To give you an idea of what we are looking for from your our readers, we’ve asked former DHT photographer Randy Vanderveen to submit his Top 10 list, and as so many of our readers have told us over the years – they love Randy’s bird shots. HERRING GULLS Valhalla or LaGlace Lake or any of the small lakes in that area of the county. TRUMPETER SWANS Late fall and winter in neighbourhoods or farm yards with mature trees that bear fruit: Mountain ash, crabapple trees and Nanking cherry trees. BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS Found near the edges of Bear Lake or along the Smoky River. BALD EAGLES Found in the south or east side of Crystal Lake or the north side of Little Lake in Saskatoon Island Provincial Park. RUDDY DUCKS From the boardwalk/dock at Crystal Lake. BABY COOTS Found throughout the Peace in areas treed with large spruce trees where birds like to fly in for cover. BLUE JAYS Found anywhere in the Peace Country’s skies in fall and spring when they are staging or migrating. CANADA GEESE Found in Evergreen Park or Sakatoon Island Provincial Park. Get out of your car and walk. RUFFED GROUSE Found in the winter months anywhere in the Peace Country. Even literally in front of your house. COMMON RAVENS
