A couple of years ago I found myself wrestling with my identity. Day and night Iwas worried constantly about what people thought and what would happen next.It was paralyzing.

One day while I was praying for the anxiety to pass, I heard God whisper, "Youhave to believe in who I made you to be." Friend, that was life changing, and Iwant you to build your business on that very same truth that I found in Scripture.

So let the verses and truths just wash over your heart and mind to find yourself ina place of worship. But to do that, you might have to get through a few mentaland spiritual roadblocks.

So let’s name them and release them. After reading the following pages, answerthe questions below.

1. What qualities about God did you resonate with most?

2. What qualities did you find yourself wrestling with a little?

3. What qualities about yourself did you really love reading?

4. Why those? Did they resonate as a “Woohoo!” or as a “I wish I felt that all thetime.”?

5. Pray over all of them. Praise God for the ones you “woohoo” about and pray forhelp in your unbelief about the others.

6. Create something to remind you who you are, especially those items that youneed help with unbelief. (For example, I still carry around a pile of index cardswith verses on them and the associated quality at the top so I can reference whenI need a mental reset.)

Your True Identity

Who God Is

Reflections on his namesand attributes

God is Jehovah.

The name of the independent, self-complete being—“I AM WHO IAM”—only belongs to Jehovah God. Our proper response to Him is to

fall down in fear and awe of the One who possesses all authority.(Exodus 3:13-15)

God is Jehovah-shalom.

“The God of peace.” We are meant to know the fullness of God’sperfect peace, or His “shalom.” God’s peace surpasses understandingand sustains us even through difficult times. It is the product of fully

being what we were created to be. (Judges 6:16-24)

God is omniscient.

This means God is all-knowing. God’s knowledge encompasses everypossible thing that exists, has ever existed, or will ever exist. Nothing

is a mystery to Him. (Psalm 139:1-6)

God is wrathful.

Unlike human anger, God’s wrath is never capricious, self-indulgent,or irritable. It is the right and necessary reaction to objective moral

evil. (Nahum 1:2-8)

God is Adonai.

This name means “Master” or “Lord.” God, our Adonai, calls all God’speople to acknowledge themselves as His servants, claiming His right

to reign as Lord of our lives. (2 Samuel 7:18-20)

God is Jehovah-M’Kad- desh.

This name means “the God who sanctifies.” A God separate from allthat is evil requires that the people who follow Him be cleansed from

all evil. (Leviticus 20:7, 8)

God is immutable.

All that God is, He has always been. All that He has been and is, He willever be. He is ever perfect and unchanging. (Psalm 102:25-28)

God is omnipresent.

God is everywhere—in and around everything, close to everyone. “‘Donot I fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord.” (Psalm 139:7-12)

God is full of grace.

Grace is God’s good pleasure that moves Him to grant merit where itis undeserved and to forgive debt that cannot be repaid.

(Ephesians 1:5-8)

God is Elohim.

This name means “Strength” or “Power.” He is transcendent, mightyand strong. Elohim is the great name of God, displaying His supreme

power, sovereignty, and faithfulness in His covenant relationship withus. (Genesis 17:7,8)

God is infinite.

God is beyond measurement—we cannot define Him by size oramount. He has no beginning, no end, and no limits. (Romans 11:33)

God is transcendent.

We must not think of God as simply the highest in an order of beings.This would be to grant Him eminence. But he is more than eminent.He is transcendent—existing beyond and above the created universe.

(Psalm 113:4,5)

God is merciful.

God’s merciful compassion is infinite and inexhaustible. ThroughChrist, He took the judgment that was rightfully ours and placed it onHis own shoulders. He waits and works now for all people to turn to

Him and to live under His justification. (Deuteronomy 4:29-31)

God is our Comforter.

Jesus called the Holy Spirit the “Comforter,” and the apostle Paulwrites that the Lord is “the God of all comfort.” (2 Corinthians 1:3,4)

God is omnipotent.

This means God is all-powerful. He spoke all things into being, and allthings—every cell, every breath, every thought— are sustained by Him.There is nothing too difficult for Him to do. (Jeremiah 32:17,18, 26,27)

God is just.

