All Non-US Citizens
Register with ISSS (International Student and Scholars Services) to verify immigration status.
Depending on visa type, may or may not be eligible for co-op. ISSS will determine that.
SCDC Drexel University
International Students With F-1 and J-1 Visas
Must register with ISSS and update ISSS with any changes in address, academic or visa status, etc.
When co-op employment is found, MUST get work authorization from ISSS PRIOR to beginning job. Failure to do this will result in being out of status and will probably require you to leave country and re-enter with a new I-20.
If terminated from a co-op position, must notify ISSS and co-op coordinator immediately.
Those not locating a co-op position who do not sign a petition and whose job search journals are not approved will be out of status and must see ISSS immediately to discuss situation.

Changes in Major
Students start change of major process with academic advisor Co-op coordinators sign off on Change of Major form--
Students can come to SCDC during drop-in hours to get their forms signed
A change in major will only result in a change in co-op cycle if required by new academic program
Changes in co-op cycle may require documentation from the academic advisor with a reason for the change
Since co-op positions must be related to a student’s major, important to update records in a timely manner

How do you ensure CO-OP CREDIT once you find a job?
If you are matched with a job through SCDConline, a Student Agreement & Registration form (BLUE FORM) will be generated for you. You must sign this.
If you find a job independently:– Prior approval from coordinator– Blue form– Job Description– Offer Letter– Signed Employer Agreement form
International students (F-1 or J-1 visa) must also get work authorization ES&P (once job is completed)
SCDC Drexel University
What if you don’t have a job when co-op begins?
‘Petition’ for Co-op Credit
Blue form or Signed ‘petition’ is due no later than 2nd week of the scheduled co-op term
If you do not have a job, signing the ‘petition’ lets us know you are still searching for a position—similar to getting an ‘extension’ on an assignment
Petition also lets us know you are still an active student This required contact better ensures regular, individualized services for
students needing assistance with their job search Students without jobs, who do not sign petitions on time, will NOT receive
co-op credit and will be considered Inactive with the university (even if a job is found later). This will have serious consequences for co-op as well as Billing, Financial Aid, ISSS, etc
SCDC Drexel University
What if you don’t have a job when co-op begins?(cont). Job Search Journal
If you have not secured a co-op work experience by the end of B-round, you must make an appointment to meet with your coordinator
Coordinator will supply you with all of the materials and guidelines to begin your job search journal
SCDC Drexel University
What if you don’t have a job when co-op begins?(cont).
Job Search Journal If you secure a co-op after the second week of the
co-op term, you are required to submit your journal along with other required paperwork
If job search journal does not meet SCDC standards, you may receive a failed work term for co-op
Critical to work with coordinator if you do not secure a co-op
SCDC Drexel University
SCDC Probation Process
If a student is terminated while on co-op or behaves in an unprofessional manner, the situation will be investigated by a co-op coordinator
If the occurrence is considered to be a minor offense, the student will receive a letter of reprimand from the SCDC
If a more serious offense and/or a termination, the student may be placed on co-op probation
Terms of probation are tailored to the situation, but can include failure of a co-op cycle, a written assignment, removal from the co-op program, etc
SCDC Drexel University
