Upon completion of five or more courses in a related area, students will receive a certificate to commemorate their commitment and dedication to art and design. Certificates can be achieved in areas such as Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Illustration and more.

JOIN OUR WORK STUDY PROGRAMHigh school students may apply for our Work Study program and develop skills as a program assistant, in exchange for full tuition of one course.

PREPARE YOUR PORTFOLIOPortfolio Dos and Don’ts sessions are offered for those interested in assistance as they prepare their art school applications. Advanced and curious students may sign up for individualized portfolio reviews.

SIGN UP FOR SADI (SUMMER ART & DESIGN INSTITUTE)SADI is a fun and inspiring four-week summer residential program of visual art study, designed for young women in high school seeking to expand their creative skills and get a head start on college. Students who complete SADI will earn 3 undergraduate-level college credits.

Explore light and shadow, still-life drawing, clothed-life drawing, portraiture and landscape drawing in this comprehensive introduction. You will create a body of work that shows a new sense of understanding when it comes to articulating your thoughts on the page.

Learn the foundational techniques of painting in a light-filled studio as you explore color and composition to express your creative ideas.

Silkscreen printing is one of the most popular printmaking techniques and has been used for more than 100 years by artists such as Andy Warhol, Shepard Fairey and Mickalene Thomas. In this class, you’ll learn how to make your own prints on T-shirts, tote bags, paper, and clothing. This course is a perfect fit if you love designing your own logos, text and images.

Learn how to design characters for a variety of visual media, including film, animation, comics and games. Discover the process of character development and secrets for bringing a character to life. The course covers topics such as staging, silhouette, posture, structure, costume, color and shapes in order to create characters imbued with human traits.

Do you love decorating and designing the space around you? Interior design takes your passion for style and turns it into a viable and inspiring career. Learn the historic practice of darkroom photography and how to compose excellent photographs to share with family and friends. You’ll create intriguing images including portraits, landscapes and cityscapes. This course will cover analog camera and darkroom use, composition, exposure, basic lighting and camera care. Drawing the human figure is important training for all artists. By working with a clothed live model, you will develop an understanding of form through increased observation skills. In each class, students will explore the basics of cartooning, illustration and animation while taking part in exciting projects that foster basic drawing, technology, reading and writing skills.

Young artists in this class will learn the basic electrical circuit and use it to make squigglebots, as well as other contraptions that roll, move and vibrate. Students will enjoy exploring science and technology while developing their artistic skills and learning how to build and create.

Electrical Art: Textiles and PatternsSpring 2020: Saturdays, 9 am – 12 pm Course Code: YFA097 Tuition: $545

Young artists in this class will learn about the basics of electrical circuits and enjoy blending art with science, thanks to a range of creative projects that involve fabrics, textiles and patterns with various forms of technology.

Animation & Illustration: Scientific WorldsSpring 2020: Saturdays, 1–4 pm Course Code: YIL025 Tuition: $545

Young creatives in this class will explore the basics of animation and illustration, with a special focus on science behind the natural world. Inventive visual art projects will be inspired by the science of plant and animal life. Projects will draw inspiration from botanical illustrations and basic animal anatomy, pairing what students see in the real world with their imaginations.


CLASSESAll classes are studio based and held in Moore’s modern facilities and classrooms, utilized year-round by undergraduate students. Students should plan to arrive approximately 15–20 minutes before the start of class on the first day.

REGISTER EARLYClass size is limited. Courses fill quickly and we recommend that you register early to guarantee availability. Registrations are processed on first-come, first-served basis. Confirmation of registration is emailed one week after receipt of registration.

CLASS CHANGES AND CANCELLATIONS Moore College of Art & Design reserves the right to cancel courses, alter its curriculum, change instructors or modify tuition and fees for its programs. Portions of this publication are subject to change without notice. Courses that do not meet minimum enrollment will be cancelled. Notification of cancelation will be by phone and/or email. All tuition will be refunded within 2–4 weeks for any cancelled class.

TUITION REFUND & WITHDRAWAL POLICYWritten notification of withdrawals or course changes must be submitted to the Office of Continuing Education via email to [email protected] or fax 215.965.4047. Tuition refunds are not given if a student does not officially withdraw in writing from the course. Registration fees are not refundable. Tuition refunds are calculated according to the following schedule:

• 100% tuition refund minus $55 withdrawal fee, before the first day of class

• 80% tuition refund minus $55 withdrawal fee, before the second day of class

• 50% tuition refund minus $55 withdrawal fee, before the third day of class

• No refunds after the third class

Please allow 2–4 weeks for your tuition refund to be processed.

YAW FACULTY Moore’s award-winning BFA faculty, certified art educators and practicing artists and designers teach in Young Artists Workshop. They are all dedicated and enthusiastic professionals with expertise in studio art and design education.

FRIENDS & FAMILY DAY Parents, guardians and friends are invited on the last day of each session to visit classes, engage with student artwork, and meet YAW faculty and staff. A great opportunity to celebrate your young artist’s accomplishments!

ART SUPPLIES Art supplies are provided for students in courses for grades 3–8. Students in courses for grades 9–12 are required to purchase supplies and will receive a supply list during the first class. The cost of supplies for high school classes is approximately $25–$50.

CODE OF CONDUCT Students are expected to follow general behavior rules of being respectful of each other, the instructor and staff, as well as the College facility. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and Moore reserves the right to dismiss students from class. Students dismissed from the program do not receive refunds.

CAMPUS LOCATIONMoore’s vibrant Center City Philadelphia campus is located just off Logan Square and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, on Race Street between 19th and 20th Streets. Many of our Young Artists Workshop courses take advantage of Moore’s location by including off-site trips to cultural attractions.

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UPMoore is a safe, manageable campus. Students can be dropped off in front of the College’s main entrance on Race Street between 19th and 20th Streets, where they will be greeted by staff. When students are dismissed from class, they are instructed to wait in the College’s main lobby for pick-up.
