Baby, it’s Cold outside! We had our AGM Nov 14. Many thanks to Brian Moule for 15 years of volunteer service to the community. He runs Custom Craft Painting if you need any paint-ing done. Brian has decided it is time to step aside and Marc Blais has stepped up to coordinate our Rink Ratz. Thank you to both. I would like to welcome Ed McCrea to the board, he has taken over the treasurer position, also Dagan Cardinal and Jay Clements who joined as directors at large. I am honoured with be-ing voted back in, ty.

Thank you to Etienne Bley, the many volunteers and donators who make our kids’ Christmas party such a huge success. With the help of our donators, this event ended up being of no cost to the community and we were able to give out approx. $2000 worth of prizes. The proceeds of our baskets are being given to the Wish Tree families as gift certificates. All positions were filled with about 12 tween/teens and 4 adult volunteers. They also worked for about 6 weeks to round up donations from Knexions Church, Kal Tire, CIBC, BigT’s, Pet Value, CO-OP, No Frill’s, Filos, The Barber Shop, Starbucks, Dairy Queen, Subway, Around the Bend, not to mention surprise giveaways from Richard Gotfried (MLA) and a grant from Peter Demong’s office.

Feb 16, 2019 is our Family Skate Party 2-4 pm. Our Rink Ratz have been hard at it and the rink should be in great shape. Try and come out, it is always lots of fun with games, hot chocolate and baked potatoes to keep the hands warm.

Swan Evergreen Village will be running a 6-week “Coffee and Conversation” for seniors starting Jan 3, 2019. This is the first of hopefully many programs we are looking at for our seniors.

In January I will be presenting to the board a vision of projects that we explore to enhance our center. I will update everyone on projects we consider vi-able or with to explore further. From the list we will look at priorities and will be setting up committees to plan and fundraise to bring them to reality. If you have interest or have questions, please send me an email at [email protected] or phone me at 403-243-8222 (we will answer Impact Zone, so you’re not surprised).Stay Safe and Warm,Kim

thanks to our Volunteers and our

donors! This year’s Christmas part had our largest attendance ever despite the snow. Santa and his elves came this year with a free photo booth courtesy of Knexions Church. Many thanks to all our donors for making the whole event FREE to our community this year. Due to the overwhelming donations, the best part is we were able to give away about $2000 of prizes to give away to kids and parents and the proceeds of our DONATED baskets will be given to the Giving Tree families this year as gift certificates. That is a first! About 12 tween/teen volunteers with 4 key adult volunteers have been work-ing for about 6 weeks to pull this event together and, as usual, I, the director had no work to do except set up and tear down so it was a huge success on many fronts. Many thanks to local businesses for those donations: KAL TIRE’s 10 oil change coupons, KNEXIONS CHURCH candy donation volunteers and Free Photo Booth, CIBC’s 2 gift baskets and wheelbarrow load of candy, BIG T’s adult based, PET VALU’s Pet basket, CO-OP’s volunteer appreciation tokens, NO FRILLS’ Concession contribu-tions, FILOS and THE BARBER SHOP’s adult giveaways, STARBUCKS’ coffee and hot chocolate water, DAIRY QUEEN’s sheet cake, SUBWAY cookies and AROUND THE BEND volunteer Lunches, RICHARD GOTFRIED’s (MLA)’s surprise giveaways and PETER DEMONG’s office for getting our City of Calgary Community Event Grant application in by the deadline. Parents connected, Kids played HARD and everyone went away more connected as a community - so mission successful.

THANKS, VOLUNTEERS, FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK and that you made Deer Run the best community in the Southeast (again) - see you at the next Family Events:

Once in a blue moon.Meaning: The phrase refers to something that happens very infrequently.Origins: Confusingly, a blue moon doesn’t refer to the actual colour of the moon; it refers to when we see a full moon twice in one month. This happens every two to three years.
