from you! Invest in your children, and when the time comes, they will have learned how to be quality parents by observing you!

In His Name, Kathy Hudson

HEARTS FOR JESUS This year our Hearts for Jesus project, ministering to the LLC comfort dogs, will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, during the Sunday School hour (9:30 - 10:30 am). We will hold the event in our upstairs classrooms near the FLC. Each child will have the opportunity to participate in fun game challenges with random prizes. Refreshments will be served at the completion of our event.

As in the past, all Crosstrainers from 2 years thru 5th grade will receive a letter and pledge form. Our Crosstrainers are asked to show their support for the Hearts for Jesus project. Each Crosstrainer will receive a pledge sheet to use in gathering pledges from sponsors (family members, friends, PoP church family). The pledge is a flat-fee amount designated by each sponsor and will be collected after our Hearts for Jesus event.

This year we have invited the PoP Preschool to join us in gathering donations and partici-pating in our Hearts for Jesus event!

We always have a lot of fun at our Hearts for Jesus events and are pleased to support such a worthwhile organization. Please remember to show our younger PoP members your support when they ask!

CLOTHING DRIVE Our semi-annual Clothing Drive is upon us once again! We are collecting gently used clothing and small household items to distribute to those in need during the April 22nd Food Pantry. Please sort items into men’s, women’s, and children’s bags and bring to the church office beginning April 2nd.

ANGEL MINISTRY The Prince of Peace Care Bear is a hand-crafted symbol of hope, love and comfort given to a toddler going through cancer treatments at Arnold Palmer Hospital Orlando. Each bear is gently stuffed with soft, cuddly fill which gives the child something to cuddle with and sleep with when they need the secure feeling that they are being cared for. A crocheted heart is sewn onto the bear as a symbol of love and prayers are being said while the bear is stitched together. Sonia Tellez has resurrected the bear from 10 years ago when 40 bears were given as Christmas presents to the children having to spend time in the hospital. Thank you, Sonia, for taking on this fun project!

We are beginning to offer a few bears to toddlers at the time of their baptism showing them that God’s love is abundant through the love of Prince of Peace and the Angels.

We continue to work on the many items we donate to Winnie & Arnold Palmer Hospitals and the Hubbard House. Many skeins of yarn have been donated to our group and we are so thankful. We meet the first and third Thursday of each month in the Board Room. Come join us if you are looking for a huggable experience!

YOUNG AT HEART April 12 – 11:00 am

“Love the LORD your God, walk in all his ways, hold fast to him.” – Deuteronomy 11:22

Please join us on Wednesday, April 12th at 11:00 am as we gather together for some food and fellowship! Plan to bring a brown bag lunch and, of course, a friend. After a brief meeting, we will assemble goodie bags for the April 15th Easter Egg Hunt.

EGYPTIAN DINNER Fundraiser for Persecuted Christians

Saturday, April 22 – 6:00 pm

On Saturday, April 22 at 6:00 pm there will be an Egyptian dinner here at Prince of Peace in the Family Life Center. The meal, sponsored by LCMS Burning Bush Ministries, will be prepared by members of the local Egyptian Christian community and will feature authentic Egyptian food. This event is a fundraiser for Lift Your Eyes Ministries which assists Christians in Egypt who suffer persecution and discrimination. The featured speaker will be Pastor Ashraf Ibrahim. Others will also be on hand to tell their stories about life as a Christian in Egypt.

Why focus on Egypt? Egypt plays a major role in the Biblical narrative. The Israelites were freed from slavery in Egypt by God on the occasion of the first Passover. The Holy Family found refuge in Egypt when King Herod wanted to kill the baby Jesus. And today there are over 10-million Christians in this country of 92 million people. These are our brothers and sisters in Christ who suffer persecution for their faith. God tells us: “Remember… those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering” (Hebrews 13:3).

The program will reveal what it is like for a Christian to live in a Muslim-dominated land. While not required to attend this event, a suggested donation of $20 ($10 for students) is requested to support Lift Your Eyes. Tickets are available at www.poporlando.com/Egypt. You may also contact Bruce or Barbara Lieske directly at [email protected] or (407) 359-0449.

Sponsored by LCMS Burning Bush Ministries.

LWML AT PRINCE OF PEACE Wednesday, April 19 // 10:30 am

We are invited to an LWML Zone Rally at St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 22. If you would like to join us, please contact Carlene Lemcke.

We want to send a care package to DCE Kenny Green for his birthday in June. We know what to send but realize the postage to Uruguay is very expensive (i.e. $60.00 for a 5-1/2 lb. box). If anyone would like to contribute to the postage fund, please see Donna Browne.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, April 19th. Keep filling your mite boxes and bringing them to church the 3rd Sunday of each month. Last month we collected $45.50, down from over $100 the previous month. All mites are sent to the National and District LWML offices for mission grants chosen at their conventions. One that the national LWML has chosen is called Lutheran Youth Corps ($25,000). The LCMS is developing this Youth Corp to equip and support young Lutheran adults with service opportunities in the urban and underserved communities. As always, we ask you to pray for this grant and the ones we are supporting here at PoP.

BOD NOMINATIONS

Beginning in April, a Nominating Committee will be seeking nominations for members of Prince of Peace/ Príncipe de Paz to serve on the Board of Directors. Six members will be elected to serve a two-year term on the BoD, the governing board of our congregation.

Watch for more information about the nominations process and the semi-annual congregational meeting to come in early April.

MONEY FOR MISSIONS The Lutheran Women in Mission have selected the missions that will receive money from them this year. We have been working since September and currently have $1500.00 to donate to mission projects. Thanks to all who helped us with these projects!

Pastor Grandpa (Ludwig), Pastor Ken, Pastor Borges, Pam, Austin, Parish Choir, Russell, Bill and Royanne, Otto and Joan, and the Sunday School children. Also, all who were in attendance and even those who were not able to be there but were there in your thoughts.