God is righteous and holy, fair and equitable in all things. We can trustHim to always do what is right. (Psalm 75:1-7)

God is sovereign.

God presides over every event, great or small, and He is in control ofour lives. To be sovereign, He must be all-knowing and all-powerful,

and by His sovereignty He rules His entire creation.(1 Chronicles 29:11-13)

God is El-Shaddai.

This name means “God Almighty,”the God who is all-sufficient and all-bountiful, the source of all blessings. (Genesis 49:22-26)

God is good.

God is the embodiment of perfect goodness, and is kind, benevolent,and full of good will toward all creation. (Psalm 119:65-72)

God is holy.

God’s holiness is not simply a better version of the best we know. Godis utterly and supremely untainted. His holiness stands apart—unique

and incomprehensible. (Revelation 4:8-11)

God is Jehovah-nissi.

This name means “God our banner.” Under His banner we go fromtriumph to triumph and say, “Thanks be to God, who gives us the

victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”(1 Corinthians 15:57, Exodus 17:8-15)

God is Father.

Jesus taught us to pray, “Our Father” (Matthew 6:9), and the Spirit ofGod taught us to cry, “Abba, Father.,” an intimate Aramaic term similar

to “Daddy.” The Creator of the universe cares for each one of us as if wewere the only child He had. (Romans 8:15-17)

God is love.

God’s love is so great that He gave His only Son to bring us intofellowship with Him. God’s love not only encompasses the world, but

embraces each of us personally and intimately. (1 John 4:7-10)

God is Jehovah-rophe.

This name means “Jehovah heals.” God alone provides the remedy formankind’s brokenness through His son, Jesus Christ. The Gospel is thephysical, moral, and spiritual remedy for all people. (Exodus 15:22-26)

God is wise.

All God’s acts are accomplished through His infinite wisdom. He alwaysacts for our good, which is to conform us to Christ. Our good and His

glory are inextricably bound together. (Proverbs 3:19,20)

God is the Church’s head.

God the Son, Jesus, is the head of the Church. As the head, the part ofthe body that sees, hears, thinks, and decides, He gives the orders that

the rest of the body lives by. (Ephesians 1:22,23)

God is Jehovah-jireh.

“The God who provides.” Just as He provided yesterday, He will alsoprovide today and tomorrow. He grants deliverance from sin, the oil of

joy for the ashes of sorrow, and eternal citizenship in His Kingdom for allthose adopted into His household. (Genesis 22:9-14)

God is self-sufficient.

All things are God’s to give, and all that is given is given by Him. He canreceive nothing that He has not already given us. (Acts 17:24-28)

God is faithful.

Out of His faithfulness God honors His covenants and fulfills Hispromises. Our hope for the future rests upon God’s faithfulness

(Psalm 89:1-8)

God is our intercessor.

Knowing our temptations, God the Son intercedes for us. He opens thedoors for us to boldly ask God the Father for mercy. Thus, God is both the

initiation and conclusion of true prayer. (Hebrews 4:14-16)

You are a child of God.

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should becalled children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world

does not know us is that it did not know him. —1 John 3:1

You are exulted, rejoiced over, quieted by the Almighty.

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; hewill rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he

will exult over you with loud singing. —Zephaniah 3:17

You are healed.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might dieto sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been

healed. —1 Peter 2:24

Your sins are made white as snow.

Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sinsare like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red

like crimson, they shall become like wool. —Isaiah 1:18

You are free.

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do notsubmit again to a yoke of slavery. —Galatians 5:1

You are his dwelling place.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spiritwithin you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.

—1 Corinthians 6:19

You are adopted and a co-heir with Christ.

For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, butyou have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry,

“Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit thatwe are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God andfellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that

we may also be glorified with him. —Romans 8:15-17

You are new, reconciled, an ambassador, righteous.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old haspassed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, whothrough Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry ofreconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to

himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrustingto us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors

for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you onbehalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to

And such were some of you. But you were washed, you weresanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and

You are chosen.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peoplefor his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of himwho called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. —1 Peter 2:9

You are God's co-laborer.

For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.—1 Corinthians 3:9

You are a sweet aroma.

For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are beingsaved and among those who are perishing, —2 Corinthians 2:15

You are his workmanship.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
